“This is what hope is. It isn’t pretending nothing will go wrong if only we try hard enough. It’s looking squarely at the obstacles in the way - knowing the limits of our own power, and the possibility of failure - and moving ahead anyway. That is how we must proceed. With hope.” - Jedi Master Stellan Gios

The Book Of Boba Fett (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *

I’ve seen a few complaints about the flashback scenes, but to me they essential are the story, and they inform so much about the character in the present. Boba is learning a lot about himself and his place in the galaxy. I love the self reflecting. I also enjoy learning more about the Tusken culture, at least of this one tribe. These little pockets of information are why I love that we’re getting these series. We’d never get this from a main saga movie.

Although I was never a fan of the Doctor Aphra comics (I read the first few volumes and found them just OK) it was really cool to see Black Krrsantan. It’s such a great design and he looks really fearsome in live action. I did really enjoy the one-shot comic where Obi Wan fights him, so it’ll be interesting to see what they do with him. Hopefully, and likely, to be more than just a cameo.

Is that confirmed? I thought it was him. I really hope it is. I think the Doctor Aphra comics are some of the best. I’m surprised she isn’t one of the first to get her own live action or at least animated series.

I also got some strong Lawrence of Arabia vibes from this sequence, and the end credits concept art pretty much confirmed that that was intentional.

I got that too. Very nice.

I did not expect the Tusken peyote trip. Nice to see some Force-vision type thing away from the Jedi, the Sith, etc. We’ll have plenty to theorize about for a while with that scene.

I think both of the first two episodes have a lot deeper symbolism than I’ve been able to pick up on the first time through. To me that’s the sign of great writing when I can rewatch something and get more out of it. I also love the communal experience that comes from listening to what other fans picked up on that i didn’t.

I compared escaping from the sarlacc to a rebirth of sorts. This vision seems like a continuation of that. He’s more than just a guy wearing his father’s armor and a fearsome bounty hunter. He wants more.

The Camie and Fixer cameo turned out exactly as I expected. It’s a fun little easter egg for SW fans, but to 99% of the audience they were just two civilians that needed to be saved from a swoop gang.

Same. I wonder if the original actors are still around. Can you imagine being cut from the first Star Wars movie. I think it would be nice if they at least got cameos somewhere in Star Wars, even of they’re just sitting at a bar or something.

Fallen Star reviews look pretty good over on Goodreads so far (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58652192), but I’ll know for sure when my copy is delivered today. Claudia Gray (Lost Stars, Master and Apprentice) is my favorite Star Wars author by far and I really liked her previous High Republic book, Into the Dark.

Boba is different. I’m not sure if emerging from the sarlacc is intentionally symbolic of a rebirth of sorts, but I’d imagine being swallowed alive by a monster but somehow surviving is enough to give anyone a new outlook on life. Plus we’re seeing that wasn’t even the end of his ordeal.

It looks like he still has some lingering physical issues and likely some form of PTSD. I think reinventing himself is a necessity at this point. We still see flashes of his brutality, but he’s trying something different now.

People often think they understand how to be the boss and manage people, but when they get into that role, they find out just how much they weren’t even aware of. I can’t wait to see if it all works out.

Thrawn or Xizor
Time

I prefer “Heir to the Empire” to “Shadows of the Empire,” but both are worth reading and both villains have great potential in Star Wars. We got more Thrawn in the animated Rebels series, and rumors are we could see him in live action in the future. I wouldn’t be surprised if Xizor made a similar jump very soon. I could see him showing up in “The Bad Batch” or “The Book of Boba Fett.”

Very glad that, even though this series is separating itself from The Mandalorian quite nicely, they’ve kept the idea of concept art in the credits. I absolutely love that.

Same here. I bought “The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season One)” and definitely plan on getting the season two book as well. At this rate I might have to get the one for this show too. Watching those end credits with Goransson’s score is so satisfying. I can’t say enough how much I love having these series and that more are coming.

A Long Time Ago... - Share Your Star Wars Story
Time

I was 4 years old in 1977, so I don’t really remember a time before Star Wars. I feel fortunate that my earliest memories are from that time and to have grown up during that initial craze.

I was 7 when The Empire Strikes Back was released and the AT-AT battle on Hoth just blew me away. There was just something special about seeing those walkers in the snow. It fueled my imagination so much. I was 10 by the time of Return of the Jedi but still not old enough to go see Star Wars as many times as I wanted or buy all the Star Wars figures I wanted. My parents had no appreciation for Star Wars or movies at all really.

Then came The Phantom Menace. I was 26 in 1999, living on my own, and had considerable disposable income. The hype for this movie was incredible. I went to Toys R Us at midnight and bought a ton of stuff. I stood in line all day to buy tickets and saw it so many times. I was a little mixed on the movie itself, but to be able to participate in all the things I wasn’t old enough to do when I was a kid was special to me. One of my fondest Star Wars memories.

Fast forward to now and I’m cosplaying as a Jedi for The Force Awakens, seeing all the movies in a marathon at a theater in Disney, and going to Celebration. Wish I could single out one precise moment when I discovered Star Wars, like the original post asks, but my experience has been different. For me, Star Wars has always been there, I just wasn’t always able to participate in it the way I wanted. Those times are gone. I’m fully immersed now! MTFBWY!

The Book Of Boba Fett (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *

My take is that Boba previously kept his helmet on more often and electronically disguised his voice somewhat to differentiate himself from the clones. I think he feels a little more free to take it off now, plus he probably has a new outlook on a lot of other things too after his ordeal.

The galaxy is so huge, how could someone be so famous that they’re recognized by sight in every town of every planet. His name and appearance are likely just very well known in certain circles. I’ve heard of Christiano Ronaldo, but I couldn’t pick him out of a lineup.

I wonder when that stormtrooper went into the sarlacc because we didn’t see that in RotJ. I would have liked to see the Jawas open up the sarlacc and pick through all the junk inside, kinda like Brody and Hooper did with that shark in Jaws. Just imagine what could be in there.

That was awesome.

I like how they’re getting all the setup out of the way rather quickly. He’s already out of the sarlacc and in Jabba’s palace. It was all explained sufficiently without dragging it out and we get to see him already out and about making his rounds as a new crime boss. I’m guessing in the next episode we’ll likely see another flashback to his time with the Tuskens while in the present getting to more of the main story.

Since it’s called the BOOK of Boba Fett, I wonder if the title of each episode will be named after a novel? Stranger in a Stange Land (Heinlein) is a sci-fi essential. Wonder if we could guess some of the others? The Man in the High Castle? The Caves of Steel? Brave New World?

Goransson knocked it out of the park again, but was there any doubt. He’s a genius, no hyperbole in that statement at all.

Now I have to go back and watch it again because I missed Matt Berry’s voice the first time.
