Ignoring the first bit of this deleted scene (which is now perhaps one of the most awkward Star Wars moments... ever), the rest is actually pretty good.  Leia's attitude comes through loud and clear.

Is it just me or does Han come off very John Wayne in this?

Worst Edit Ideas
Time

ANH starts normally until the scene in Ben's hut where Luke asks about his dad. "He was the best starpilot in the galaxy, and a good friend..." Then have the shot of Ben sitting back stoking his beard and start some 80s flashback montage song and dissolve into the opening shot of Phantom Menace while having him do a voiceover setting up what it says in the Ep I crawl. Then just show the prequels edited with cheesy Ben and Luke dialog like Ben's telling a story Princess Bride style. It'd probably be funniest if Ben was sanitizing his story as he went for Luke's benefit, like glossing over the sandpeople incident and awkwardly sidestepping the last hour of ROTS, but the clips shown were still violent and spoilery. ("then your father had a civil sit-down chat with the tuskins and got them to agree to set your grandma free" *beheading clip*... "then your father had to rush up to the council chamber to see if the younglings were safe from Vader" *ignites lightsaber*) Make sure Luke is extra whiny all during the story. Make this thing like an 8 hour edit and have Obi-Wan tell his tale like he's half senile. After the prequels are over just wipe back to the hut and have R2 show his hologram and continue the movie.

Gotta say I'm loving your reconstructions. I've never gotten to see Star Wars in HD before and I'm loving it. I'm blown away by the attention to detail you've got going on with these. Replacing the detention level hallway matte was insane, but seeing as this is kinda an all or nothing thing, I love the fact that you're going into that much detail. I've skimmed through all the parts I can think of that would have major SE stuff in them to see if I can tell, but I'd say they're clean.

My only gripe about anything in these at all is the lightsabers in ANH, mainly Ben's during his fight with Vader. They look great of course, but that's kinda the problem. Your clip you posted goes a ways to fix this by blurring them out and messing with the colors, but I was wondering if you'd be willing to go even more nuts with it and make Ben's all jagged and flickery and cyan and Vader's almost orange like in the GOUT. I'm not sure exactly how it could be done, maybe paste in the separate sabers from the GOUT V3 over top of the frame or just do some after effects wizardry?

Anyway, thanks again for doing these at all. Absolutely loving the V1.0s!

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Just wanted to say that I finally got around to watching the DVDs for ANH and the first half of ESB. I honestly have never seen the OT look (and especially sound!) this good. (I grew up with hand-me-down pre-90s VHS tapes and pretty much wore them out over the years.)

I can't really offer much constructive criticism, not really having the eye for nitpicking artifacts and glitches while watching a movie. Basically, I don't see how these could look any better and I'm surprised they look as good as they do, remembering they came from ultra shitty laserdisk rips.

I really just wanted to thank dark_jedi and everyone else who works on projects like these.

Looking forward to finishing the trilogy tonight!

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)

I've been lurking for a while on this site after becoming slightly obsessed with Revisited and stumbled across this.

I gotta say, if this is even half as well done as the dozens of pages of comments I've read seem to indicate, then we can all chill with the Lucas hate and just watch these from now on knowing that in the end, we won. If someone would be kind enough to throw me a spare MySpleen invite I would be pleased as punch for the chance to finally have some proper Star Wars to watch.

On the off-chance that this hasn't been suggested 3,721 times already and shot down for some obvious reason I can't think of right now, would it be possible to get a torrent of this going somewhere a bit more bustling than myspleen? If it gets added to isohunt or even demonoid or something it would get aggregated onto btjunkie and there would be an easy to get at and mostly permanent download for this out there.
