Game of Thrones: Restored, Restructured, Rewatchable (Released)

On that matter, please accept my thanks for cutting this piece of completely unnecessary, distracting, out-of-place, and actually primitive and stereotypic content. This cut alone improved the edit tremendously. Cheers!

This really did all sound really good, but I’m sorry, you lost me by cutting Arya and Gendry’s love scene. I just don’t know why you did that. I don’t know why. I literally am not interested in this now. And that bums me out because this really did sound awesome. Oh well.

I think that’s a very petty reason not to watch the series, but hey, if that’s a deal breaker for ya, it’s your loss. The reason I cut it was simple – it was a forced, unearned fling…and a little creepy since Arya knew Gendry as a young kid and he’s a good bit older than her, in the show and in real life. They had one short trip together on the king’s road when they were young, but the writers are like, “sure, they know each other well enough…let’s have them hook up because they’re of age now and attractive”. They did try to create a little flirty tension when they reunited after so long, but it just felt like a forced story choice to me, even with humanity potentially on the line from the approaching dead army. Anyway, I hope you reconsider but if not, you can always watch Arya and Gendry go at it as much as you want in D&D’s original crap finale to the series. Cheers!

The Rings of Power - The Film Cut [Released - Workprint stages finished]

Please, may I inquire:
I do get the impression, editors are proud to hit some specific time markers, to get the edit fast paced and such things. I wonder, why this is not more of a secondary thing, and in the forefront it is about enjoyment and raising the overall quality (cutting stupid jokes, conversations, inconsistent character development etc.) … I mean, get the watching done in a time as short as possible it not the goal of consuming media unless the medium is a chore, so rather focus on getting rid of the choriness than of time, at least that is what I think …

For example (going into three of the subplots), the Dwarven parts feel quite dwarvish in my opinion, they appear truer to the books than all this pseudopolitical bickering and unnecessary subplots in Numenor, and the southland plot is horrible, people behaving inconsistent, stupid, un-Tolkienish and pseudo-modern … hence would it not be most enjoyable to cut down on the latter two, only transfering the essentials, but keeping most of the dwarven stuff, even if the movie is a little longer?

Samultra I rewatched those scenes you mentioned. I’m sure I can remove Paul saying he just woke up and not wanting to cooperate with voice practice.

In the scene with Leto it looks like it will be fine to remove Paul saying what if I’m not the future of House Atreides and leave the rest of the scene intact. I’ll see if I can remove Leto saying “either” when he holds up the ring. So Leto just says “I didn’t want this.” Instead of Paul doubting he’s the future of the House, the father is just assuming his son prefers to be a fighter. This will help bring it more in line with the Paul of the book.

And in rewatching the scene in the tent with his mother, I agree it would work much better without Paul shouting at her. I’ll plan on removing that. In fact, I will trim some of his squirming and kicking like an angry baby there too so he’s not acting like a little gen-z wimp.

I am blown away … this may become my favourite edit of the film (supposing more to come) 😉😄

samultra thanks for sharing your ideas. Below are my initial impressions:

  1. I agree. If feasible I’ll remove Paul’s obstinance.
  2. While I agree in principle about the scene with Leto, this is the only real bonding moment between father and son, albeit not from the book. Perhaps it will work to remove Paul’s doubt here but still have Leto give the fatherly pep talk. I’ll take a look.
  3. In the book Paul says he’s a freak but not like a baby for sure. I want to keep the scene with his mom somewhat intact but I’ll try and reduce all his whining about being used. I’m on the fence about him yelling at her bc this is the movie’s lackluster replacement of in the book Paul informing her she’s a Harkonnen.

I very much appreciate your considerations and understand your points of view. I am sure, you will considerably improve the movie with your plans 😉
Please, have a keen eye throughout the movie about such behaviour, especially on Paul’s part, I may not have remembered them all.

Dune (2021): The Mindkiller Cut (Released)

Hi, I am particularly interested in this edit.

As one who (of course not as the only one here I guess) has read nearly all of Dune including “The Dreamer …” and Frank Herberts biography, I have the impression, that especially Paul is not as he was intended to be. I would therefore suggest to change in particular following three scenes:

  1. When Jessica encourages Paul to use the voice in the beginning … They think, just because he is not in the mood for swordfighting in the scene with Gurney, that Paul is a capricious character, but that he is not. So he should not refuse in this scene and he generally should not be characterised as an unenthusiastic and obstinate fool thoughout the movie.
  2. When Paul and Leto talk about whether Paul wants to be Duke later … this is something, that may belong to THIS world (which is why the scene is in there), but not to Franks Herbert’s world … Paul is sure he will be Duke. See chapter six in the book.
  3. When Paul shouts at his mother in the desert … he wouldn’t. In particular, he would have known that he is raised Bene Gesserit style, he would not have characterised himself as “being used” or similar, this is the reaction of an infant.

Also, I don’t think one can do anything about that, but unfortunately Chalamet permanently tries to look stern and serious for the gravity of the Dune-universe and all the philosophy in it (I guess), but you can see, that he only plays it in many of his scenes.
