Anyone considered maybe using some fragments of the dialogue during flashbacks? There’s a one nice line that would work well with the final showdown (Anakin asks Obi-wan what would he do if Anakin failed him as well, and Obi-Wan replies that Anakin would never fail him). I think it’d work super well with the “I’m not your failure Obi-Wan” moment).

So, because of my weak Internet connection at the hotel I was just able to watch like 4min so far, but I have to ask, why those old 70s logos etc? 😉

I was one of those suckers who was actually really excited for Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) because Deborah Chow and Kelley DIxon’s work on Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad fuckin’ rule. Needless to say, that was a bit misguided.

So I took a crack at editing the show to be closer in tone and style to what I expected out of BB-verse alumni.

I don’t think I’m going to do the whole show, but it was just a fun little experiment. The edit isn’t supposed to be like BB/BCS fwiw, just approaching the material with some of the storytelling philosophy I learned from them.

At the very least, Deborah Chow’s sensibilities as a director were still conducive to being arranged in this way so at least some of my excitement wasn’t unfounded

I dunno what the Ep 6 will be about, but I think that if it’s bad the story can actually end on the 5th episode. Reva dies, Obi escapes, the story could kinda end here. If all 5 episodes are wisely trimmed it can still work as a nice coherent story.

So, so far seeing how the series is progressing you think this project will end up as a movie, shorter series or two movies (like Dune movie for ex or some older EU books - Part I and Part II) ? 😉

But I think Daniel Logan reprised the role there

Actually some archival audios from TCW of Bane/young Boba put here and there during flashback sequences could make sense (like some short lines), but I guess it’d be more like a nice easter egg 😄

-I personally missed some cut scenes from 1x06,I’d just leave it all.
-I agree with ppl that it’d be better to end the movie with cliffhanger (Grogu’s choice would be revealed then in the next movie).

Anyway, overall its a great edit and definitely 10 times better than the original source material.
I LOVED what you did with the final battle. In future, I ll definitely watch this instead of the show (this or just 1x05 and 1x06 together) 😉 you really made it an enjoyable film.

Thanks for the feedback, some really good points here.

1. Meeting the mods. I really wanted to get rid of this scene, but I felt their introduction was needed otherwise we just randomly meet them later in the movie. I’m not sure it works without that meeting.

2. Losing the Krrsantan Palace infiltration is also a great idea, but it then removes the motive for the Hutts to give Fett the Rancor.

3. I like the idea of moving the Vanth scene forwards. It would fit well, not as the opening scene but as the first Tatooine scene… I’ll give that a try.

4. I’ve been toying with removing the final flashback scene, which includes the Slave I rescue. I’d still like to keep the scene of him gunning down the Speed Bike gang because its a crucial plot point, so I’ll have to add that bit elsewhere.

After rethinking the slave I part, I think it doesn’t bother me this much anymore. I don’t remember the original well anymore, but I’d swear you did some trimming there cause I dislike it anymore 😄 right now it looks good as it is.

The Krrasantan thing - if you remove totally both scenes with the twins and reinstate the bar scene instead, you have a nice introduction for him.
And the Rancor thing - if you remove the twins completely (their storyline is a dead end anyway and doesn’t add anything really to the story), you can still leave Danny Trejo/Boba scene. The audience will naturally assume Boba wanted to buy/obtain Rancor from the Machete and that’s it, no further explanation needed. He wanted to have a rancor so he has one 😄

About the Power Rangers gang, you’re probably right, structure-wise it’s better to keep the scene even though It’s terrible.

Plus, I still miss those Grogu/Luke scenes 😄 btw, did you try maybe move some Luke/Grogu scenes before Mando goes there? Like, an earlier introduction so they wouldn’t suddenly appear in the last 20min of the movie. Maybe then those scenes could be reinstated as well for the pacing purposes.

Anyway, great edit, makes the sh*tty show an enjoyable SW cinematic experience 😉

I agree that it would take a lot of Fennec/Boba’s relationship out, but I don’t think every moment of it needs to be removed. Just a few so it’s not like every time Boba has a plan, Fennec is right there to tell him why it’s no good or how she has a better idea. That’s one thing I disliked about the show. It felt like Boba was just kind of bumbling around with Fennec guiding him. He’s been a ruthless bounty hunter for so long, you’d think he’d have some level of assertion and confidence in his ideas. But in the show he’s very easily persuaded by everyone, especially Fennec.

I tried messing with that scene a bit just to visually show what I mean. The music obviously needs more fiddling with to line up properly. You could even leave in a few more back and forth shots I cut out to draw the suspension more.

Technically you don’t really need to maintain Grogu on Taooine to have a Mando and Grogu reunion. CarboniteSolo give this idea for a sequence of events, what I think could work for the final:

-Have Din arrive and spend time talking with Ahsoka, Luke training Grogu, but omit the scene when Ahsoka talks about Grogu’s training being interrupted if he sees him.

-Luke asking Grogu if he wants the lightsaber or his friend’s gift.

-Then we see Din’s ship flying off the planet.

-The last scene is Grogu tapping on the glass and Din pushing the button to accelerate.

Plus, you could take the central lines of their reunion and paste somewhere in this footage, maybe in the scene where Din’s ship is flying off the planet.

This sequence is my next task. This week I’ve been cutting together the Tatooine finale and have managed to completely remove Grogu, Pelli and the Major-domo. The resulting cut is actually really good although the audio is going to be challenging!

The motorbike gang have been vastly reduced. I’ve left in the recruitment scene in Mos Espa, but the chase scene has been completely cut, as has any reference to the Major’s majordomo… he flees the Mayor’s office and is never seen again!

I’ve kept the twins scenes in because they are tied to the Rancor and they do provide some valuable plot progression. I’ve dealt with Krrsantan by Boba offering him a job instead of releasing him, allowing me to cut his scene in the Catina.

Unfortunately you can’t have just Grogu’s choice scene because the choice is between the lightsaber and the beskar, which Mando needs to deliver.

Having watched the rough cut through, it does make a decent movie. Infinitely more watchable than the series itself. The difficult part is trying to make sense of Boba’s motivations.

So, you plan to remove the whole Groku/Mando/Ahsoka/Luke stuff?

No, the Luke/Grogu/Ashoka stuff will be there. I’d prefer it not to be, but it’s essential for the overarching story.
It will be trimmed to keep it more compact.

I think it’s your first edit where the goal is not only to reedit the stuff to make it one 2.5h film, but also to actually save the original story, make it just better, enjoyable and coherent (like Rise of Skywalker:Ascendant) 😉
