I’m working on my own subtitles for these and I’d be glad to share them when I finish!

It is so crazy how much better every scene feels in this cut.

The lack of the theatrical release’s very overbearing at times music lets each scene breath and brings out acting nuances I’ve never noticed before. Not to mention the very subtle moment to moment editing changes you’ve made. So many lines are removed, or muted, or moved around. This edit is such a triumph of recontextualization. Instead of feeling like Cassian is stuck in a Star Wars movie, it feels like he’s finally where he belongs.

This is how I’ll revisit/ show people Rogue One from now on.

I feel like it’s an important thread that will be picked up a bunch later, though. The New Republic citizens, especially those living in the core worlds, didn’t even notice the regime change after Jakku. I feel like the government not taking action against the Imperial remnants is gonna be expanded in the upcoming ‘Mando-verse’ TV shows and it helps segue into the sequels, regardless of how you feel about those movies.

The stuff Carson and the Adelphi rangers are doing, standing up against government inaction, seems like a very ‘Lucas-y’ thread that I actually think is neat.

Yup! It’s commentary on United States politics. There’s clear parallels here to Operation Paperclip. Ever since the new canon started Leia formed her Resistance because the New Republic just wouldn’t properly condemn/go against the growing Imperial remnants. This is like when Lucas compared the Empire to the United States – even though they had gone against the biggest empire in the world and won, they are now too unfortunately similar to them. Of course the New Republic is better than the Empire but the upper class in Coruscant and the working class in the Outer Rim haven’t been made to notice. Nothing substantial has changed about their lives. The status quo is too strong. The New Republic hasn’t done enough to rid the galaxy of the Empire. Things aren’t improving enough.

It’s one of the great things from the books set in this era that I am so glad to see be properly adapted into the shows.

I really liked this episode lol. I can’t wait to see where all the plotlines go! I really loved the exploration of the incompetence of the New Republic because it helps establish the sequel era in this real world political scenario. Love Dr. Pershing’s whole story and especially the scene where the rich Coruscanti people talk about how they can hardly tell the difference between the Empire and the New Republic. Very great stuff!

This season definitely isn’t the casual planet of the week stuff it was in season 1 and that’s a little disappointing - but if they’ve decided to fully commit to this being ‘the big story’ of this era I’m all for it. I also can’t wait to see where Bo-Katan’s character goes! I think she’s the character I’m most interested in right now.

Like i know the in-universe reason is “half the senate hates Leia and could never trust her or her organization because she is the daughter of Vader” but is there any way to indicate that the senate is in a standstill of supporting/trusting the resistance or not?

I feel like ‘The weapon located in the Ilum system’ might be too much of a mouthful – could “the weapon in the Ilum system” work? Other than that fantastic work this is so crazy exciting!

Here is a folder containing the video with only the dialogue, an incomplete stereo sfx track, and the stereo score track. Place all three into your video editor and you can mess with the levels to your desire. My video editing software can only output stereo audio so I’m sorry if more work is created than necessary on your end.

Remembered this thread and decided to have a go at adding fitting score to the scene (taken mostly from Episode II).

The sound effects are unfinished, the biggest thing I need to do (other than stabilizing some of the handheld shots) is extend the final shot so that a wipe can work. I’m mostly happy with how the music sounds, but some of the transitions could use some tweaking I think. Plus Anakin’s theme at the beginning could be replaced with more ‘scene transition-y’ music.

My one comment is that it seems unclear initially that Leia is on the same planet as Obi-Wan, so when he starts asking about her it feels a little strange. Other than that, wow - I am so excited to see where this goes! If you ever need visual effects done, feel free to reach out!

fantastic! I loved your work on ROTS and am excited to see this as well. I really like how Reva’s story parallels Anakin’s and how she makes the choice to be better and it would be a damn shame to lose the more interesting of the emotional climaxes of the series.

Howdy! I’ve been watching the new workprint and I noticed that after the scene of Zorri and Poe on the rooftop Rey talks to Finn about having seen Ochi’s ship the day her parents left. Just wanted to let you know ^_^

A few weeks ago I edited something together but never posted it. Here’s my take on the final act. I would make a few changes to this but I think this gets an idea of how the climax could feel. This was heavily based on one of RogueLeader’s posts.

Notes: Some of the audio transitions are very rough and I’m not happy with the transitions after the Gungan retreat and after the Queen is brought to Nute.
