[Request] J.J. Abrams Last Jedi Cut
Time

From the multiple edits I have watched of TLJ done by the great fan edits here, there isn’t one that will tick all boxes. For me personally, the best edit is TLJ:Rekindled by poppasketti as this edit keeps most of the movie intact. The worst \ cringy parts of the movie have been removed including Poe’s mama joke, Luke guzzling the green milk, Leia’s force space walk, nearly all of Canto Bight, Phasma and Finn fight removed and Rose and Finn’s awkward smooch on the battlefield. These are all great changes and make the movie enjoyable. However, the perfect edit for me would be all these changes but the Phasma and Finn fight re-introduced, the deleted scene of Luke’s third lesson and Holdo’s hair colour changed from purple to brown.

The other edit I enjoy is ForceGhostRecon Last of the Jedi (Purist version) where it does have the the deleted scene of Luke’s third lesson and the Leia’s force space walk. But it does not show Finn and Roses backstory and Rose suddenly appears out of no where on Crait which I believe will cause consistency issues with Episode 9. These are both great edits but I don’t there is a perfect edit that will tick all boxes.

The Force Awakens - The Starlight Project
Time

Made a few minor changes. Let me know what you think.

It is a time of despair.
Luke Skywalker, last
of the legendary Jedi
Masters, has vanished.

In his absence the evil
FIRST ORDER has risen
from the ashes of the
Empire with a weapon
more deadly than the
dreaded Death Star,
able to destroy any star
system while hidden
in the depths of the Unknown Regions.

With the Republic held
hostage by this deadly
threat, they dare support
only a small Resistance
to locate the long-lost Jedi
Master and defeat the shadow now
spreading across the galaxy…

Hey Force,

This is my 2nd favorite TLJ edit. But one thing always bothered in this edit me was the introduction of Rose. She just suddenly appears out of nowhere in the old rebel base wearing a weird jacket. Because there is no backstory for this character it just seems strange that this new character is kind of just there and then she disappears. Would you ever do an edit that shows more of Finn and Rose story? Also, it’s been confirmed Rose will be in Ep9 so it would good to have the consistency of Rose being shown on the MF. I’m not criticizing your edit just wondering if you have considered it.

What’s your first favorite? I’d love to check it out!

First, let me be clear that I appreciate the time and energy you put into these edits and I’m in no way criticizing the work
you have done. My favorite or “go to” edit is The Last Jedi - Rekindled edition by Poppasketti. You may have seen it already.
The reason it’s my favorite is that he has kept most of the movie intact but has only removed the most cringiest parts
which include Hux’s mother joke, Luke drinking the green milk, Leia superman scene, Canto Bight scene is now only 5mins, No Phamsa and Finn fight and Finn’s speeder sacrifice is left in but Rose gets shot down by AT-M6 and no awkward kiss scene between Finn and Rose. With these scenes removed it actually makes the movie enjoyable.

I know this will never happen, but in my opinion the perfect edit would be a hybrid of Poppasketti edit and your edit.
Your edit would now include Finn and Rose meeting, the lightspeed tracker side story of Finn and Rose travelling to
Canto Bight but shortened and Finn’s speeder sacrifice is left in but Rose gets shot down by AT-M6 and no kiss scene between Finn and Rose. But everything else is kept intact. However, I do like the focus of edit is kept on Rey and Luke story, the deleted scene of third lesson incorporated in and the praetorian guards using lightsabers. The ultimate perfect edit would have Admiral Holdo’s purple hair changed to blonde or brown if it’s possible.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace - Faster, More Intense!
Time

I haven’t seen your original edit so I cant compare the two scenes but I really enjoyed this 10min footage. The removal of the fart jokes and the two headed alien commentor (I always hated that alien) from the scene gives it a more serious tone. It would be good to remove that American accent commentator to if possible and just leave the Alien language in. I thinking adding Jabba back in doesn’t take away anything from serous tone and adds a bit of fan service. I would be really interested in watching you V2 version. Do you have an ETA?

The Last Jedi- Full Movie Re-Edit
Time

I think Ivan missed the ball on his re-edit. This will definitely not be my “Go To” edit and these are the reasons why.

  • Let’s start with Akbar. Everyone was excited when Ackbar was back. However, after hearing the voice actor and dialogue it’s terrible. Ivan really should have had someone proof read the dialogue. In Ackbars speech after Leia gets sucked out to space he should say “a spy among us” not “between us” and Ackbar refers to Leia as Princess Leia which should be General Organa or Leia Organa. It just comes across as amateurish and sloppy.

  • The addition of Battlefront 2 gameplay looks awful and takes you out of the immersion of the movie. This needs to be removed.

  • In the the training montage there is scene of Luke and Rey training in the rain and it’s in slow motion and just looks off from the rest of the film and it’s quite jarring. This scene needs to be removed.

  • The third lesson deleted scene in the village is stuttering and dropping frame making it hard to watch. How is this deleted scene such poor quality with other edits on this site incorporating this scene flawlessly.

  • The Canto Bight scene is better that it is has been reduced in length. But why are the Faithers being shown as they dont add anything to the story. Remove the scene where Finn and Rose go out to the balcony and watch the Faithers it’s not necessary.

  • The footage of Kylo Ren in Luke’s flashback scene on the Millennium Falcon looks off because its low quality footage and the rest of the movie is in HD. This scene needs to be removed. And when did Kylo get a chance to ever enter the Millennium Falcon. The scene makes no sense.

  • Rose is a annoying character. But Ivan shouldn’t just kill her off in the movie as she is going to be in Episode 9. There needs to be consistency otherwise it won’t flow once Episode 9 is released. Same with keeping Luke alive at the end of movie. If he is a force ghost in Episode 9 there will be a consistency issue.

After over a years worth of work this is a very disappointing outcome from Ivan. He has just added too much extra content and it comes across as a clunky re-edit. Less is more in most edits. Also, his own personal dislike for the film and character were edited poorly IMHO eg killing off Rose and keeping Luke alive.

The Last Jedi: Rekindled (RELEASED!)
Time

Hi poppasketti,

If you’re planning to do Rekindled v2.0 of the edit I’ve been watching a couple of Ivan Ortega’s livestream and Ivan showed his edit of the fight scene between Finn and Phasma where he removed the cringy dialogue. Both “Let’s go chrome dome” and the “Rebel scum” line were removed and it’s actually quite watchable. So, if you ever do a v2.0 edit it may be worth introducing the fight scene back in again with these changes. Cheers mate.

I haven’t been trying to defend him (outside of basic fairness) and even raised questions to him way back when he first started his patreon push as to the ethical and lawful issues with it and potential outfall to the larger fan editing community.

I also brought it to his attention when he was copping a fair bit of heat in this very thread, in the hope that he could come on here to explain his motives about the use of the money being essentially raised by a fan edit (hopefully more in line with what Ady does with all the funds going towards the edit, not to make a living…) and help smooth things over. Instead he simply cracked the shits and left, not trying in the least to understand anyone else’s point of view and concerns around territory everyone here shares to a greater or lesser extent with some commonly accepted ground rules so as not to endanger the great thing we do have going here (and other places).

Even after that I still felt he was going to finish and release his edit which he clearly has made with enough other people having posted videos on having watched a rough / unfinished version, though for the past 3-4 months even I have really started to doubt that it will ever be actually finished or released. He has actually said that the only thing holding up the edit now is the filming of and editing in the new Kylo vs Luke fight sequence which due to some issues, he is not sure now when that will be able to be done and so he actually announced he would be releasing the edit as is and releasing another version later on once the fight sequence edit was done. He has said this a couple of times now some months ago and still there is nothing nor any further word since. Being a fan edit, there is no actual reason that he HAS to release it, that is entirely his decision and he may end up deciding to keep it only for himself and maybe some close family and friends and there is nothing (normally) wrong with that.

The actual issue stems from the fact that he is now clearly using it to string viewers along and probably has for a long time, if not maybe from the very beginning itself though I think initially it was simply a passion project he wanted to share but as it grew into a bigger and bigger event it has changed his own view on the arrangement, wanting to get more himself out of his efforts and essentially turning the situation into preying on people’s feelings around TLJ and general interest in seeing a fan edit of it. What makes it especially bad and an ethical dilemma is that he is earning money from Youtube and Patreon because of it.

He is free of course to come on here and defend himself and try to justify everything that has happened but that ship has kind of already sailed anyway. Ultimately it would be nice for him to finish and release the edit as much for himself to finish the project as for all the people that joined him on the journey that started out so positive and hopeful. No one is forcing people to watch his videos (I stopped a couple of months back) but they were on board for a reason and that reason seems now nearly nonexistent while still being offered up as bait to continue generating income.

His next move will more or less define how he is remembered. Some examples that I can think of are as:

  • a fan editor who has a different interpretation and perspective on what is proper and allowable (still wrong but in his head it’s justified) and doesn’t cope well with the pressure, stress and expectation of the self inflicted publicity OR
  • a less than ethical fan editor who wants to be reimbursed for his time and efforts editing someone else’s property (though he’s always maintained that it will be freely available) OR
  • an outright scammer

You’re not paying attention. Only a few days ago Ivan put up a thumbnail in YouTube saying the edit was completed and to look out for it. It will be released by the end of the month.
