STAR WARS CELEBRATION IV in Los Angeles - May 24-28 2007
Time
I was at Celebration III and it was AWESOME.

I definitely plan to be at C4. I hope at least some of the people from this forum will also be there.

I'll be taking tons of pictures again, I hope.

May the [Good Side of the] Force be with us.

ITS HAPPENED-- OOT AVAILABLE FROM LUCASFILM
Time
Aloha, fellow Star Wars fans.

I want to thank Jay for starting this whole website & organized internet movement. I signed the petition years ago but, I must confess. [Please don't hate me for being pessimistic but:] I never thought I'd see the day. When I found out yesterday (May 3rd, between 5:30 p.m. & 6 p.m. local time), it took a while before the truth / reality of the whole situation sank in. Am definitely happy, though. Freakin' happy. I am one happy nerd now, no doubt.

Personally, I would have hoped they would have made an exception & included the "Episode IV: A New Hope" title but, don't get me wrong. If they keep it out to be fair, I'll still take it! Can't wait for those DVDs to come out. September 12th, 2006. Man. Just can't wait. Will have to go watch my THX Widescreen VHS tapes to tide me over.

Congratulations to all of us fans who cared enough to speak out (via the petition) about getting the original versions to DVD. I don't think of it as "Lucas caved in" (I still have great respect & appreciation for the man) but I'm glad Lucas & the other powers that be are giving us what we want. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!

Now, if we can only get him to change his mind & make Episodes VII, VIII & IX. I still want to see Mark Hamill reprise his role as Luke Skywalker & take his place as the "new Yoda" amidst a new Jedi Order.

May the Force be with you.

Video Game I.D. Help, Please!..............
Time
Hello, Everyone!

A co-worker of mine, who knows I'm a big Star Wars fan, asked me to help him identify a video game he remembered playing years ago. He says the game must have come out before November of 1996 ('cause that's when he played it). The stage of the game he played featured a character jumping from what he described as "train car to train car". This "train" moved from the foreground toward the background (thus, most likely a scrolling-effect).

I may be a Star Wars fan but I'm not much of a gamer so I couldn't really help him. However, some elements he remembers from that stage he played are: a junkpile & Boba Fett. He mentioned Cloud City. My first guess was Super Empire Strikes Back for the Super Nintendo but he didn't think that guess was right.

Do these clues sound familiar to anyone? We are trying to figure out the name of the game & the platform he probably played it on.

Any clues / information would be most appreciated! Thanks, gang.

May the Force be with you.

Sincerely,

This Says It All
Time
R2,

I totally know where you're coming from. I may have said this before but:

I don't hate Mr. Lucas. Far from it. I am very grateful to him for giving us the Star Wars universe, something I've cherished since childhood. Still, I wonder how he would feel if I could reach into his brain & alter his childhood memories. I'm guessing he wouldn't be happy either.

I have nothing against the Star Wars fans that WANT the Ruined (oops, sorry...I mean) "Special" Edition on DVD. More power to them. However, I think it's the fans like me who want the ORIGINAL versions of Episodes IV, V & VI on DVD that are getting the short end of the stick.

I will not give up hope. Yes, I hear that Lucas & his associates say they won't be putting the original versions on DVD. However, I'm hoping the SE will sell SO MANY copies that Lucas will see putting the original versions on DVD as a further lucrative project.

Then again, would it take POOR sales to convince him to do so?

HAN SHOOTS FIRST!

Best wishes,

The Battle of Yavin
Time
Hey, gang.

Thanx for responding!

We can't guarantee that 27 pilots died. As someone mentioned in an older post string on this subject, some of the pilots may have opted to retreat early. [Perhaps some of them had technical problems with their fighters.]

In any case, even though we see 2 X-Wings, a Y-Wing & the Millenium Falcon fly away in the exploding Death Star shot, we can still guess that other ships may have flown off earlier [or off screen].

I can re-watch the sequence & get back to you with a more definite answer but I'm guessing, off-hand, that only 6 Rebel pilots were confirmed blown out of the sky plus 1 was downed for a crash-land death (Red Leader).

As Darth Chaltab mentioned, Luke & Wedge are confirmed survivors. The fate of the other 21 pilots (20 if you count Pink Five...ha, ha) was not clearly documented in "A New Hope".

Best wishes,

got Rebel T-shirts?
Time
I went to a local collectors' event recently where a good number of local 501st ["Vader's Fist"] members appeared in their Stormtrooper uniforms, T.I.E. Pilot gear, etc. Heck, VADER was even there. It was lots of fun. I'm not a member yet but I DO plan to start the local Rebel Alliance platoon. It seems there is no one but a lone X-Wing pilot costume-player here that RARELY shows up to represent the GOOD GUYS! ["Princess Leia" makes an appearance once in a while, though......]

ANYWAY, after they all got out out of their outfits at this event, many of them sported their Imperial Forces t-shirts. I thought this was very cool. Some of them even had ones that said "got armor?".

So, ...I'm wondering, are there cool Rebellion t-shirts out there? Why do searches of ebay only turn up cool shirts for the Empire? Where is the good guy / good gal sense of identity?!

Or even ORIGINAL TRILOGY shirts would be cool. I'd love to have a shirt that says "HAN SHOOTS FIRST!" on it. How cool would that be?

If anyone knows of cool Alliance t-shirts (especially with the Rebel logo on it), please let us know!

Best wishes,

P.S. Rebel patches anyone?

The Battle of Yavin
Time
Hello, Everyone!

This is sort of a follow-up to an old thread I once started here called "Talking to the Dead?". [I don't see it here anymore so it may have been deleted.] Anyway,

Having seen the new "Gold Leader" 3 3/4" action figure from Kenner/Hasbro prompted me to re-visit the Rebel Forces attack on Death Star I, otherwise known as "The Battle of Yavin" in Episode IV. I did this for the purpose of figuring (no pun intended) out how many Rebel pilots were seen in this legendary initiative. Here's the breakdown:

Red Squadron [X-Wings]
Red 1) [Red Leader?] ..."Dave"
Red 2) Wedge Antilles
Red 3) Biggs Darklighter
4) **
Red 5) Luke Skywalker
Red 6) Jek Porkins
Red 7) ?*
8)
Red 9) ?*
Red 10) Name Unknown?
Red 11) ?*

Gold Squadron [Y-Wings]
Gold 1) [Gold Leader?] ...Jon "Dutch" Vander
2) **
3) **
4) **
Gold 5)
6) **
7) **
8) **
9) **
10) **

Tiree = Gold 2?

Not to mention the Millenium Falcon (Han Solo & Chewbacca)
& Pink Five (Stacey from the Fan Film). I count her since this fan film was so cool. Ha, ha.

Now, one of the imperial officers in the Death Star reported to Vader that they counted 30 ships. I'll ASSUME his report was accurate. [Hey, would YOU want to give Vader an inaccurate report?] This in mind, not including the Falcon, there should have been 30 ships total. Now, for more notes:

I assume Red Leader & Gold Leader were Red 1 & Gold 1, respectively, since no one called out these numbers as their designations.

A total of 5 X-Wing pilots & 3 Y-Wing pilots were featured on-screen during the Battle of Yavin sequence. Voices were heard designating themselves as Red 7, 9 & 11 but not while they were on-screen. One of these "Red" call signs may have been the pilot with the Red Helmet who ultimately died in the battle. Despite the fact that a range of call signs trhough the number 11 were called, the call signs Red 4 & Red 8 were never called.

Gold 5 remained unnamed in the film. If ANYONE out there knows the character's assigned name, I'd be much obliged if you'd share it with us.

One of the 3 Y-Wing pilots seen was called "Tiree". I assume he's the pilot with red Rebel insignia on it shadowed by black. He may have been Gold 2.

Furthermore, at least 3 other (X-Wing?) pilots were seen in the Yavin Rebel Base before take-off wearing shiny (like new) white helmets with blue Rebel Alliance insignia. We can assume they were among the 30 ships sighted.

Yes, I'm anal retentive and YES this all may seem rather tedious & insignificant but, for a SW fan like me, it seems quite interesting. The facts tell me that Tiree (Gold 2?), Gold 5, Red 10 (whom we see but don't know his name) & Red Leader are yet to be made into standard Star Wars figures.

If I'm wrong about any of this information, I'd appreciate anyone's input / corrections. I'm not totally up on what toys have been coming out from Kenner / Hasbro & I'm not totally up on the character names released by Lucasfilm assigned to characters who we haven't known in years previous.

If we know for sure, however, that 8 of the ships were X-Wings (9 if we count Pink Five) & 3 of them were Y-Wings, I wonder what the ship breakdown was for the other 18 or 19.

Any (constructive / positive) feedback would be appreciated.

MTFBWY.

Episodes 7,8,9?
Time
Hello, Everyone.

Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in (even though I haven't posted here in quite a while).

I remember hearing since I was a very young boy that there were going to be a total of 9 films in the Star Wars Saga. However, I could understand why Lucas would stop with Return of the Jedi. With the redemption of Anakin Skywalker's soul, Luke seemed to have fulfilled his ultimate destiny.

However, it is my humble wish that Mr. Lucas WILL do Episodes VII, VIII & IX. I must admit, first off, that I am ignorant of most of the Expanded Universe novels out there. I have owned a few over the years but never managed to finish reading any of them. [Maybe I have adults' A.D.D. ...] I DID read the novel adaptations of the entire original trilogy, on the other hand.

Still, I have heard some interesting things about the books. People's love of the "Admiral Thrawn trilogy", the formidable "Yuzhan Vong" nemisis (forgive me if I'm misspelling anything). Chewbacca's untimely demise. Han Solo & Princess Leia's 3 (or more?) children. Even if Lucas decided to not touch any of the ideas in the post Jedi E.U., I would still like to see what he feels wold be his continued vision for the "last" 3 films.

Since ROTJ sees the fall of the Empire, I figure the fans would naturally expect to see the members & supporters of the Rebel Alliance work toward rebuilding the New Republic. I'd like to see Luke becoming, for all intents & purposes, the "new Yoda". Luke building a new Jedi Council. Rebuilding the healthy ranks of the Jedi. [He'd need to delegate the responsibilities for training hundreds of new Jedi.] Re-establishing a sound base on Coruscant. Esentially, order being restored to their galaxy. It's not to say there won't be MANY obstacles. Imperial holdouts. New enemies trying to take advantage of the time of transition [no definite governing body.....]

Sure, all this may sound like it's moving to become more like Star Trek. [Bear in mind that I am also a fan of the Trek universe but moreso of the SW universe.] However, I think it would be the natural progression of what the Rebellion stands for & what Luke, Leia & our other heroes would work & have fought for. Uniting worlds. Proliferating peace. Freedom. Damn, sounds like I'm running for freaking office or something.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. IF Lucas never makes any more Star Wars films, well, I guess I could finally read some of the E.U. novels. If anyone has recommendations toward their personal favorite books / storylines in the E.U., I'm all ears.

MTFBWY.

Sincerely,
