Amadeus - Laserdisc+DVD Audio Tracks for 4K (formerly Theatrical Cut Restoration)
Time

As a followup on my previous post, I was able to point my Oppo blu-ray player to the .mkv file, on the network, and the playback is superb,  audio and all!

I don't know what the DIVX deal is (after all, it's the same file, in both cases), so if anyone has any ideas that might help, I'm keen to figure that out.  However, the basic problem, i.e., playback in the home theater, is solved.  And there may be some output processing that the Oppo is applying, because the image is stunning (maybe it was already stunning, but, you get the idea).

Thanks,  a lot.

So, I received my PM, downloaded the 32 pieces of this file, and used some utility over on my Linux box to assemble it into a finished product: Amadeus.mkv.

Next, for playback.  Now, I'm new at this, and it's possible (i.e., likely) that I don't have the necessary setup to playback this .mkv on my HTPC (which is really just a PC with a  nice video card, connected to my home theater system...)

Last night, I was able to view the film on my laptop just fine, but tonight, when I went to try to watch it in the home theater, I, apparently wasn't set up to do so.

I have the 'VLC Media Player', and, when I first tried it (because that was what the system was already set to use to play back .mkv files) it seemed to work, but eventually, for some unknown reason...  it quit functioning (which is, yet another, mystery).

So, anyway, I went hunting, and eventually downloaded the DIVX player. It seems very nice, and quite feature-laden.  It brings up the .mkv file quite nicely...  however, I have no audio, for some reason.

If I right-click in the DIVX window, I have an  'audio' selection that brings up:

off
track1 - Unknown
track2 - Dolby Digital (AC3/A52)
track3 - Dolby Digital (AC3/A52)

and it doesn't appear to matter which one is selected, I never hear any audio.

Guidance?

Thanks.

Well, like my father always cautioned me: "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't true..."

I just stumbled onto this site, and this thread.

Is it too good to be true?

I hope not.

I have read all the posts, and it appears that version 2 has stalled (?)

I am keen (very, very, keen) to finally have access to the Mozart-shoots-first version of Amadeus in HD... given that the only other HD version is the, so-called, Director's Cut (which I consider to have been the ruination one of my all-time favorite films).

So, while we're patiently waiting for version 2 to get back on track, is version 1 still available?

Thanks, very much.

p.s.  I almost feel like I'm talking to the Tooth Fairy.
