HELP! Synchronizing dub audio track taken from VHS with MKV (ESB 97 SE)
Time

Thats weird…So how did you resolve it? (Or didn’t?)

I really don’t want to go scene by scene. I’m trying to find a software which would be able to sync them automatically, meaning strech and shrink parts of an audio track based on peaks in waveform of another audio track. Cubase and Nuendo allegedly can do that, but some ppl say there are too noticable distortions in the end result…

Anyone has a suggestion or experience with this?

HELP! Synchronizing dub audio track taken from VHS with MKV (ESB 97 SE)
Time

Can someone please help me with this? I’m at my wits’ end…

I’m trying to synch my native language (czech) dub audio of The Empire Strikes Back SE 1997 taken from VHS with Adywan’s 1080p reconstruction (not “Revisited”). But I’m keep failing.

My initial thoughts were: VHS (PAL) are 25 fps and Adywan’s file is 23.976 fps. So I just slowed down the czech track in audacity (change tempo) by -4.096% and though that will do the trick…but it didn’t.

I then tried to measure two same spots in both tracks so that the start and end align. I managed to align start and end of both tracks, but there were misalignments in the middle…

It is kinda hard to believe that there would any differences in each scene on vhs version and the one by Adywan, but that’s how it looks to me now…and yes, I was checking alignment of sounds with clear hits like laser blasts (definitely not something like vader’s dub).
VHS is 2000 Original Trilogy Special Edition box.

Here is a link for both audio files (both thinned down mp3 100mb each) if someone would be so kind and take a look
(btw, there is a short intro in the czech dub version which should be cut)

Any advice at this point would be helpful to me.
Thanks.

ROTJ Luke with lightsaber promo shots?
Time

I thought this would be pretty easy google search, but it turned out that it is not…

I’m trying to find hi-res photo of Luke holding his lightsabre from ROTJ , at least from waist up and preferably on dark background: throne room would be perfect, endor could do, but sail barge rather not - light background. Or even studio shot would be ok.

Can anyone share something?

Thanks for help.

Finally got my hands on 1997 ESB in HD. Thanks to trillary dump for the movie reconstruction!

So that I’ve made my cover based on 1997 VHS. Gold and Silver version…

That cover looks amazing dude! You planning on making them for ANH and ROTJ?

Hey! Thanks…Not sure. I certainly have no interest in SE of the other episodes, but I always loved the look of the 1997 VHSs. Cool&classic designs with great Struzan. So, maybe I will some day.

What’s funny to me is people complained that TFA played it too safe, now this did the opposite of that and people are still complaining.

you can say that pretty much on everything when saying just “people” is enough for you. you may be surprised but people as a group tend to have contradictionary opinions.

Unless TLJ & Ep. IX prove so stellar that they make up for its flaws and elevate it above itself, I’ll likely never watch TFA again. Still, my desire to rewatch TFA is greater than my desire to read the same warmed-over anti-TFA diatribe over-and-over again.

A friendly bit of advice: If your argument includes mentions of “fan service” and “Mary Sue”, it’s safe to say it’s all been said before, hence you can spare yourself the effort of saying it again.

friendly advice: you should get used to it, because you will hear it a lot, because besides “fan service” there is really nothing significant to say about this movie. seriously, poster for tfa should be in encyclopedias right next to the term “fan service”, because you really cant find better example

Also…

Some people: WHY ARE ALL THE STAR WARS CHARACTERS IN A STAR WARS MOVIE?!?!?!!???
Other people; WHY WAS LUKE BARELY IN THE MOVIE!?!!???!!?
Me: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

you somehow didnt get my point - that people seem to have pink glasses filled with nostalgia tears

so you liked the movie because of the characters? like marey sue? or hux’s cringy speech to apathetic stormtroopers. and can you tell me which part of snoke’s character did you like the most? and i dont blame you that you dont like maz kanata. i barely remember her too…did you also like the map to luke skywalker? why do you need a map for a space that is filled with 99,99% of vacuum anyway? with dotted line from one side of the galaxy to the other? what about just coordinates? or that it allegedly didnt match any known charted system while it was segment as big as third of the galaxy…does even anything make sense in this movie?

i love the apologetic phrase that they “played safe”. they didnt play safe, they played plain stupid. how could they have thought that there is even someone who doesnt know the original trilogy so that he has to be introduced to the stuff everybody know? you have star wars references everywhere. and even if there is some hermit who doesnt know star wars, he wouldnt care about new stuff if he doesnt know the old one. if it was solid good, everyone would accept it…but first and foremost there are milions of fans who will not forgive you that you are showing them rebels running from the empire, death star blowing up another planet, trench run, droid with very important plans etc. all over again. i just cant comprehend that there are even people who defend this stupidity as “playing safe”

and i am really really sad that with all those spin-offs and animated series on the way i will most probably see rebels and empire beating their heads up to episode 9 all over again…
