This was the only project that I was interested in, in fact I was always looking at anything Toy Story related on the OT forums and you should’ve seen the excitement on my face when I saw that this project was on it’s way. Sadly by the time I saw the project, the donations were already closed but I was willing to donate either-way and was hoping to see at least some clips of the final project. I understand it from both point-of-views, obviously leaking the scan wouldn’t have been good but people should’ve at least seen something out of it rather than just some screenshots of the scan.
Personally I’m glad that I didn’t donate now, if I had known it would come to this I wouldn’t have donated in the first place. I’m not the person who decides how a project is dealt with but I’m just posting here for that violin guy to play for me, could use a little violin right now.
One day I’ll finally be able to see Toy Story on 35mm, in a high definition format at least.
It’s funny, of all the little things that my brain has to be obsessed over, with my luck it had to end this way.
Hope you’re doing ok Tristan, I appreciate the time and effort you put into this project.

If you’re depressed about all of this, just remember- this movie has DOZENS of releases and rereleases from over the years- all with different visual appearances- and has still remained entirely unchanged in terms of story and dialogue. All of the wittiness, the charm, and the incredible heart that we associate with 90s cinema and classic Pixar is still intact- this movie is KICK ASS no matter how you watch it!
This I don’t really understand, the whole idea of this project was to preserve the original format that this movie was released on, as it was in 1995 before home video releases. Doesn’t saying this defeat the entire purpose of the project in the first place? It’s not something that NEEDED to happen because there isn’t anything necessarily wrong with modern releases of the film besides a few technical goofs here and there, at least nothing that ruins the movie. But it still would’ve been nice to preserve something that has only seen standard definition home video releases in a modern format without the use of any AI or other upscaling plugins. It’s not like it’s something that is so niche that only a small crowd of people would be interested in, because look at the turnout of the donations and replies to this thread. Obviously we love the movie for what it is, but most of us are preservationists.
