<strong>Star Wars: Visions</strong> (animated short films) - a general discussion thread - * <strong>SPOILERS</strong> *
Time

The Duel
Love the Kurosawa homage but it’s so visually dark that my eyes had trouble distinguishing what was happening. 7/10
Tatooine Rhapsody
Not a huge fan of the animation style. Generic rock ‘n’ roll in front of Jabba the Hutt was pretty jarring. Overall just kinda boring. 5/10
The Twins
Ridiculous, over-the-top nonsense that only Imaishi and Studio Trigger could deliver. Absolutely beautiful with great action but a little too crazy, even for me. 6/10
The Village Bride
The most forgettable of the bunch. A detached, alternative view of the Force is an interesting concept but it needs a lot more exposition for it to really work. 4/10
The Ninth Jedi
Excellent all around with a twist that I really didn’t see coming. 9/10
T0-B1
Astro Boy terraforms a desert planet into a lush paradise and slays Sith Inquisitors with the help of his droid friends. Tezuka would have loved this. 10/10
The Elder
Perfect Prequel-era story with a delightfully evil villain. 10/10
Lop and Ocho
Story doesn’t really work in this short format but everything else is superb. 8/10
Akakiri
Really disliked the animation style and the story felt more incomplete than the others. Some good still shots though. 5/10

Actually, I’ve been wondering that myself. I made a restoration comparison video of the entire movie, featuring all six home video masters. If anyone is interested in seeing it, please send me a PM. I also made comparison videos of Alice, Little Mermaid, and Lion King 😃

Send them all to me, please and thank you.

Doctor Who

I’ve been thinking lately that I should try to get caught up on Who (quit back in series eight); now seems like the perfect time.

Oh so no showrunner or Doctor is conducive to a good 60th? My point wasn’t that Chibnall and Whittaker would give us a good 60th, just that they’d give us any 60th at all. I hope they have showrunner and Doctor lined up for 2033, but even then it’ll be super weird having an anniversary special in their first year.

The 60th is two years away and, based on past changeovers, the BBC will have a new showrunner and lead signed (and maybe even announced) by the end of this year. I think the concern is more on who the showrunner and lead will be rather than not having one.

@MattMahdi - Thanks for that.

I fear Disney may have actually altered the movie in CAPS, making the change permanent. Although, Little Mermaid wasn’t entirely CAPS iirc, so maybe there is hope for it yet.

I thought the only CAPS shot in TLM is the final moments with the rainbow. The rest of the movie, I believe, was ATP just like all the other 80’s Disney films.

I thought you guys might enjoy my find: 2005 Platinum Edition still sealed. Almost had a heart attack when I pulled it off the shelf.

A '<strong>Rumour and News</strong>' thread for reported new Star Wars films and tv series

Disney is probably more interested in quietly sweeping the sequels under the rug rather than outright decanonizing them.

This is my interpretation of it. It’s obvious that Disney would never fully come out and say ANYTHING bad about the Sequels, even if TROS made less than Solo. That’s just plain common sense.

I have also heard these Doomcock rumors but not from him which is probably why I have different take on them. From what I gathered, it sounded less like “erasing the Sequel Trilogy” or even “resetting”; it sounded more like opening to all possibilities. It sounded to me to be a lot like a comic book-style multiverse or even like Lucas’ old approach to canon. So, in theory, they can have all the current Sequel Trilogy stuff on one side and the old EU stuff on the other side with possible new material picking up after the Fate of the Jedi series. That’s what it sounded like to me anyways and I could be wrong. It does seem like some people really think they’re going to just kick the Sequel Trilogy and be done with it. I seriously doubt that will ever happen, despite how much I want them to. It’s not like Disney can just wipe the slate and try again so I think people are naive if they think that’s what is going to happen.

B.) Bob Iger is no longer CEO!

Technically, Iger did take the position back “temporarily”.

Is there any news on the Kenobi movie/TV show/miniseries/Apple Watch exclusive video game? Having recently seen T2 Trainspotting, season 3 of Fargo, and Birds of Prey, I’m really down for some more Ewan McGregor.

Last I heard it was set to debut in 2022. From the way it sounds, they’re super focused on the scripts.

Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * <strong><em>SPOILER THREAD</em></strong> *

Kylo/Ben does not get beaten by Rey (I presume she’s the random person you refer to) in TROS. It’s quite obvious in their encounters that he’s on top of things. He refrains from striking Rey down because he believes she’ll join him, eventually. You might not like the plot or story or characters or whatever, but please avoid spreading false claims about this movie.

Clarification: He was beaten by her in both of the PREVIOUS movies when she had no training. Whether or not they are on equal footing in TROS is, in my eyes, irrelevant since he’s already been shown to be an incompetent and nonthreatening villain and Rey is shown that she can just do whatever the plot needs her to.

Well, Ben Solo is technically also a Skywalker so it depends on how you see it.

I agree with that assumption but look what they did with him; he’s a buffoon. He’s a completely incompetent and nonthreatening villain. He continuously gets beaten by a random person with no training. He then proceeds to yell and sulk about everything. He’s like Prince Zuko; only less interesting in every conceivable way. Then, in true Sequel fashion, they kill him because they don’t know what to do with him. You don’t kill off your characters for no reason or just because you can, that’s film making 101; just ask Kevin Smith.

So wait, is Star Wars really the Saga of Palpatine? %^%&& Disney in their #@4%^!!!

One hundred percent. This isn’t the Skywalker saga, it’s the Palpatine saga. He’s the only character to be continuously present in all eras of this story and is also the only one that actually succeeds in some of his efforts.

I saw the spoilers quite some time ago and I just laughed them off. There’s no way it could be as bad as all that, right? Right?! Man, was I wrong. I have two major issues with this film.

The Skywalker family is completely dead and gone and the Emperor’s granddaughter takes the Skywalker name.

Imagine only having seen ANH and then being told this was the ending. That sounds like the villains win in the end. It makes it sound like this whole franchise is a complete waste of time.

Kylo somehow transfers his life into Rey, accomplishing something that both Plageius and Sidious could not do throughout their entire lives.

This sounds extremely cheap, undeserved, and frankly lore-breaking.

Everything I’ve heard about this movie sounds completely horrible and completely craps over every single movie, character, plot point, and piece of lore that came before it. Everything that has happened before is completely meaningless. Both Anakin and Luke’s character arcs amounted to nothing in the end.

The Rise of Skywalker box office results: predictions and expectations
Time

I don’t consider myself a hater. I’m not at all happy that I feel this cynical about something I’ve loved for the majority of my life. I just can’t switch my feelings off and say “well, it’s more Star Wars”. I mean, come on, I’m more excited about Frozen 2 than I am the final installment in the Skywalker saga.

The numbers I put up are based on how I’ve seen people talking about TROS and by that, I mean pretty much no one. The only person I know who has said anything about seeing this is my dad and I doubt he’ll actually end up seeing it. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if I’m wrong about this but it’s just my perspective.

The idea that this last Star Wars movie won’t crack a billion worldwide seems pretty far-fetched to me.

I can understand that line of thought but the majority of the audience doesn’t care either way and the people who have been adamant about boycotting it have only become more emboldened as time has gone on and information has leaked out. I honestly don’t see a way that this movie doesn’t upset a large amount of fans one way or another. Only time will tell though.
