George Lucas to host showing of Star Wars "1977" for AFI's 40th anniversary.
Time
It's a sad, sad day. Lucas once lamented the colorization of films he originally watched in black and white. Maybe he doesn't see the hypocrisy in allowing only the Special Editions to exist in a beautiful restoration since he, as the artist, changed them, but the effect on movie-goers is the same: the original versions which we came to love are not being preserved.

Allow me to quote the "South Park" episode "Free Hat":

Kyle: Give us the print. There's still some good in you Mr. Lucas, we know there is.
Lucas: It is too late for me, boys.
Kyle: You, yourself lead the campaign against the colorization of films; you understnad why films shouldn't be changed.
Lucas: Well, that's different...these are MY movies. I made them, and I have the right to do whatever I want with them!
Stan: You're wrong Mr. Lucas. They're not your movies, they're ours...all of ours. We paid to go see them, and they're just as much a part of our lives as they are yours.
Kyle: When an artist creates, whatever they create belongs to society.
Lucas: (solemly) Have I...become so old, I forgot what being an artist is all about?

Truly one of the best episodes ever!

"Making of Star Wars" (1977) taped from ABC??
Time
Yes, William Conrad did the original narration from 1977, when it first aired on TV. I have a manufactured copy of that, but not a taped copy of the original broadcast when it aired.

The 90's re-issue of that special was a VHS tape made available through a 'corn pops' mail-in offer. Famed movie trailer voice artist Don LaFontaine did the narration for that issue.

Again, all I'm looking for is the original broadcast recoridng of the original 1977 special. Still waiting...

"Making of Star Wars" (1977) taped from ABC??
Time
Hello.

I still have a manufactured VHS copy of "The Making of Star Wars" TV documentary (no commercials) from the 80's; I bought it off of ebay.

I am interested in knowing if there's someone on this message board who has the original TV broadcast of "The Making of Star Wars", when it first aired on ABC back in '77.

I saw the original TV broadcast, with all the original commercials (for Levis, Ford Trucks, etc.) at the Museum of Television & Radio out in California last March. Since I am unable to obtain a copy of that from their archives, I would like to know if there are ANY star wars fans out there on the internet that have this documentary taped from TV, with all the commercials in tact. I loved all those old campy commercials that went with it, and I'd love to see them all again.

I imagine most people probably taped it on a beta cassette back then. Well perhaps anyone here (if you have it) can make a copy of the '77 broadcast on a VHS or DVD for me? I am willing to pay if needed.

If nobody here can find what I'm looking for, perhaps some of you know who I can talk to that might actually have this?
