Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Ignoring the first bit of this deleted scene (which is now perhaps one of the most awkward Star Wars moments... ever), the rest is actually pretty good.  Leia's attitude comes through loud and clear.

I actually quite liked this scene in its entirety. Yes, it is awkward. Very awkward. But that's what's so good about it.

A new Star Wars Trilogy on the way?

I have no problem with this at all.

I would be happier if Lucas didn't write or direct them but let a more competent team put them together.

SW fan JJ Abrams would be ideal....or perhaps Christopher Nolan.

 No. And no.

The only people I want to see working on a new sequel would be someone involved in the original trilogy like Gary Kurtz. I don't want to turn Star Wars into some bullshit remake that looks nothing like the originals. Keep it in the family or don't do it.

I could care less what people are saying or not saying over at sw.com. I didn't read it. But I did read your blanket flame against all prequel defenders. I'm old enough to have seen SW in the theater. And my opinion I could come up with enough crap to say what's wrong with every one of Lucas' Star Wars films. They all have things about them in which I think could be improved upon, but the point is that I don't sit and nitpick every damn thing. Some people find ways to enjoy the films. I'm one of them. So go ahead and lump us all of us fuckers together. But don't expect everyone to take your comments up the ass. What am I getting at? Don't just assume everyone reading this board agrees that the prequels are shit and you have the right to just say whatever the hell you want without rebuttle.

Francis my ass. Winger for the win.

Listen Francis, you sound like a typical PT fan, bring down the OT in the process to lower the standards of all the movies.  I heard that argument before.

The problem is people like you enjoy mediocrity, and that is why Lucas keeps peddling average shit your way for the last 13 years.  Sorry, but I don't think Star Wars and Empire need a damn thing improved on, thats why I love those films, cause they're pretty damn good.

If you like the PT, god bless you, but don't give me that shit that the OT had the same problems the PT did, because if it did, it would have never been as popular, and the Prequels, or even Empire or Jedi wouldn't exist.

Go enjoy your 6 film saga of mediocrity Francis!

I don't need to bring down the OT to lower the standards. Hell half of you already know ROTJ was ruined by the Ewoks. If you think for one moment that people in this world don't live with mediocrity on a daily basis then you're absolutely blind.

As for enjoying it, lets get something straight...it's more like tolerate to enjoy. I can look past certain defects to see the good things. That doesn't take the defects away, but hell if I'm going to dwell on them all day long. People like you are the ones that post here bitching and complaining about what you don't have.

Just because I "enjoy and tolerate" the prequels, does NOT mean that I'm not on your side for getting the OOT cleaned-up on blu-ray in it's original form. I am and that's why I signed the petition in the first place. There are also a lot of preservationists here that I enjoy seeing the work of. But your attitude against people who may be even one foot over the other side of the fence is completely bullshit.

I like this guy on the panle named Hodges who says that the Prequels were all laid out in 1976, so that should debunk all the PT haters that Lucas made this up as he went along.

Hey genius, he started making this shit up in 1980!!!!  Uh, Lucas gets a hard-on for incest because he had Leia kiss her brother!  Unless he considers dying when I was very young the same as dying at childbirth.  Unless he would have Uncle Owen forget he owned C3PO for 10 years when Episode IV rolls around as he is buying droids from the Jawas.

Oh yeah, and that one detail that Lucas calls the Saga now 'The Tragedy of Darth Vader,' yet the novel of Star Wars in 1977 is called, "Star Wars and the Adventures of Luke Skywalker."

Its a shame these fucking morons have to sit side by side with us as Star Wars fans.  I swear this shows me that PT defenders are the biggest fucking idiots!

Fuck you man. Just because I love the OOT, doesn't mean I have to stand here and take your shit for enjoying the prequels.

 Lighten up Francis ;)

If you agree with this guy about how Lucas laid everything out for the PT back in 1976 (which is a blatant lie), then you are a moron too.  Again, if you enjoy the PT, thats cool with me, but I get annoyed with the PT fans who shovel this shit of revisionism about the SW movies these days.

When was the last time you actually watched a prequel? (Or: Revenge of the Sith still blows.)
Time

I'm pretty sure it's been within the past year. I can't recall exactly when.  But I'm not as uptight about the prequels as a lot of you are. I can tell ya this much though, I watch the prequels about the same number of times as I watch the OT. I watch them sparingly because I'm interested in a lot more movies than just Star Wars. But I do enjoy both trilogies regardless of what they "are".

I know this may be from out in left field, but perhaps the OT has been already preserved. Maybe not to everyone's high standards, but perhaps Lucas has preserved the originals to his satisfaction.

What I'm getting at, maybe there is a possibility that Lucas has the originals preserved and has sent those materials to be locked up somewhere never to be revealed until after his death. That way he can preserve history, but also preserve his belief that the existing SE's are the definitive versions at least while he's still alive and able to control it.

Maybe...just maybe.

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal

It's good to see you back Negative1. I'm probably one of the only ones on the board here that actually agreed with you on a lot of your views of the PT & OT. I too understand how real life can get in the way. Boy do I know. As long as you stay in touch every once and awhile and make yourself available to trusted folks like Adywan when the community has questions, I think that will qualm a lot of fears about this project dying. I know there are a lot of people who are interested in seeing this all come to fruition, but I'm sure they are a bit sceptical that it ever will. People don't like to get their hopes up and I don't blame them.

THE STAR WARS SAGA - 1080P AVCHD DVD-9 for PS3 & Blu-Ray players - Episodes 1, 4 & 5 available now
Time

I finally have seen the Ep1 file that was uploaded to tehparadox. Perhaps this has been mentioned somewhere and I'm just not seeing it, but the quality of the capture of SW, ESTB far outweigh the capture of TPM. Or at least the final products look a heck of a lot better. Perhaps someone re-encoded what's up on tehparadox? It's all soft and slightly blurry. There's a huge loss of detail for an HD. The SW capture looked amazingly crisp, as did ESTB...but TPM just looks terrible in comparison. It looks more like a DVD presentation rather than HD.

Keep in mind though I'm watching this from a 1080p projector on a 100+ screen. Adywan, does this sound like a re-encoding issue that's caused a loss of detail? or was this an inferior broadcast capture to begin with?

Can someone confirm what I'm seeing? It can't be my equipment.

I'm not a kid.  I'm 27.  And I have not been fed "bullshit."  I just don't always assume the worst.  It's not wrong to be an optimist.

You have been fed bullshit if you seriously believe the only reason the original versions of the Star Wars film are not on DVD in high quality is simply because despite all their best efforts, they simply just were not able to save this poor film from deterioration.

And I totally get what you mean about being positive about past events. Personally, I like to be a positive polly too! In fact, I am still holding out my hopes that this whole Hitler and war in Europe thing will blow over without America needing to get involved. Also, every night when I say my prayers, I am always sure to ask for the safety of the Apollo 1 crew.

Honestly, I'm happy with my DVD's..both the 2004 remastered versions and the Unaltered Theatrical Versions.  Nothing's about the films has really changed for me.  And I'm sure that Lucasfilms will provide better quality versions when the Saga is released to Blu-Ray.

Finally!... someone here besides Negative1 that shares my opinion.

You guys are reading way more into it. If he had the chance to not make the film, would he? He said yes,  he'd do it again. I take this as though he's just tired of assholes giving him shit all the time about doing  what they think is a crappy movie. He knows and understands the target audience, I'm sure he loves it when kids get all giddy and come up to him to talk to him about.

Info Wanted: Coloring question regarding VHS preservation...
Time

I do have a contact that was on hand for the on set photo shoot. And I've sent her a message to see if she has any knowledge. I might be able to get a hold of the director, but that could be a long shot. It's odd to see it this color after so many years. It just makes little sense why there's such a huge difference unless the process to VHS ripped out the coloring.

Info Wanted: Coloring question regarding VHS preservation...
Time

I’m really curious…but how much color loss would you imagine comes from a VHS tape from 1989/1990 if any? Every tape I own of the footage is the same…but a new version of the same music video is up on MTV/Veoh’s site that has a lot more color saturation than anything I own. If there are no stills from 1989, how am I to know if this newer version is correct? Should I expect color loss on a promotional VHS version of the video? Any opinions would be appreciated.

Here’s a screenshot

comparison.
