Nice that they are planning ahead, if that's the case.

Lucas did shoot the end of ROTS while filming in Tunisia for AOTC. He chucked that footage, and shot the actors again on ROTS with bluescreen though.

George wanted to have all the Dagobah scenes for ROTJ shot during production on ESB, (to avoid having to rebuild the massive set again) but they just ran out of time.

Here's the latest report.  It makes sense they would return to that location in Episode VIII if TFA ends there with Rey and Luke.

Ugh.

And Luke is apparently the "last Jedi" 30+ years after RotJ.

Exactly what have our heroes been doing since defeating the Emperor and Vader anyway?

Luke must have been sitting out sulking somewhere by his lonesome all this time. The Rebels still can't manage to stamp out the Empire.

There better be some good explanations for all this, but I suspect I won't see them.

I imagine most of the backstory of what happened within the past 30 years will be in the opening crawl.  We may hear bits and pieces throughout the film.

Wasn't there also a rumor Harrison was signed for the next film though?

I remembering reading that around the same time when they said Ford was going to have a rather large role in the film.

I also believe Daisy hinted on returning for the following films, but didn't directly say so.  I doubt Disney/Lucasfilm would have a new set of heroes in the following films... they made add some, though.

What, the old story about somebody having Found Luke's lightsaber in the depths of Cloud City?

No, the idea that there would be some sort of flashback sequence in TFA, which has been around for quite a while.

People were speculating it would involve a scene with an OT Leia since Fisher's daughter will appear in the film.  However, I'm guessing it'll be a bit part.

I would say the original ending would be more appropriate in this case since it didn't imply a celebration across the entire galaxy as we know it, unlike the SE ending (especially when Jar Jar shouts "Wesa free!").  As mentioned, the death of Vader, the Emperor and the destruction of the DSII doesn't mean the war was won.  The destruction of the DS didn't stop the Empire, it just pissed them off and they came back badder than ever and defeated the Rebellion.  I see the original ROTJ ending like the SW ending, the Rebels won the battle, but the war wasn't over as evidenced by ESB.  They had a small celebration for their achievements, but then it was back to business.

Back on topic, was it already confirmed that the two protagonists are related to the Skywalkers? I'd like totally new main characters.

Without last names given to some of them, it's just assumed they are related (unless I've missed a leak or announcement).

I'd like unrelated characters as well.  However, considering we're just coming out of 15 years of indiscriminate story shrinking, a single familial relation is at least a step in the right direction.

Kylo Ren is apparently related to someone, too.  There was a rumor last year (?) that he is the son of Han and Leia.

Drew Struzan? No thanks.

BTW, it's just a convention poster, not the main movie poster, in case that wasn't clear.

And as per usual, there's already a change from Drew's original painting to the final printed artwork:

Looks like a Photoshop change to me, rather than an actual repainting by Struzan.

Did Disney make this change or was it done by a fan?
