I’d agree that the 1997 SE is better. The only positives to the 2004 SE over 1997 is the updated Jabba in ANH and no scream Luke in TESB.
I haven’t liked the audio samples for the new mix.
You’re not alone in that viewpoint, to be honest I’m not sure why they aren’t just re-releasing the films theatrically with the restored 70mm mix, as it would be perfectly fine as is. I suppose they had to find something to “modernise” if not the video then the audio instead.
It seems to me quite an inconsistent approach however, that when we go to the cinema to see this newly restored version we will get a very authentic visual presentation, paired with a revisionist sound mix.
We can only hope that the original 70mm/stereo/mono tracks will be included on the discs. I know a lot of UHDs tend to feature a new remix and the original mix, but there are some discs that only have the new mix e.g. Batman (1989)
ok maybe not 360p but I don’t expect a 4K release. at least not native 4K without any up scaling.

There has been no upscaling. Bear in mind these are YouTube uploads with all the compression that entails. We aren’t looking at rips of 4K discs.
We’ve gotten some samples of the new 7.1 audio, which seem to be hybrids of the theatrical mixes with some further tweaks to resemble a more “modern” sound mix.
I don’t think it will have added footage. Its just the original theatrical version.

It’s a complete myth, there’s no evidence such a clause ever existed. Unfortunately however this myth has become commonly accepted online, and it gets stated as fact frequently.

Well, from what has been leaked, it seems like they are planning on restoring the original stereo (as far as I know that means they won’t tamper with it)? As well as the mono and 6 track, and finally this new 7.1 for theatres. Some people would probably prefer the new remaster, while others would prefer the true originals.
What matters most is giving people the choice (which Star Wars has not officially had for so long). Right now I’d say it’s looking hopeful 🙏
As long as we actually get all the other mixes on disc, the nightmare scenario would be only having the 7.1 mix when they clearly have access to the 70mm and mono mixes.

I always found the “some guy randomly saw the videos in his YouTube recommendations” story a little fishy.
Seems more likely to me this was leaked by someone working on the restoration.

There’s a fair few of us that have been monitoring the channel since TGWNN first discovered it. The channel has a tendency to upload, then deactivate, then reactivate when another upload is done. The original ALI YT channel was deactivated for quite a while and a new channel sprang up, but then that channel was also deactivated. It was replaced by another channel, which is still active today, and continues to upload.
We have seen countless notes about revisions to their auto upload script, we are on v10 now and it actually seems to be less secure than the earlier versions as there have been an insane amount of video and audio clips released these past few weeks.

Hello guys, I am new to this forum and recently have been doing a late of research on the original unaltered theatrical versions of Star Wars. I have also downloaded the Puggo Grande trilogy as an MP4 and I have watched it on my iMac’s QuickTime Player. I have enjoyed watching the trilogy however it kind of really upsets me how they’re only in a 480p video quality. I got the idea that I could use sowtware and programs such as iMovie, DaVinci Resolve Studios, etc. to upscale the videos to 4K or even 8K if possible and use the upscales as digital high quality raw print scans to create my own preservation. I own the 2019 digital Blu-Ray version of the trilogy and the 1997 Special Edition Fullscreen VHS tapes that are almost in mint condition. I also plan to by getting a copy of the 1995 VHS tapes boxset. I have been inspired by old post made by Puggo - Jar Jar’s Yoda, team_negative1, Harmy, Laserman, Zion, etc. I plan to make this fan preservation the same quality as, if possible better than, Harmy’s Despecialized Edition. This is a dream come true for me, however in order to do this it’s going to take a lot of money, I estimate $200,000 give or take. First I need to get 12TB iCloud+ since I’m going to be doing this on my iMac. Not to mention expensive of the shelf software. When I finishing the preservation (If I even do it, life is hard) I plan on buying a PC and transferring the preservation there and upscale it again. I plan on starting this project asap. However, I will need a lot of help and money to do this. If anybody has any helpful advice please let me know, thank you. Also if anybody has a new mint condition copy of the 1995 Star Wars VHS tapes boxset, please lot me know.

I own legal copies of the films, and would like to obtain access, for personal viewing if possible. Still finding my way around the forums. Only thing to note about that shotlist is that it incorrectly claims that a lot of ESB SE audio changes were in the 70mm mix. There wasn’t a proper copy of that mix when the list was created so incorrect assumptions were made, the 70mm Print A over on the TSWT forums is the best source to use for tracking audio differences in the 70mm mix.
Are there any plans to somehow allow a lossless theatrical audio track be able to be muxed in? Those stupid extra frames 😉
There is a lossless 5.1 audio track included in the download separately to mux in yourself.

I wouldn’t expect a release in quite a while if I’m being honest, the donors to this project never received a full grindhouse and presumably are not being consulted in spite of the money that they gave to fund this project.
If you’re looking for a 35mm preservation of AOTC you can view, 4K02 just came out on the TSWT forums, and is no longer in its grindhouse state and has been cleaned up.
