Not that it is the same caliber, but would you consider AI being used on The Beatles’ “Now & Then” to isolate and clean the noise on Lennon’s vocals a preservation or an edit? It’s a bit of a gray area. It is not creating, only cleaning and adjusting levels and removing static and background noise.

I think it’s unwise to think about the disputes over copyright, historic preservation, artistic integrity in good vs evil terms. Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

Has anyone tried filming people in clone armor to try and replace some of the CG troopers?

That first one has done a really good job recreating the movement, but has a lot of issues with harsh lighting, sharp edges.

The second one is just awful. He’s made the OT look worse in order to help it be less jarring with his renders.

Maybe, but “discovering” this “lie” will not actually cause that footage to be released in any form so 🤷‍♂️ there’s no point in getting excited about it. Far, far more likely that there was a shot that was usable without much effects work (removing tracking dots without doing the full CG perhaps) for the trailer.

To follow up on my own post… Andor Spoilers Within:

I was struck by, at the end of season 2, everyone’s got their home on Yavin, and how important this is for their emotional journeys (thinking here of Vel, Kleya, Mon). In just a few days, they are going to almost have their home destroyed by the Death Star, followed by evacuating it completely. They then won’t have a large permanent base for years, as Echo Base takes a long time to build-out. They do not get to inhabit for very long (Wookieepedia says 1 month but this could be stretched and retconned pretty easily as there were Rebels there for 2 years during construction), and afterwards, as far as I know at least, they do not get a permanent base ever again. That homelessness seems like thematic fertile ground to me.

I’ve seen comments like “Kleya & Vel spin-off when?” and “We need an Andor for this [photo of DS II]” and on the one hand I do think there’s fertile ground with the first one as far as characters go, and obviously with the second one as far as plot-device goes (and yes, Bothans, I know), but of course the actual answer is that they should make neither until they know what the big theme of any show would be. You can’t just retread “The personal sacrifices necessary to fight fascism” over and over, even if it is a good theme.

I was disappointed there wasn’t more Saw in the last two arcs, maybe something with his group doing something so bad as to explain why the Alliance pushes them away. On the other hand, I underestimated how much the Alliance pushing him away can mostly be in his head.

Having him saying “You have no idea where I am!” when they know and we know that he’s definitely on Jedha was perfect.

Bail’s remaining on Coruscant was necessary simply by way of the fact that we already knew both he and his daughter are active members of the Senate right up to its dissolution. When he was saying that his place was there, he just had to stay, I think part of his reasoning was that he can’t risk his family being scrutinized or taken into custody; he knows he has one of the two people most likely of being someday capable of taking out the Emperor and Vader.

I did not see Partagaz’s suicide coming, but Anton Lesser really sold it. Incredible performance. I had always thought he was fond of Lonni; I was so so so so glad they brought back Nemik’s manifesto. Of all the monologues in this show, it’s the one that sticks with me.
Partagaz was such a likeable guy, it was maybe a little too good to have him turn, though this was obviously the saddest way to do that. I think there’s still a lot to process there.

I could not be more pleased with how things turned out for Heert and Meero, and Perrin for that matter.

Don’t forget that, in addition to the excision of the B-Wings, a lot was cut from the battle as originally planned. Not to self-promote, but see The Space Battle and The Rebel Attack for a taste of what was planned.

I definitely didn’t expect Luthen to be cut out of the chain of command, but it makes sense. He wants to stay on Coruscant, doing his thing. I find it very hard to predict what’s left to do in this show, other than his death. It was nice that they wrote Bix out of Cassian’s life without killing her too.

So I guess what’s left is

• Luthen’s death. Maybe Kleya’s too, but not necessarily.
• Dedra’s death? Some other resolution? Probably death. I expect these last two events to be tied together
• Dedra learning what the kalkite is really for
• Cassian & K2-SO4 working together seems like a good idea, just for showing their friendship more
• More Melshi
• The Rebellion getting wind of the Death Star, or at least Bodhi’s defection
• Writing Vel out somehow to explain why she’s not part of the crew that join Cassian & Jyn
• Cassian’s personal journey as a single guy or however he views himself post-Bix
• A resolution to Wilmon & Dreena, and Wilmon’s relationship w/ Saw
• The breakdown of whatever relations there are between Saw and the Alliance

Just want to point out that Vel is Mon’s cousin, not her sister.

I think Luthen will die in episodes 7-9. When Mon makes her post-massacre speech and goes into exile, she’s filling his shoes as the head of the Rebellion, but without the secret identity. This helps resolve the chain of command problems: It’s a lot easier to have a chain of command if everyone knows who is at the top. Also, I can’t imagine Luthen agreeing to her making the speech and going into exile.

I watched s2e1 today. Worth watching, like season 1. Very fun to watch them try to not exactly say TPM had problems while still saying it. It’s a real shame they went with all-CG for Jar Jar, but honestly that wasn’t the main problem; the problem was that no matter talented Ahmed Best is (and I believe he is), the jokes and direction were coming from George Lucas. Also very fun to see them try to tell you “We all hate Rick McCallum” without exactly saying it.

Afterward, I watched the pod race. What a great sequence, if a little long in its home video extended edition form. I still have no idea why Aurra Sing exists, but I guess that’s for a different thread somewhere.

Oh and it is just always great to hear from Doug Chiang. I remember fondly pouring over his work in the “Art Of” books, much like he loved Joe Johnston’s work in the OT art books. The difference of course being that I did not then become an artist myself and work on the Sequels. But anyway, enjoyed s2e1.

A major source is the time they showed the original scene on Entertainment Tonight in 1997 during the run-up to the release of the Special Edition. That’s why the shows credits impinge on the scene.

So, when the Empire investigates what happened on Mina-Rau…

• Are they going to be able to recognize Brasso as being involved in the Ferrix funeral riot?

• Are they going to recognize B2EMO as the droid that projected the speech on Ferrix?

• Are they going to find all their guns?

• Are they going to find their radio?

• The appearance of the stolen TIE-Avenger prototype will surely draw attention. Does the Empire know it was Cassian that stole it?
