Estimating the original colors of the original Star Wars trilogy
Time

I was really looking forward to the automatic tool with no references. I know it isn’t always perfect but from what you have shown, I was very excited about its capabilities. There are many orange and teal and other things I wanted to try it on. Are you still planning to release it? I have tried using the color matching tool and it can be awesome, but takes a lot of time and effort to get it right. Thanks!

I’m glad you enjoyed them, here is the last one I have

Windows: https://we.tl/srDZ35ycvt

I guess back when you could only see the movies in the cinemas, you didn’t notice the different voice actors quite as much.

Thanks again! I enjoyed that one a lot too. It reminded me of a Superfriends episode.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Really sad to see regulars leaving especially people like Adywan. I lurk here on a fairly regular basis and engage in conversations when I feel that I have something to say or am excited about the topic or just want to have fun. I usually can avoid getting upset by simply ignoring posts that start escalations. If everyone would do this, those starting trouble would never get a response or reaction and will hopefully just disappear or shape up and join the fun. This place is kind of like a small family and its sad to see it ruined by a few new troublemakers and/or misunderstandings or overreactions that can just be ignored and moved on from.

Edit: I started this response hours ago and finally was able to post it, so sorry if I am stirring the pot again.

Interesting! I guess everyone has different opinions on what is optimal.

I never noticed the matte lines when it was in the theater, but I was not looking for them. I do remember noticing Vader’s eyes showing through quite well, but don’t notice it as much with today’s digital versions. I think the brightness/color of the bulb might affect what was seen and to what degree. If the matte lines were always visible, I guess they could stay, but they weren’t intended to be seen. I would definitely keep Vader’s eyes being seen since removing them would be altering it. Matte lines are more debatable for me at least.

I am not sure why but I find all of this nitpicking entertaining, and I am happy to be a part of it. In my opinion, the best thing to do is to make it look as good as possible without changing what was originally intended. In other words, if there are color channel misalignments on the original negative, fix them. If there are scratches or burn marks, fix them. If there are matte lines, fix them. Fix any artifacts that are as a result of putting the movie together and something going screwy. Just don’t add, change or remove scenes like the SE’s did.

What is wrong with... Attack of the Clones? - a general discussion thread
Time

After seeing TPM which was a pretty big disappointment (I saw it twice at the theater, and it didn’t get any better unlike TFA which IMO was good the first time, then great the second time, but not (yet) better than the originals), I felt that AOTC was a huge improvement after the first viewing. The reason was it looked more like Star Wars. Everything in TPM was shiny and new and modern looking, and the lighting on ships and sets was all wrong. It wasn’t perfect in AOTC, but definitely headed in the right direction. I liked some of the excitement in the movie such as Obi Wan jumping on the thing and flying out the window and the battle with Obi Wan and Jango Fett although I wish he wasn’t in the movie. The romantic parts were pretty barf worthy, but otherwise I enjoyed it more than TPM, probably mostly because I wanted to like the movie. In retrospect, I don’t really like the movie. The only one that is pretty good is ROTS, but only about half of it. I always thought about writing my own Episode 1 through 3 and actually started on it once but didn’t get very far. I figured it was a waste of time because nobody would really care.

Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **
Time

This is one of those movies that I wish they wouldn’t make. I will be super tempted to see it, but at the same time, I don’t want to ruin all of the mystery and excitement about Han’s past life by having it all spelled out for us. I am totally fine with Rogue One because it is a side story and there is no real existing mystery or past to it that will be spoiled. It’s the same thing with Boba Fett. People liked him so they just had to bring him back for the prequels and ruin the mystery.

This is absolutely amazing and makes the shots look like I remember them. They totally have that “feel” that I grew up with. Agreed with g-force, and just thinking it would be cool to be able to give it a series of frames, scene by scene, have it calculate the correct color for all of the frames, then figure out the best average or most used settings, then apply that consistently to all of the frames in the scene and then save the new frames in an output folder. There are other clips I would love to apply this to beside Star Wars, so I hope you will eventually release this tool to the public. 😃 Great job!
