It seems the OT Discord is quite lively for The Cantina type of discussions.

A number of other forums have had the same issue; less posting in certain forum sections, but more posting on their Discord instead.

Discord is usually better suited for quick casual conversations, with forums being better for archiving longer form/ longer term conversations. With most people moving away from the latter and into the former, I can’t say I’m too surprised

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

Not a big vent, but damn aquariums are hard.

Got some floating plants; forgot they’d be tossed about by filter outtake. Make ring to keep plants out of outtake, ring gets tossed about by outtake. Don’t even get me started on needing to get a reverse-Osmosis kit so I don’t have to deal with excessive hardness.

(also getting my ammonia up so the tank can cycle is harder than expected)

Most Disappointing / Satisfying Aspect of the Sequel Trilogy?

The best part was seeing Luke again as a “Jedi”, and seeing the main protagonist being a girl (albeit an awfully written character).

And it is a shame she wasn’t well written. I liked the way Daisy Ridley portrayed Rey, and in a vacuum I’d argue she’s a good character. But everything about her is so underutilized, that at least in TLJ it felt more like she was there to be an earpiece for Luke and Kylo to vent about their problems than the central protagonist of the trilogy.

Nevermind that the films felt so disjointed that it wasn’t clear if she even had a character arc to go through.

Had never heard (or even heard of) Twiki’s early season 2 voice until tonight.
I think it just ruined my life.
& I’m not even a big Buck Rodgers fan.

How bad is it?

It’s a super-sweet, super-cartoony little boy voice.
I tried to find an example, but surprisingly nothings coming up.
Apparently the legendary voice actor Mel Blanc was replaced by a Bob Elyea. Fans hated it and they quickly changed it back mid-season.

OK I can see that feeling out of place for Twiki (even if I barely know anything about the series.)

Tea
Time

GF sent me a variety pack of teas, and I’ve been having fun with them (though she still wants to hook me up with a proper Pu’erh cake)

  • Kirkland Green Tea
  • Dynasty Chinese Restaurant Tea (oolong Jasmine Green Tea mix)
  • Asian Taste Chrysantemum and Pu-er Tea
  • Red Rose Original Black Tea
  • Numi Emperor’s Pu-erh
  • a ball of loose leaf blooming white tea (Saving that for a special occasion)

Nothing particularly special, but it was a nice pack and I’ve been enjoying them.

Worst Ideas in Star Wars/Good Ideas that went Horribly Wrong

Pop Culture Detective’s video The Case Against The Jedi Order highlights the problems you mention, but also comes to the conclusion that it was a mistake on Lucas’ part to portray them this way. But like I said, I believe portraying them this way was the point. Maybe the Jedi weren’t always this way, but after countless wars against Sith and fallen Jedi, the Order eventually became more dogmatic in an attempt to avoid that cycle.

At least for me, while that’s definitely the way it feels it should be taken, how it was received by the audience seems off. While I can look at it and go, “Yeah, if the Jedi have lost their way, it makes sense,” a lot of the fans I’ve interacted with, (and significant chunks of Legends Continuity) seem to have taken it as not just, “The way Jedi are,” but inherently part of the Light Side of the Force.

I’m of the belief that the films missed the mark on what they wanted Jedi to be, but that I can at least see what it was aiming for.

OK, but… why Maclunkey? Of all the changes they could have made, why that one in particular? Who was the executive that thought: “This scene is iconic, but you know what it’s missing? Greedo saying a gibberish word right before he shoots. Yeah, it’ll be like how in a Western they say Draw right before they shoot, but made more Star Warsy.”

If you believe Pablo Hidalgo, that executive was George Lucas back in 2012.

That makes sense. It’s a helluva tone deaf change, but that’s entirely within Lucas’s wheelhouse to have done.
