Sounds great! Were you able to make use of the 35mm strip I got to you?
This is the 4k scan from the studio themselfs. MGM. This is not a scan from the project.
Oh my bad! It looks like MGM learned their lesson after that awful blu ray transfer.
007 Goldeneye 4k Movie Preview (Opening Scene)
Wow the film really cleaned up nicely compared to the unrestored scan! I’m very excited to see the finished product 😃
Also all you previewers were terrible. All but one of you missed a really big grading error.
Glad you appreciated people taking the time to help…
Jedit: Also I hope you realize that not everyone is gonna catch something just be happy it got caught at all.
Any update on this?
I asked in the group pm a few weeks back and no response. I’m assuming Chewie is either tweaking some things or is busy
Absolutely love it. It’s baffling to me why the director/editor wouldn’t want it this way in the first place.
This is just my take on the direction of this movie, but I think they try to make it look dull and desaturated because its during the reign of the Empire. But I could be wrong 😃
Just checked it out. Absolutely wonderful job, the color balance you chose perfectly fits the tone of the movie! Can’t wait until the full thing is done!
Is it almost $2k useful, though?
My thoughts exactly. I feel like it’d be useful but at the same time that’s a heavy investment for some missing frames.
It’s treason, then.
…Revenge of the Sith anyone?
Would be great to have that released on bluray one day. Although i doubt it will due to it being a failed project.
I wish I would’ve seen it in 3D when it was rereleased. I heard at least episode II and maybe III were all ready to go for their 3D release too.
Hi, yes, is possible doing a copy.
If you end up making a copy put me on the list!
This helps a lot! Thanks!
I just did a trilogy cover and disc labels for 4K77, 4K80, and 4K83 using only artwork from the 2006 official DVD release that I scanned. I’m open to critiques!
I just burned 4K77 and 4K83 to blu ray and wanted to add the GOUT artwork to it but I’m having trouble finding the correct images on google. ROTJ was easy to find but I cannot find the art used on the discs for ANH and ESB.
Jedit: disregard this post I just ended up scanning the discs and using photoshop to remove the logos
Just curious, are the 16mm scans going to be released?
Is there any way to get the full workprint from anywhere? I’d love to be able to get it and put it on the Spleen there’s no reason for the workprint to be so rare!
Oh wow those are some great results there!
Let me know which reel that would be on (Reels are approx 20 minutes long) as I am not familiar with the movie itself at all.
Here’s the timecodes for the changes that would be needed to be scanned if you chose to do so:
01:19:14 frame 6 - shot of Qui-Gon’s “much more complicated” line and wipe transition to a shot of Palpatine’s quarters
01:25:40 frame 17 - Orn Free Ta’s human aides
01:33:26 frame 11 - hyperspace jump and the wipe to the Theed palace
It all could be on reel 4 and 5 or just 5. Hope this helped and hope that you’re feeling better!
I really don’t think it’s worth worrying about doing that footage, not simply for a reconstruction of the theatrical version, better that we get another print and start fresh.
I actually think they would be valuable because the footage from the 35mm can be combined with the existing SD footage to make it blend in way better with the HD footage in a reconstruction.
Jedit: Maybe ZigZig could help clarify if it’ll be useful or not since he’d be the one doing the merging
Looks good as far as I can tell.
Yeah I think it looks near perfect. Even looking at the spacing of the letters it looks dead on!
Here’s an example of the font I found compared to the Z bootleg (provided by Bobson). It seems to be in the right font family if it’s not the correct one, but IMHO it seems to be close enough for the time being.
There doesn’t seem to be a bold version, but it’s possible to manually do it via Photoshop or Illustrator. I can give it a decent shot if you want.
That would be great if that font variation actually existed anywhere.
It’s fairly easy to find that font online to download. As for the -30 tracking it depends on the software you’re using on if you can do that or not.
That is a shame. You wouldnt think film restoration would be so hazardous to ones health.
No chance you got anything with subtitles?
I had the same thoughts as Ash. However according to Bobson Dugnutt’s preservation page the font used for the theatrical subs are “ITC Franklin Gothic Demi Bold, 69 point with -30 tracking”
I’d give that a shot as this came from starwars.com when they were in production for TPM.
