I agree the “ally” line works best in that clip as it is edited.
Would it work to move the 3PO shot to right after the long shot that had a line removed.

Yeah as time goes on I’m leaning on the idea of not wanting Palpatine in TLJ. TLJ leans heavily on its themes and while it is a sequel it kind of stands on it’s own and works like a character deconstruction
I would like to add some subtle things into TFA to hint at Palpatine though.
I had an idea for this awhile back.
You could make it just voices, or maybe a vision like he has in TROS when he touches the helmet, since he says “show me”. But basically, the vision would revolve around three lines he hears.
Palpatine: If the Jedi are not all destroyed, it will be civil war without end.
Vader: Bring order to the galaxy.
Snoke: And fulfill your destiny!
If we do get a vision, Kylo could get glimpses of the chaos of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Civil War, etc. and then maybe glimpses of a future where Kylo brings “peace” and “order” to the galaxy. Shots of the First Order, Star Destroyers over planets, confronting/killing Luke, etc.
One big benefit is that it elaborates on Kylo’s motivations for turning to the dark side, which we never really get in TFA. He didn’t just turn to the dark side because he was a bad seed or something. He at least had a reason for turning, which he thought would help the galaxy. It also lines up well with Palpatine’s reveal in TROS.
Sheesh this idea is incredible. I would love to see a mockup of it. If someone could get all the isolated audio, then I think this would be one of my favourite inclusions. It feels like a way to subtly mock Kylo.
I can stomach Jar Jar now, especially because of Hal’s cut of the movie. I think doing what he did with his edit helps keep the canon on course, and I have a feeling Jar jar will reappear in the future and the seeds of his beginning need to remain in my mind.
Those extracted C3P0 lines are a goldmine. I never even thought the scene needed anything because it just existed but this proposed line change actually makes the scene pop and makes me laugh.
Not sure if that helps, but in Tales from Galaxy’s Edge VR game, 3PO says “(You needn’t worry), I am a highly trained resistance spy”, which may fit the moment in a very goofy way. Unfortunately, there is some ship noise at the same time.

I mentioned it in Hal’s thread. When Kylo is faced against the Knights of Ren, in hals cut they call him a traitor I believe, but Kylo turns to look behind him towards the second group of knights, if whomever voiced the Knights of Ren could record them shouting the line “You’re too late, Solo” or “Give it up, Solo”.
It makes the name solo sound like an insult and a swear.

Started compositing Vader Castle shot for my personnel version today, just tweaking the lighting and mist levels to match the film right, I’ll probably leave a download link somewhere on here when It’s finished if anyone on here still wants it.

I’m going to be honest, i have no issue with the rhyming but i wish it felt a little darker, a little more vague in the first 2 lines.
So in Hals version of this movie the Knights of Ren are dubbed.
I like the idea but there is one thing I would like to pitch:

Just after reading the last page of this thread. I love the idea of Palpatine speaking sith and stuff on paper but we have to use what we have, and while some may disagree with having Palpatine in the movie to begin with, we shouldn’t remove anymore of Ian’s performance.
I hate rey with the milky eyes but I absolutely LOVE Palpatine’s milky eyes, we are looking at a dead body being puppeted about by the spirit of Palpatine
Duplicating this from the Ascendant thread since it’s not specific to that project: what if evil Rey had Sith eyes? Here’s a test of it in motion. They could be obvious or subtle, or have her whole face look more vampirey.
Wow this is great!, the subtle way would be the way to go, even with the subtle version i would turn the saturation of the eyes down 10% and they would be perfect.

RogueLeader and I have been talking about some stuff for the puppet show, including some dialogue/voiceover ideas. I might let him explain it though since he’s doing all the heavy lifting for the puppet show footage, so I don’t want to grab control of the conversation surrounding it.
It’s all gibberish but I tried to put an emphasis on the part before the kid laughs so it sounds Important
I like it! Obviously the audio would be integrated better in the final product since it’s a little loud right now. I’d imagine it would fade out when the lady starts talking to her as well. But it sounds professional to me.

I would love one more moment on Mustafar, as long as it works and doesn’t affect the flow and score of the movie.
If someone could take the shot nev edited and add it into Mustafar with the rest of the clip and see how it flows. That way Nev wont have to use the bluray if it doesn’t work with the bigger picture.
To explain Exegol another way: Say you’ve trapped me in a room and locked the door. I have the key to escape in the room with me. If you want to stop me from ever escaping, does it make more sense to destroy the key; or does it make more sense to take the key for five minutes and then give it back to me?
That’s my point. It makes more sense if their goal is to just prevent the means of escape completely, rather than “temporarily stall them, and then hope that the miraculous civilian fleet that may-or-may-not-come-at-all will show up in the nick of time.” (“You’ve pinned the survival of the Resistance on bad odds and put us all at risk!”) The film is already halfway there, between the general concept of the Nav Signal, and everything Finn does in the battle. And we can close the remaining gap very, very easily.
As a proof of concept, here is the entire Exegol battle, with just the following bits removed:
- Cut Poe saying “for just minutes.”
- Cut Finn saying that the Fleet only has to stay stuck on Exegol “Till help arrives.”
- Cut Poe’s “but not for long.”
- Cut Poe’s “last chance.” (This one could be smoothed out more.)

That’s it. That’s all of the changes it took. Now the Resistance wants to permanently destroy the nav signal, and thereby trap the First/Final Order on Exegol. That’s the goal. Makes perfect sense to me. I can’t understand how anyone would come up with the other plan as a logical course of action, and I’ve basically changed it around from that just by cutting out some of the semantics.
Heck, if you’re really worried, we could even swap around one of Poe’s lines a smidge to clarify the point even further:

I’m about to start Into the Dark. I thought Test of Courage was a lovely side story that gave us a ton of info about the Old republic and the universe at large.
Just watched the Lava vid that MR posted, there are quite alot of shots that could be used for sure. All the scene needs is about an extra 10 seconds to breathe.
I’m thinking of using some of them to have Kylo fly his ship to Vaders castle and have him find the wayfinder inside. It’s ambitious but I think it can be done.
If you are doing that in your cut, You could take the shot of Krennics ship landing on the platform outside Vader’s castle and change the ship to look like Kylo’s and colour grade it to fit the movie. It wouldn’t take much to change the ship because it appears very small in the scene.
