The Unofficial Complete REVISITED SAGA Ideas and Random Discussion Thread
Time

Blockade and force Coruscant into a siege. The rebels would be desperate for this to happen, as since ESB they have been aggressively pursued and chased around the galaxy and are willing to launch a risky attack on the imperial center. They are losing the war, a second DS is being built, and they need a decisive victory now to turn the tide of the war before it is finished. Time is running out!

The idea for Endor would be it's been a symbol of nature and peace for thousands of years but overpopulation on Coruscant is forcing the empire to clear it for settlement.

So, you can put some of those big Avatar front loaders knocking down trees and so forth. You could even edit in some of those shots of that huge open mine on Pandora as the spaceship flies over. This would be a quick visual example of how the empire is transforming the landscape. The human Pandoran base could become the generator base.

Dennis Muren?

Were the SE's rushed a bit to make the release date? Restoration aside, there were enough new shots across the OT to be equivalent to doing a entire new movie.

There must have been some pre-production work ongoing for TPM at the same time.

The Star Wars SE was not rushed. It was in the can by late '95-early '96. They worked on it for nearly two years plus. The other SEs were ordered once the SW SE trailer drew such a positive reaction.

Dennis Muren wasn't as heavily involved with the vfx regarding the SEs. He wasn't involved at all on the ESB and ROTJ ones(being involved instead with The Lost World) and he was a creative advisor on the SW one for the restoration and original fx elements. John Knoll, Joe Letteri, and Steve Williams were the main supervisors over the Yavin battle, Mos Eisley and Jabba scenes respectively.

Joe and Steve teamed up on the Mos Eisley and Jabba scenes, with Steve Willaims animating Jabba himself.

In fact, Steve Williams finished animating Jabba in late '95. After ILM developed better mouth syncing software for the film Dragonheart(came out in summer '96) Williams begged Lucas to allow him to go back and use that new software to improve the Jabba shots, but Lucas said it was "good enough".

Main problem with that scene is not its execution. It's that its wholly unnecessary. Greedo gives us the same amount of information as Jabba. Lucas cut it originally for good reason. That editing won an Oscar.

The SE was really Lucas' excuse to experiment with some of the new digital technology as he prepared for the prequels.

So episode one has Vader, who is the exact same guy as Maul but his name is Darth Vader instead. His look is the same as Maul.

It is revealed he's a former pupil of Kenobi who turned to the dark side. The jedi council have banned kenobi from further teachings as a result.

He's kind of down on his luck, sent out to the boonies to settle trivial trade disputes by the jedi as a result.

But on one of these trivial missions a larger conspiracy is revealed.

the trade federation have blockaded a small word of naboo over accusations of sheltering clone defectors, which naboo vehemently denies. naboo is invaded. leading this invasion is darth vader and mandalorian shock troops.

kenobi rescues the queen with the help of a refugee clone named Not Jar Jar binks.

they all escape.

Kenobi eventually makes it to the outer rim world where a teenage Anakin lives with his family, including step bro Owen Lars.

He sees Anakin as strong in the force. he tells him of their mission. Owen is skeptical. he thinks he and anakin need to stay behind and help the family run their little spice shipping business. but kenobi sways anakin and he decides to leave. this upsets owen to no end. eventually, owen reluctantly goes with kenobi and company to look after his little bro.

they decide to disguise their leaving by hopping aboard one the families old beat up spice freighter hunks of junk.

Before they leave, they run into darth vader, who is hunting down the queen of naboo.

they venture to coruscant. there kenobi meets his old friend and mentor, not master, qui-gon jinn.

Kenobi sees his chance to redeem himself by taking Anakin before the council to ask them to reconsider their ban on him training jedi. Jinn is skeptical.

Kenobi reveals to the jedi council he has encountered darth vader on tatooine.

The council revisits kenobi's failure with Vader and are incredulous he would think of repeating his mistake with anakin. This sets up conflict between kenobi and the jedi council, who have marked him as reckless and impulsive.

Kenobi is not allowed to train Anakin. Qui-Gon Jinn follows a despondent Kenobi out onto a jedi temple balcony to watch the sunsets.

kenobi breaks the bad news to anakin. owen assures anakin they can always go home and return to farming but anakin is wary. in the senate a debate rages over naboo. bail organa, senator and viceroy of alderaan introduced.

they all decide to go back to naboo. leading the way is anakin and owen as copilots of a vessel with the jedi and entourage onboard.

anakin executes a miraculous hyperspace jump in-between the federation blockade and the planet of naboo.

they land and the fight is on. but it's not three pronged.

everyone goes together. you have a small band of clone refugees, the jedi, and the queens entourage.

anakin is tired of being stuck in the freighter. he decides to take action. he waits until owen nods off under a tree and takes off with the ship. owen wakes in time to see his bro starting take off. he jumps into the ship just as the ship flies off. he thinks anakin is nuts.

they fly in the skies above theed city and begin providing air support for the entourage as they make their way into the city. once inside the hangar, the entourage and the clones go off from the two jedi, kenobi and qui ton as they begin to fight vader.

the queens entourage captures the trade viceroy. the siege is lifted.

vader kills qui gon, kenobi attacks, vader escapes.

over qui gons funeral pyre kenobi quietly assures anakin that he will train him and he will become a jedi.

a massive military parade of troops comes through thees as a going away celebration to fight the mandalores. anakin waves bye to the queen, who smiles. kenobi and anakin take off in their fighters along with owen, who pilots a larger vessel.

begun, this clone war has.

The saga is full of dualities and double meanings. Kenobi tells Luke that "Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force. he was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil."

Well, if Anakin assumes the namesake of Vader then he would become Darth Vader. This would also fit into the certain point of view talk Kenobi gives to Luke in ROTJ.

But in order for this to work I think it has to be a more Kenobi-centric trilogy. He has to be the main protagonist like Luke was for the OT. The resin for this is because if you make it all about Anakin then to somehow get to the "turn" and then sorta cheat it or imply it but not imply it might be too big a cheat.

If it's Kenobi-centered, then it's more about his reaction to things rather than the need to see those things explicitly

Maul's costume: think about how it mirrors Lukes in ROTJ.

Maul's costume would also change over a period of the three films to eventually be proto-OT Vader.

So when ROTJ rolls around Luke would have this black costume that might subconsciously evoke Maul in episode one. It would raise the tension just a bit. Is Luke going to follow the same path as original-Vader and his own father, later-Vader?

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

It's great these ideas are still floating around here. It's been a while since I posted but Ive been lurking for the last week and saw this forum and others talking about similar subjects regarding some radical prequel ideas.

Sorry but Im going to go on a bit of a tangent here.

*years* ago(literally) bingo, myself and perhaps some others talked about ways to try and preserve the Vader reveal for ESB.

My own idea was to somehow tie it into Vader as another character who has the name Vader because that's some title he is given because he kicks butt.

So when he dies and "Vader" emerges Anakin literally is now Darth Vader. It's like he takes the name of his fallen foe. Its a title somewhat.

So basically Vader, the original, replaces Darth Maul(the name). But if you were doing an edit you would still keep the character of Maul just not the name. Just change it to Vader.

It also makes Obi-Wan less of an outright liar. I understand why he thought he had to lie. But this is also to try and preserve the reveal in ESB.

The trick would be to do it so its really is tragic for Anakin. People would think he died. Others would not but they wouldn't feel cheated because it would be set up that Darth is a title. It could be short for DARk lord of the siTH

And Dooku should be this maverick jedi, like Qui-Gon, who leaves the order and everyone thinks he's bad. He's declared an outlaw by the republic.  But he's really misunderstood because he holds the secret just like in AOTC, that Sidious has infiltrated the republic government at the highest levels. That's why he wants to "start over" with government(as he says in the AOTC deleted scenes).

He should be far more ambiguous until the end of AOTC when he reveals all to Obi-Wan. Then Obi-Wan would be like "oh crap. By the way Dooku, the republic is coming to blow the crap out of this place. I have to stop it."

That could lead to Kenobi's first fight with Anakin.

Anakin shows up and he's like "Obi-Wan you've turned traitor!" But Kenobi is "No you don't understand." But its too late and they have a lightsaber duel.

The second film would end with Kenobi on the run from the Republic-in-name-only.

The Jedi are then split.

This is perfect for Palps. He can now play up the "some jedi are traitors" angle and gain greater control over the remaining loyal jedi on Coruscant.

He will then betray them in Ep 3 when he sends Vader to vanquish the entire jedi order.

This will be a result of Kenobi somehow notifying a jedi on Coruscant as to whats really going on. The loyal jedi then gets a couple of other of jedi that are convinced they've been duped by someone in the senate. They go to purge the senate and are denounced as fellow conspirators with the earlier outlaw jedi from AOTC.

If you wanted to be even more radical with Dooku, you would then merge the character of Dooku with Qui-Gon and make Qui-Gon this mysterious Lord Tyranus(so named by republic propagandists) in the opening crawl of AOTC. It would only be revealed who Tyranus really is when he drops his hoodie to Kenobi when Kenobi is imprisoned on Geognosis.

He also wouldn't be ordering the clone army. He would simply be building a droid army on Geognosis to counter the republic threat he now knows exists.

Imagine that meeting between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. It would mirror a bit Luke's shock at hearing Vader tell him the truth about his father. Not as powerful but that's how it should be. It should build in surprises throughout the saga.

Kenobi would be like "this can't be happening."

Qui-Gon: "search your feelings you know it is true.

Then Anakin and the "rescue party" would show up to destroy the separatist threat and the despicable Lord Tyranus.

It would be a great dilemma for Obi-Wan.

What will he do? Whose side will join?

Can Qui-Gon be fully trusted?

It would also throw the audience for a loop too because they would realize the good guys were really the "bad guys" all along.

We've been cheering for the wrong side!

Having said all that about Qui-Gon, I don't see how it could really be done though in an edit. Not enough footage.

But you could make that character Dooku. There is enough to do that.

The Lost 20 could even be a part of it too. These jedi have disappeared recently. They have been thought dead, missing, etc.

Some have recently died mysteriously on missions. Some are just outright gone.

But they show up at the end with Qui-Gon/Dooku. Qui-Gon has shown them the truth and they've joined him on this crusade to end the republic.

So now we have the jedi traitors vs the loyal jedi. It sets it up perfect for Palpatine to say in Ep. 3 "this jedi order is a little out of hand. I think we need to abolish it".

BTW, in SOTDS Amidala is actually born into royalty like Leia was. Through some clever editing I eliminated all references to her being "elected" and serving terms. In fact, Amidala is a queen throughout the PT, but she is also serving as senator (this was Magnoliafan's idea). I think this makes a whole lot more sense.

These are great changes.

I thought this shot looked pretty good to start. How was the landscape generated (if it was real world, where was it shot?) and how was the house made?

The shot is real world except for the "Naboo-ish" domes and some flora. That was generated by ILM's digimatte department. The rest is a location shot from Lake Como, Italy.

Marvolo
Guess what, not everything is the same as earth.

Yes, but our eyes are used to seeing stuff from earth, including colours, atmospheric haze, etc. Anything else looks foreign and thus, a little disconcerting to the mind's eye.

Guys, we don't want him to do too many redos or he'll never finish it.

What you've done ady is a great tribute to SW and fan edits in general. You've remained true to the source material while also filling in some gaps, correcting inconsitencies and enhancing the visual scope of the film.

This is the ultimate "special" edition by far.

Great job!

What if you guys used one of those pod race scavenger droids for the Maul recovery scene in the pit in TPM?

There's some pretty good shots of some in the extended podrace deleted scenes on the DVD.

Need new backgrounds though.

In fact, as I may have mentioned elsewhere, I think it's probably possible to get hold of Pete Serafinowicz for a modest fee to do the lines himself

Are you serious?

Another bloody edit of TPM (* unfinished project *)

ith, what if you moved the celebration to the start fo the film rather than the end? It could be some kind of "Naboo united" day or something.

Then, you cut to the invasion and opening battle, and you have the gungans rounded up by droids(for slave labor) and Jar Jar escaping and hiding in the forest.

Then you can do the whole core scene maybe later in the film when they return to the planet instead of up front.

adywan, I think the work you're doing is amazing and outrageous(in a good way).

And you seem to be carefully changing things for story purposes as well, not just the "wow" part of it.

I actually think this was the type of "special" edition we never got from Lucas.

Keep up the great work man. I can't wait for the adywan ROTJ edition.

"The Imperial Fleet getting destroyed in the shockwave is a great idea! The only inconsistency I see with that is how would the Rebel Fleet escape the explosion and the Imperials, being on the "far side of Endor," not?"

Maybe when the shields go down and the rebels move in, the imperial fleet forms a perimeter around the DS to protect it?
Ackbar tells the rebels to get the heck away but the imperials don't or too close to the DS when it blows up.
