Anyways, there seems to be "bullying" coming from only one participant in this thread.  If telling other people that they should make sweet love to themselves (feat. expletives) is still considered bullying.

Which seems to be a rather silly overreaction to hearing opposing views in a thread he started to discuss a topic.

*shrug*

Sorry but you pissed me off.

Oh dear!  By all means then, you are free to treat me however you wish without judgment.

You said  I allowed the bullying to happen.  That is complete utter bs.   I didn't want to be bullied, I didn't choose to be bullied.   It just happened.  IT WASN'T MY FAULT!

I didn't say anything about you.

I did, however, say that the bullied were indeed faultless, and generally have the power to not care what bullies say to them, which is the only guaranteed way to not let bullying get to you.

p.s.  I don't think you can regard what I said as bullying.

What is it then, exactly, when you reply to civil conversation with "f*$S you!" as often as you do?  Perhaps it's not bullying... but it's not nice.

Hey I am just spitballing ideas here.

Er... maybe I'm campaigning for Vice Mayor of Crazy Town here, but I believe DrCrow is using a little thing called "hyperbole" to illustrate his point.  I could be wrong, but I think he is saying "here are the alternatives in stamping out bullying- either you completely infringe on all human rights, or you teach people to stop empowering bullies by caring what they have to say".

Perhaps this comparison is apt: You will never solve "the drug problem" by going after the dealers.  As long as there is a high* demand, the supply will find its way to them.  However, if you can dry up the demand (somehow), then it doesn't really matter how much supply there is.

Unless we move to a complete police state where every action is monitored and enforced.  But NO ONE is suggesting we do that.  Probably.

There are a lot of problems that must be solved by people that aren't in the wrong.  Saying that the solution to a problem is within the grasp of a particular party is not the same as saying they are to blame.

The problem is that wrongdoers often have no interest in fixing/preventing the problems they cause.  You can try to incentivize them to a point, but they're already breaking the rules (going against incentives that work for the rest of us) by being wrongdoers in the first place.

So, though they have done no wrong, the solution must come from the innocent, or there will come no solution at all.

As has been said, you can and should try to stop bullying.  However that will never stop bullying.  To really solve the problem, you must teach the bullied not to allow it to happen.

Stop the victim mentality.  It generally creates more problems than it solves.  Does it solve any, really?

Also- all of the focus on bullying over the past decade, I think, has emboldened bullies.  It's very strong feedback that their tactics are working.  It's like feeding a troll.

I'd never read (or even heard of) GOTG before the movie. But now I'm interested in going back and reading some. My local book store had put together a display stand of GOTG (and Starlord) books but I didn't know where to start.

Can anybody reccomend a collection/paperback/volume/story-arc/writer-tenure that is a good place to start? I'm more interested in books with the same-ish vibe as the movie (and with decent art obviously).

The real answer is ANNIHILIATION!

It's complicated, of course, but ANNIHILATION!

Infinity Gauntlet is required reading from back in the day.  And there's tons of older stuff too that you could get into...

Semi-recently, Keith Giffen's issues 7-12 of Thanos 2003 (http://www.comicvine.com/thanos/4050-20764/) started to kick things off, and they really got going in his Drax (http://www.comicvine.com/drax-the-destroyer/4050-18291/).

Which rolls right into ANNIHILATION! (http://www.comicvine.com/annihilation/4045-41287/)

It has been collected into 3 TPBs or HC, which include the aforementioned Drax story.  Its by Keith Giffen and some others- at some point Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning come on as a writing team- and they are fantastic.

Annihilation pretty much is directly followed by ANNIHILATION CONQUEST (http://www.comicvine.com/annihilation-conquest/4045-44982/)- which is where the Guardians are put together.  It's not too unlike the movie- they are all in Prison when they get together.

Annihilation Conquest is collected in two TPBs/HCs.

Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (2008) (http://www.comicvine.com/guardians-of-the-galaxy/4050-21550/) is a direct followon to Annihilation Conquest- and not actually a great jumping on point.  Its 25 glorious issues were written by DnA (Dan and Andy).  Then it was cancelled.  Then they announced a movie- then they relaunched it with Brian Michael Bendis- and I don't think it's been as good- though I have enjoyed it.

It bears stating that Nova (2007) (http://www.comicvine.com/nova/4050-18462/) (also by DnA) is the other regular comic that spun out of Annihilation.  Nova (Richard Rider) was a crap character that suddenly became awesome during Annihilation.  There's a good chance he'll be in GotG2.  His series ran 36 issues and is collected over several TPBs.

All that being said, nothing has the exact same humourish tone that the movie had.  They have, IMHO, a wonderful tone, but it's not quite as funny as the movie.  More adventuresome, but still lighthearted.  Like a certain space opera that many people on this site seem to enjoy.

*phew*

They are some of my most favourite comics and I can't recommend them highly enough.

My local Kmart is (finally) going out of business. The sales aren't insane yet...

The Kmart near my old Denver residence (and kitchen (wink)) has gone out of business 6 or 7 times in as many years.  Like a stupid, I get lured in each time by the promise of insane sales due to the shuttering of the doors.  Somehow K-Mart's prices at 40% off start to approach WalMart and Target's standard prices.  Why does this store still exist?!?!

During the going-out-of-business sales, I see people who apparently don't watch as much TPIR as I do stocking up on overpriced junk they don't need.  I don't mean to judge, but these people often look like they are the members* of our great society that can least afford to be paying higher than average prices for standard household goods...  Anyhow, K-Mart seems to make enough bread during these events to unshutter their doors for another several seaons, only to promise going-out-of-business-price-insanity a few months later.

Though I picked up a few movie/game related items at these sales too.

<Shadows of Mordor review snipped>

It does feel a lot like Assassin's Creed, but that's not a bad thing at all.

Sounds good!  Maybe once I get caught up on AC**, I will be picking this one up.  I really do love the AC series, but I often want it to expand its horizons a bit.  This new contender in the genre will hopefully shake things up and bring some new ideas to the melting pot.

*005, for example.

**It will never happen.  I'm about to start AC4, but with 2 new AC games this year and all of the other crap I've got going on...

Just got Spec Ops: The Line as well. Haven't played it yet. I look forward to checking it out.

I mentioned to xhonzi that I was interested in getting The Bureau: Xcom Declassified and he pointed me towards Humble Bundle where you can get it for as little as a dollar.

I opted to spend a few dollars more to also get Spec Ops as well as the first 2 Bioshocks and a few other things.
