❗ #ReleaseTheOriginalTrilogy | OriginalTrilogy.com’s enduring goal | How you can help ❗
Time

Advertising costs money. And the hashtag is #ReleaseTheOriginalTrilogy. It’s in the title of this thread. It’s been in use for years. I sell merch with the text on it.

You’re not inventing anything new or trying something the rest of us haven’t. Literally half of this thread is Jason describing what people should do.

You can use whatever hashtag you want, but don’t harass people with it, and don’t think it’ll make a difference. I had a popular Twitter account and wrote a 20 page article for Wired.com establishing the #ReleaseTheOriginalTrilogy hashtag and very few people but me EVER used it.

Hashtags aren’t the answer. It’s convincing a company to go against the wishes of its founder, which no tweet is going to fix. Most people who work for the company agree with us, but it doesn’t change the fact that ultimately they don’t want to go against Lucas.

I just don’t want you or anyone else to re-invent the wheel and think we’ll end up somewhere different.

My feeling after years of study is that Lucas doesn’t want to be reminded of work he wasn’t happy with at the time and only reminds him of what he lost. Every movie he swore it was the last and that he and Marcia could settle down after, but by the time RotJ was done, she was gone.

Doesn’t change the fact that it’s film history and should be preserved, but I get his hesitation now.

It’s not spite, it’s regret.

Can you clear something up for me did they remove all the garbage mattes in the 2020 UHD or not, and the matte lines. Because Lucas claimed in the 1997 restoration they did.

They recomposited a handful of shots for 97SE, another handful for 04SE, but mostly the garbage mattes were visible due to early home video being too bright. So mostly they’re just not visible because we’re finally being presented the movies at the right brightness.

A long overdue update…

Things are progressing really well with ANH:RHD. There’s only about 40 shots left to do. It may sound like a lot of shots but it’s not. Most of the film is complete. The remaining shots are mainly the CG work for the Yavin battle with a few shots here and there in other places. It’s looking very likely that it’s going to be a 2024 release now, hopefully mid year. The one thing that could hold things up is shooting the replacement Sandtroopers. I was hoping to get the shots i need filmed this year but we have had such a shite summer it became impossible. So that’s going to have to wait until next year when hopefully we’ll have some sunny days.

[snip]

There’s no way i can do any serious work on the video side of things for ROTJ:R until ANH:RHD is complete and released because ANH has almost filled up all of the new internal drives and most of the external ones i purchased because they are the backups. One 8tb external developed a fault that couldn’t be fixed but luckily i was able to replace that and recover all but one of the files that were on it. So once ANH is done and dusted i can start to empty the internal drives to continue work on ROTJ:R. So, at the moment, i have just enough space to complete ANH:R and render out the master file. Then it’s on to the audio mix.

But i will be starting to build the models etc for ROTJ:R early next year so i’ll keep you updated about those.

So ‘hopefully mid year’ is where we’re getting summer from…

Sure, I suppose. But those of us who have been around for a while know that it’s done when it’s done.

There’s one little background change that was made to TESB when it hit 4K that the Revisited version doesn’t have. On the 2011 Blu-Ray, in the three close-up shots where Luke’s X-Wing is sinking in the water, there’s a black section that’s cast over the top right corner. The 4K version fixed that by replacing the black section with more haze. You can see the differences here: https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=137645

Is this change even worth applying to TESB:R when you get to working on the Blu-Ray?

To be clear, that’s not so much a “fix” as “the 4K version didn’t ruin the scan of the film in that particular way”.

So, it’s not really worth it?

I’m just saying it’s not a “fix”, it’s a choice of what scan he wants to use.

The easter eggs are hilarious!
It’s too bad I wasn’t able to proofread the dutch subtitles though, I’ve only seen the first 16 minutes but I’ve already caught a few errors and sentences that no good sound.
Count me in for help with the subs for empire 😉

The easter eggs are in the dvd9 or the dvd5 disc??? And how can i watch them?

I’m not sure what the context of “Easter eggs” was in a post from 15 years ago.

Since v3.1 is inevitable, I’ll point out that the opening shot is from the SE. In 4K83, the TIE fighters are much bluer than the Star Destroyer. This change is not in the Viscomp. I believe this a power window fix and not due to the overall color grade. The fighters are blue in other shots in the same sequence where DEED uses 4K83. (FWIW, the GOUT also has blue fighters on a grey Destroyer.

Yeah, power window changes would be the death of me.
