'Raiding The Lost Ark' - a filmumentary. (Released)

I took these shots in 2007 at the Oakland Aviation Museum:

The plane was also used for the interior scene featuring Harrison Ford. I don't have pictures but the museum has been known to keep a fedora and a copy of Life magazine handy for photo ops. Maybe on another visit...

Before people get too much more excited about the idea of disseminating the X0 capture, I think it would be worth considering just what an enormous amount of data we're talking about here. Even a dual-layer DVD wouldn't be capable of containing two hours of *uncompressed* video. You guys want to mail each other DV cassettes, fine, but expecting an online upload is pretty unrealistic.

Zion, thanks so much for the update (and the upload).

Minor sidetrack: In my opinion (previously stated long long ago, somewhere on this thread) the Mos Eisley shot has so much wrong with it I'm not sure what a restoration could accomplish, short of working from the camera original. It's not just color balance and grain-- the concept of the effect is flawed.

The filmmakers obviously weren't satisfied with the way the practical landspeeder photographed, and it appears that the orangey 'force-field' area is actually the vehicle's real shadow, painted out frame-by-frame. I get that they wanted to see some daylight beneath the supposedly hovering craft, but there are too many visual cues indicating its true position relative to the ground. The result is that the shadow appears cast towards us, consistent with a light source coming from the background, while every other shadow on location is cast away from us by sunlight from behind the camera. I mean sure, two suns, but still.

I don't know enough about the differences in the various copies floating around that I could ID one section over another as coming from which copy.

Two pages back, post 214:

Look for the station ID on your recording.
Or are you saying your version may be a composite?

TWICE UPON A TIME (Released)
Time
I'm coming to this thread late, but I have to clarify a point: The 'family-friendly' version of TWICE is not a censored version but in fact the director's cut. The producers created the 'adult' version without John Korty's knowledge or permission; it was retracted after its one airing on HBO due to his taking legal action.

I humbly suggest that neither version be characterized as 'censored' or 'uncensored', since those terms do not accurately portray the situation. Technically, the HBO version is the one that is 'cut'. (I would still very much like to see it...)

I'm afraid you really will have to wade through all 89 pages for the answer to this one. Or you could head over to the X0 website and read their GOUT article.

The short answer is that the GOUT is an inferior source because it's been compressed for DVD.

(edit) Oh hi Molly, didn't see you there.

Hey, StrangeLove, have you considered letting us see the real, hi-res thing, or is it gone forever? Your ROTJ one was pretty good too.[/IMG]

That Luke cover isn't mine-- Arnie.d did that one. I never made HQ comps of my cover mockups, but I may go ahead and take a crack at it now. I need an X0-style logo to replace the Criterion header though. Thanks for the compliment!

Ethical and social lapses aside, I didn't care for OCP's aesthetic choices on his 'Classic Editions'. He left too much SE stuff in, and the decision to combine PAL and NTSC sources was ill-considered.

However, Deleted Magic helped point the way for a lot of folks. And he deserves a ton of credit for the legwork he put in on the Thief and the Cobbler project.

And it's originally a Mark Twain reference.

Thanks for checking in, Laserman! We all wish you well.
