Has technology accelerated that much?
Time
I was 5 when my family bought a VCR. When I finally got a copy of each Star Wars movie on VHS I thought it was the greatest thing ever in my young life. My parents heavily monitored any TV/movie watching I did, so it was a treat to be allowed to watch it. In fact I remember the first time that Star Wars A New Hope aired on network tv. I had become sick that day, and slept most of it, but my parents let me watch Star Wars that night (my very first viewing since I was too young to see it in the theater) and it was amazing, and so I remember that day still it made such an impression. I don't know what movie or other entertainment experience kids today could compare with, but back then it was an end all for me in 1982.

I got my first internet computer in 1996, and yeah, it's basically a piece of junk now. I could use it to play some games, or write papers, but why bother, lol. So I think technology has definitely accelerated very quickly over the past 10 years.

I still have a soft spot for the VCR, tho. Something like your tv always had to be on either channel 3 or 4 to play the movie. Those were the days. It was like picking up some sort of signal from the gods. Turn the dial to channel 3, now Return of the Jedi starts!

"Black Friday" SW DVD Sales...Wow, Did Some of You...
Time
Well, GL can make some money, like he's no stranger to....hehe. BUT the more this happens the more people are going to be displeased. He's said before that negativity hurts...criticisms of the films, etc. So we know the man isn't unaware of these things. I guess he just chooses to live in a bubble, but he only has himself to blame, and it can't be a good experience. Lots of people I know only like the OUT, so he's not going to successfully bury it. With a situation such as this he ceases to matter, and that's sad and pathetic really.

Will you buy the OOT again ?
Time
I bought the 2006 dvds too, and they are okay for what they are, but not the best that Star Wars could be. So, like Mielr, I will buy again but only if it's anamorphic. Also, only if George Lucas relents from being hard-headed about the whole thing and makes it a good release. He needs to release outakes and deleted scenes like other directors/creators do who are truly proud of and want to share their creation. Otherwise, he's just being small-minded and selfish.

Where do I go from here as a SW fan?
Time
My friend has an HD tv, and I watched each movie of the trilogy on it. I think it's just that when you go to a higher, better tech format for viewing things such as this are more visible. I mean this is the first time it seems that an older format has just been transferred to a more modern one, but it was extremely noticable and looked bad. When I watch the new DVDs on my non HD tv the movies look fine. Not that it was originally part of the film tho, the gate weave.

As far as who the franchise passes to, it'll probably be his kids. They are young right now, and are probably responsible for inspiring the ruinition of the newer movies, but they'll get older...but I still think they won't understand jack about what Star Wars is about. They've just been born into it. Even if they learn more as they grow older their negative imprint remains. I doubt it'll be reversed at this point. Lucas and those close to him refuse to acknowledge anything's gone wrong. Their loss.

STAR WARS CELEBRATION IV in Los Angeles - May 24-28 2007
Time
I bet the Celebration Europe will be better than the US one. It just figures. Like in 2005 when they showed all 6 movies in London...they'ed never do that in the US. In fact there's a lot of people who'd like to see the OT in theaters but Lucasfilm won't allow it. Sure it was a special thing they did in London for when ep III came out, but it never happened in the US even though people would have loved it.
Also, Gencon did an awful job at the other Celebrations. Lucasfilm continues to use them to run these things. I may go, but not expect anything. Just go at least knowing the fans are cool, but the rest will blow. It's a good reason for all the fans to come together who actually appreciate the movies. The rest is just a money-grubbing free for all.

POLL: Which version of the OT do you own?
Time
I have a lot of copies.

Official VHS from 95.
widescreen VHS from sci-fi channel airing in 93 or thereabouts
1992 LDs
2004 DVDs
2006 DVDs

I used to have 80s versions of the VHS, but since the 95 release there was no reason to keep them. Now I'll never get rid of the others...until Lucas takes the OOT seriously I will hold on to it all. In fact even if he does I won't pitch them. He's been a putz for the past decade, and no amount of a patch job will ever earn back my trust. He blew it bigtime.

Calling all HALLOWEEN fans...
Time
I don't like slasher movies. And they always show a bunch around Halloween when they actually have NO relation to Halloween whatsoever. They are movies about murderers, big whoopty-freaking-DO! I've seen Halloween a long time ago, and was bored. Is it supposed to take place on or around Halloween? I can't even remember.

Black Christmas came before Halloween.

"..secret to the future is quantity," Lucas said
Time
I think a very telling part of that '04 interview is this:

"I wanted to actually finish the film the way it was meant to be when I was originally doing it. At the beginning, people went, “Don’t you like it?” I said, “Well, the film only came out to be 25 or 30 percent of what I wanted it to be.” They said, “What are you talking about?” So finally, I stopped saying that, but if you read any interviews for about an eight- or nine-year period there, it was all about how disappointed I was and how unhappy I was and what a dismal experience it was. You know, it’s too bad you need to get kind of half a job done and never get to finish it. So this was my chance to finish it."

He never liked the movies most everyone else liked.

The X-Files - Worth Watching?
Time
I completely agree, Hot.like.fire. I watched XF during most of it's original run, and I personally would rate it as seasons 1-6 STRONG. 1-5 = damn near perfect show. Only a few lackluster eps here and there in 1-5. I was very addicted. It's good that I've finally taken a break from the show. I had a few joker friends who would call me up on season premiere night right at 9-9:05 just to take the piss during some years. LOL...I can do that now.
