Revenge of the Sith (The New Canon Cut) [ON HOLD INDEFINITELY]
Time

I’m liking it so far. I haven’t seen it all yet but I really like that it’s been long enough since I’ve seen Episode III that I can’t tell there are edits to the intro. Normally I can see the hard cuts but not here. If I had a complaint about the intro it’d be that part where they land and just start slaughtering droids for like a minute straight. I guess my preference is to see that cut out as much as possible.

So, I’m going to stop working at this for a bit. Temporarily. I’ve already been working on it less and less, but as the semester at college is coming to a close, and finals week is nearing, I’ve decided to put it on hold for now. So no new updates for a while. Not that there were a lot anyway.

That said, I do have a very unfinished rough cut with the newest (pending) changes and ideas. So if anyone wants to preview this latest mockup version, hmu. i live for feedback btw

Hey good luck on finals! Also I’m very interested in seeing a rough cut. Should I direct message you?

Ranking the Star Wars films
Time

My slightly revised rankings. It hurts to move Jedi from the top spot 😦

  1. The Empire Strikes Back (I just can no longer deny that this one is better than Jedi)
  2. Return of the Jedi (Close second though)
  3. A New Hope
  4. The Force Awakens (No Starkiller Base would probably get this in the third spot)
  5. Rogue One (A mostly awkward movie that ends up being okay)
  6. Attack of the Clones (This movie is so bad it’s good. I still watch it just to laugh at it)
  7. Revenge of the Sith
  8. The Phantom Menace
I basically never watch Sith or Menace
    Edited for spelling

I missed it… does TFA involved Darth Vader turning to the darkside because he was a gullible idiot who had some bad dreams? Does it involve one of the worst romance stories in film history? Does it involve dialogue that is sometimes worse than B-movie level?

Yes, Starkiller base is stupid… but so were the Ewoks. Personally I think the OT and Rogue One are better than TFA… but TFA is not that much worse than ROTJ. I think it’s a good movie and entertaining to watch.

I can’t even sit through AOTC. IF anyone honestly thinks TFA is that bad please try actually sitting down and watching AOTC all the way through

And that’s the point I was making about Rogue One as well. If you don’t like either TFA or RO, that’s fine. If you prefer to watch the PT to those two movies, ok that’s your prerogative. But if you think the PT is better made, or do something insane like give the PT a 5/10 and RO a 1/10, you’re just trolling for reactions. So congratulations.

I actually don’t understand OT fans that don’t like Rogue One at all (I do get the TFA criticism)…I kind of feel like that’s the exact type of movie I’ve been waiting for since I was a kid in the 1980s. To each their own I suppose.

Honestly - if you didn’t like Rogue One I kind of feel like it’s time to move on from SW, because you are never going to like anything new

What? My issues with Rogue One don’t bar me from liking new things in Star Wars. For me Rogue One fails in pacing and character setup and then just ends with 45 minutes of Star Wars porn. It’s not terrible but I find it pretty boring with the only interesting parts being anything involving the villains yelling at each other over who gets the Death Star. Rogue One was a pretty good concept but I just don’t like it. I really like TFA and I’m definitely on the hype train for TLJ.

I think that the obsessed prequel fans are starting to become a thing of the past. I’m not saying that people don’t still like the prequels, but the people who think that they are beautiful masterpieces and believe that the original trilogy was a prophetic follow-up to the prequels made 20 years in advance are starting to fade away.

I actually think they’ve grown in number since Disney bought Star Wars.

Do you think the butthurt EUphiles take an axe to their TV everytime they pop in TFA?

Oh most certainly. I’m in a Facebook group for Star Wars and they all talk about how much TFA sucks and the EU is great. And they love ROTS for some reason. There’s a best Star Wars movie poll like once a month and ROTS and Empire are always neck-and-neck.

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!
Time

So Return of the Jedi is my favorite despite a couple of things. I think the 2nd Death Star was a bad plot point and I think the movie doesn’t give enough for Leia and Han Solo to do. Outside of that I have no real criticisms as I don’t mind the Ewoks. Obviously everyone has said that the Emperor and Jabba scenes make the movie a lot better and I tend to agree. The reason this edges out Empire is that Empire, while basically being good all the way through, doesn’t reach the highs of Jedi for me personally. So they’re very close but I’d pick Jedi just for the moments where Luke is being a complete badass and Jabba and the Emperor are being great additions to Star Wars. Also that space battle at the end is awesome. I can’t imagine getting to watch that as a kid.

Hux/Ren is obviously a Tarkin/Vader rehash for kids (Harry Potter/Hunger Games generation)

Okay so I’m gonna bite on this seeing as that’s my generation. I don’t really think this makes much sense seeing as the villains from those series were basically pure evil with no real way around it. In Harry Potter it’s Voldemort who wants to kill all non-magical people and starts a war with one of the main goals being to kill a teenager. His acting in Goblet of Fire and onward actually reminds me of The Emperor’s over the top acting. In The Hunger Games the villain is called President Snow and he’s very mustache twirling and evil. I’m not 100% sure but I think he literally drank blood for some reason (I’m not sure Hunger Games is kind of stupid). But the point is, these villains aren’t really anything like TFA villains.

Sometimes I switch between Return and Empire but I think overall I find Jedi to be more fun and I loved the ending the most of of all of them.

Hey! I also put Jedi at #1! Great to see another. That movie is absurd and fun which is why I love it.

When you were introduced to Star Wars for the first time
Time

I’m 20 so the prequels were coming out when I was a kid. My dad wouldn’t take me to Revenge of the Sith which came out when I was 9, because it’s pretty violent. In retrospect I’m glad that he didn’t because I don’t think the scene of Anakin killing children or getting horribly burned would’ve sat well with me. I used to catch the prequels on TV and I know I’d seen Episode I, II and IV at some point because my parents own the VHS tapes and when I finally watched these movies a lot of the scenes seemed familiar. I definitely didn’t know the plot though.

The big problem is when I caught the prequels on TV, it made me think that Star Wars was some boring science fiction series and that it wouldn’t be very good. I thought the movies looked really fake and boring. I’m glad to have finally seen the OT.

My first real Star Wars experience was The Force Awakens. My friend took me to the midnight release and I really loved the movie. I went and watched the OT and PT pretty out of order but always struggled to get through the PT films. I’ve actually never seen AOTC all the way through and I’m glad to live that way.

Nice post. I’ve always felt that TFA was designed very carefully to not only please young and old fans, but to welcome new fans as well. So, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome! I’ve found the people here on this forum are much nicer and maybe a little more realistic than the people in the Facebook group I was a part of. So many people on there saying if you don’t like the prequels that you aren’t a real fan and a bunch of people shouting about how much they hate The Force Awakens. Like god damn no one can like anything there.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **
Time

I like to think I have a unique perspective on this movie as far as this forum goes because this was my first Star Wars movie. A friend of mine bought me a ticket to the midnight premier last year and even though I thought it was going to be really bad I said “what the hell” and saw it anyway. In the end though, I absolutely loved it. This movie got me watching the rest of the Star Wars movies in a way the prequels, which came out when I was very young with ROTS coming out when I was 9, could not. I saw scenes from those movies in passing whenever they were on TV and they made me think Star Wars was some terrible sci-fi series that I had absolutely no interest in.

Before the movie I knew a few things. I knew who Luke, Han and Leia were and I knew that Starkiller was a recycled Death Star. I also knew Darth Vader died in Episode VI and that he was burned. “The garbage will do” line completely missed me. I had no idea why everyone was laughing but it’s pretty great in retrospect.

The film is fast paced. The characters are really likeable and the acting is good. I made a Facebook post when I got home saying something like “The Force Awakens is really good for most of the movie but the last 30 minutes are fantastic” and I still definitely believe that. The special effects are truly top notch and I really just remember being like “I need to get into Star Wars now.”

So I’m actually glad they kinda just redid Episode IV for this movie because it was the perfect way for someone like me to get interested in Star Wars. In retrospect I wish they hadn’t made another Death Star but overall it was a damn good film. I think I like the original trilogy better now but it’s definitely up there as a great film for me. Long story short, I immediately wanted to see Episode VIII and I think in the end, as long as the rest of this trilogy is up to this quality or better, this will be my favorite Star Wars trilogy because it will be “my” Star Wars. This movie is essentially what Star Wars is to me and feels more like what Star Wars means to me than the originals even though I think I like those better.

Anyway, really wordy post, but yeah those are my thoughts.

Ranking the Star Wars films
Time

Okay so I’m gonna be the guy who loves Episode VI. I’d like to clarify that these rankings don’t come from nostalgia or anything like that. I hadn’t seen Star Wars at all until I saw TFA in theaters. These rankings are simply based on my enjoyment of the films.

  1. Return of the Jedi
  2. The Empire Strikes Back
  3. Star Wars
  4. The Force Awakens
  5. Rogue One
  6. The Phantom Menace
  7. Revenge of the Sith
  8. Attack of the Clones

I recognize the problems with Jedi, but after watching it recently for the first time it was immediately my favorite. The 2nd Death Star was a little annoying but the ewoks don’t bother me one bit. I actually might be the only one who thinks it would’ve been a lot worse/more awkward if they’d gone to the wookie planet which I believe was the original intent before Lucas decided to make ewoks to sell a bunch of toys.
