It’s fairly easy to find that font online to download. As for the -30 tracking it depends on the software you’re using on if you can do that or not.

I had the same thoughts as Ash. However according to Bobson Dugnutt’s preservation page the font used for the theatrical subs are “ITC Franklin Gothic Demi Bold, 69 point with -30 tracking”
I’d give that a shot as this came from starwars.com when they were in production for TPM.

Rendering an opening preview of my single pass color grade of ROTS. I based it roughly on those 35mm trailers posted above but brighter and a little bit more fitting with the looks of TFA and TLJ.
I’ll post a copy on youtube and provide a higher quality download in x265 4k.

I didn’t realize it would take that long for the scans. I wonder if maybe we could fund for him to just scan the changed portions of the film and the scenes with subtitles.
As for adding grain I say go for it! I’ve seen someone just add grain to the Blu Ray and it brought out a better picture and more detail on top of just looking like a proper film!

Ah gotcha. Don’t get me wrong I love this movie…it has a weird charm for sure. But I think they set the release date and rushed to get it done and that’s why there’s lots of sloppy mistakes…at least that’s what it seemed like in the behind the scenes doc as shown in this pic.
Amazing progress! I imagine those shots will blend in nicely with the rest of the movie. Did you end up doing something similar with the bridge shot/Senate scene? IIRC the changed area was a bit fuzzy so maybe that would make it blend in seamlessly. Also thanks for doing this, I know not many people would care to restore this film but I’m just glad that someone is
Glad to hear progress has been made! As for subtitles they looked pretty good on the previous version but if you’re worried about character spacing for longer lines I’d suggest looking for a kerning option when you add the text

I’d be interested in seeing a comparison between Chewie’s Naboo bridge removal compared to yours, you can see that the area where the bridge was is softer on his screenshot. Just judging from your senate scene, you can make the image slightly clearer and have harder edges so I think it would blend in perfectly then.

So I noticed that it’s been a while since an update for this project. Is this still going to go underway after SW 97 or is it being pushed back for that new ESB print?
I made 1-3 disc art that matches the V1 artwork if anyone was wanting it as bad as me!
I’m glad more people seem to be interested in preserving the theatrical versions of the Prequels! How easy would it be to take the HDTV (dvd) version of AOTC and fix the audio changes so it’s the digital theatrical version?
And someone on the spleen restored the theatrical version of ROTS using the HDTV version and just putting the wipe back in so there’s definitely ways to get the original versions of the Prequels recreated.
