Are there any new <strong>Star Wars Books</strong> coming out soon? a general book discussion thread
Time

Luke, Han and Leia would have been side characters or have cameo roles much like the sequel trilogy films had the books continued.

Lucasfilm would not let the characters be killed so i assume they died of old age or something, between crucible and the legacy comics series.

Luke was never going to be the main hero again. Jaina Solo was the new main character, in the cancelled Sword of the Jedi series, supporting characters would have been Jag Fel, Ben Skywalker and Allana Solo.

The new Books would have just filled in the blanks of the era between Crucible and the comics.

NJO was not exactly golden but LOTF was rubbish and FOTJ was worse.

Legacy of the Force was a bad retread of Hayden Skywalker from the prequels with Jacen Solo assuming the role.

All Things Star Trek
Time

Is Paramount still shooting for a smaller budget than into Darkness?  Last i heard it was going to be shot in Canada and South Korea and  be the first Trek not on film.  Claudio Miranda is the cinematographer who was going to be working with Orci.

With Justin Lin replacing Orci and no script.

Its almost worse than the making of Spectre.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * <strong>SPOILER THREAD</strong> *
Time

Dissapointed the X-wings and  Falcon are cgi but fully expected them to be.

Just like the new Starship Enterprise ILM designed.

All OT ships since 1994 have been digital anway or am i wrong?

With the exception of the documentary special effects anything can happen, they did shoot models for that.

Other than Jar Jar and midichlorians, what don't you want in episode 7?
Time

If they kill Luke off in a lame way it will be as bad as the book the EU originally intended to do the same by Traviss.  Was vetoed so they killed off his wife instead.  Nothing would prevent me from returning to see the sequels more than Luke going dark or being killed.

If Luke's a lame creepy hermit with no wife or girlfriend, has no children i will also be less than thrilled .  He would have been turned into a prequel jedi.

What do you LIKE about the EU?
Time

Every time i see this thread i laugh.  Only because there is no EU its gone.

Everything is now one continuity.  Special editions, prequels, clone wars, rebels, sequel trilogy and whatever else they do  in the new marvel comics etc and Del Rey.

The Legends title is for all the stuff that you used to either love or hate but is now gone forever.

The oot has itself been out of canon since 2000 or so when they stopped calling the special edition, the special edition. But Lucas probably planned to bury it as far back as 1994.

Whether it is restored to canon status and the sequel trilogy is a  sequel to the  true original trilogy remains to be seen.

Don't really feel like going into too much detail but Bayformers 4 is the worst of the bunch.

Definitely deserves the 18% rating on rotten tomatoes.

1 and a half stars.

Really should give it zero or negative stars. But its oddly entertaining in some part, in some kind of train wreck sort of way. There is no real story, and its basically a 2 hour and 45 minute Habro toy commercial.

The script is actually worse than Orci. That Kruger guy is worse than the original Bayformers scribe.

I laughed out loud at transformium, Marky Mark phones it in and Evil Frasier thinks he is the hero somehow and will save us all from illegal alien robots.

Optimus is completely out of character and Bay even managed to ruin Grimlock.

Mark Wahlberg refuses to return and Bay is out as director, but the next 2 sequels which will probably be pushed back in their release date will still be written by the same screenwriter.  Now if the next movie was about Optimus on the creators/ quintesson planet or whatever and its only robots fighting robots that might be interesting but they could epically screw it up.

4K?
Time

I thought the mastered in 4k thing was a marketing gimmick for Sony/Columbia pictures.

To me 4k is great at the cinema not so great at home thanks to price and living in  a small apartment.

1080P is fine for me.

I hate digital projection but i saw some stuff shot on film that looked great in Sony 4K digital at the movies.

And to add to what canofhumdingers said a bad master won't look any better at 4k than 1080P when a really good one will look spectacular on 1080P.  So i wonder if the same is true for 4k a good master would look even better.

A good tv is important but a good blu ray master is a must as well.  How many releases are just older masters ported over, not very much better than the 1080i butchered and way too compressed HDTV cable broadcasts.

<strong>STAR WARS: REBELS</strong> (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Even though the pilot Spark of Rebellion aired in HD it is being released on October 14th as DVD only.  No deleted scenes, or bonus material of any kind.

No Blu ray.

The show was not great, and not that bad either.

Biggest prequelism i noticed was the Artoo unit having a jet booster like Artoo from the prequels.  Also the Obi Wan Hologram, and the Inquisitor looks like that dubious guy from the planet where Obi Wan chased Grievous in episode III.

Other than that they were trying pretty hard for an OT style.

The one character i really don't care for is Sabine.   I don't hate the character she just seems uninteresting. If not outright annoying like in the mini episode.

I was far more interested in the smuggling aspect and the rebels without lightsabers.  As soon As Kanan whips his lighstaber out it became almost prequel like to me.  The  stormtroopers all focusing fire on him and him deflecting them with his lightsaber was very prequelish and video gamey.

Why can't Kanan simply have just been a smuggler why did he have to be a smuggler jedi.  I think the character would be more interesting if he was not waving around a light stick.

What do you HATE about the EU?
Time

Is it the EU fault that everything had to have a backstory?  Is it the success of the 90's Eu that the prequels were even made?

I would charge that both are true.

Characters like Boba Fett needed a back story because people did not want any sort of mystery and they wanted all the blanks filled in.

The EU even infected Lucas thinking as far as i can tell.  Before the 90's he insisted the EU did not exist and was separate from his universe.  Flash forward he uses the EU for source material to make the prequels.

With the Apes Saga i only like the first film, i guess that is considered as weird as only liking Star Wars, or just Raiders. Or those who only like the first Alien film, or only like the first Terminator.

I am also probably the only fan of the original film as far as i know have not found anybody else yet, that despises the cgi movies.

That loathes and hates everything that has been done since that Marky Mark movie.

I don't feel a need to have everything prequelized and to know where everything came from or to have every mystery solved.  Especially since such revelations ruin the first movie.

What did Ghost Obi Wan mean?
Time

The other ended up becoming Leia.   In Jedi Yoda whispers on his deathbed "there is another Skywalker"

Who knows what the original plan was.

I have read sort of other ideas vague notions of Luke having another sibling that is not Leia very far and remote in the galaxy, largely coming from something Kurtz one said.

There is also the idea that Hamill's character could be replaced if the actor was difficult or they decided to kill Luke off.

Ray Rice- American Football Star
Time

The same guy who allegedly destroyed the 26 patriots cheating tapes of spygate aka videogate, not that is equated with aggravated  assault.

Same guy who  allegedly pretended the concussion problem was not so bad and the NFL assumed pretty much zero liability.

I understand his job is to keep the NFL going as a viable money making enterprise just like any ceo.

Goodell i mean.

4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

Jason Ward does not seem to understand it has long been common practice to scan something at 4K or higher and release it as a standard blu ray.

If these were ever done there is nothing to say they were done for an ultra HD audience seeing as most folks have standard 1080P televisions.

Sets and players would be priced out of range of the regular consumer for years to come.  Not to mention the worldwide great recession has not disappeared since 2008.

How did you first see the Star Wars films?
Time

Return of the Jedi 1985 theatrical re-release.

Star Wars bootlegged recoding off of HBO.

Empire strikes back HBO broadcast premiere.

1997 special edition in theaters

Phantom Menace 1999 last Star Wars to be shot on film until Episode VII.

As to the order i watched the oot in, Empire first, then star wars and jedi.

Found empire boring and star wars far too slow to get to the action, as a kid i mean.  I now find empire and star wars virtually tied for first place and jedi for second place.

Guess i never really saw the real star wars though because it was episode IV and not the 77 version.
