General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

Some thing I just thought of. Some one may have already thought of it but I am not a kid nor do I have kids so I did not think of it. I was watching a video of a kid reacting to “I am your father”. The description said the kid had seen I, II, Clone wars Series, IV, V, VI, rebels. So he skipped Ep III. Now I,II,IV,V, and VI are all PG. EP III is PG13. Technically a kid should not see EP III until they are older. I wonder if G.L. thought of this?

Collaborative 35mm restoration proposition
Time

OK I think I have a better understanding of the new project now.
I came on to OT.com and I found out about T-1 and I thought “its all over!”
I panicked and became an idiot.
The Collaborative idea of many people working on say no less than 3 frames each
(1 frame & the 2 frames on either side) sounds like an idea I have herd before but I do not know where. I would like to no if there are scans available for all 3 movies. And if there are
scans from multiple prince in case some one wants to try some mike verta Magic on very ugly frames like the Vaseline landspeeder shot.

Team Negative1 - Star Wars 1977 - 35mm Eastman Vs Technicolot Theatrical Version (* unfinished project *)
Time

Hay there. Long time no post. Just wondering how close to completion the
T-1 trilogy is?

I had really hoped that by now the internet speeds in my area would have gotten better.

But sadly I am still stuck with 1.77 mbps at best. That being the case what are the chances of getting some HD MP4s? And can MP4s have 5.1?

Star Wars GOUT in HD using super resolution algorithm (* unfinished project *)
Time

OK thanks for the answer, I was just curious. Too bad it would not really help much.

Watching SD content is getting harder. You can't buy a new SD TV anymore.

I have a 32” 720P LCD that I can get SD to look good on if I tweak the settings just right and sit far enough away from it. But if 4K becomes standard I am not sure how bad SD will look on it.

wait hold on

I looked up that Dark Energy Pro software.

Its amazing.

As for Grain on optical, I would say it would vary depending on the shot.

For example the Vaseline land speeder shot, is vary bad, and mite benefit from a bit more clean up, so it would not stick out so badly.

I can understand the space ship shots having some ruff Grain.

Its there because of the optical work, but it actually ads to the realism.

It makes it look like old stock footage, like it an old war movie.

Especially when you consider this.

Help: looking for... 1997 Special Edition Trilogy 5.1 Audio?

It's worth considering whether the 1997 DTS Cinema mix is preferable to the newest, 2011 mix. If anyone really wanted to "despecialize" the soundtracks, the 2011 mixes would be significantly easier to work with, for most people, and offer discrete LFE and surround channels.

Interesting.

I was thinking the 1997 DTS Cinema mix would be best as it has stuff like

ANH Original Krayt Dragon Call
ESB original Emperor, voice and the original Boba Fett voice
ROTJ would have no. “No Nooooo!”

Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released)
Time

Sorry off topic but...

Seeing how the Team Negative1 trilogy is intended to replace the GOUT.

I've been trying to think of an acronym for the Team Negative1 trilogy.

Here is what I have come up with.

The Digital Original Unaltered Trilogy

The DOUT

Why Digital? because the Original Unaltered Trilogy has never been digital.

You mite say isn't the GOUT DVD digital? Which is true in a way but it

comes from an old analog video master. The Team Negative1 trilogy, comes directly from film.

You could call it the Remastered Original Unaltered Trilogy.

The ROUT.

But I looked up rout and got this.

An assembly of people who have made a move toward committing an illegal act...”

Not something we what this to be named.

Personally I really like The DOUT. Because it sounds like, doubt.

Before the Negative1project started nobody would have believed that it was possible,

for anybody to scan an old 35mm print and restore it.

Idea & Info: Detail Preserving Upscale GOUT
Time

I like this CRT Emulation idea. I saw something like this on an emulator for old video games,
and thought it mite be cool for watching old SD video on an HD TV. Cool to see some one is doing it.
Is much better than my method. Which involved playing the GOUT on my PS3 at super low resolution, so it was window boxed.
And then using my HD camera to zoom in on the tiny box and record it.

You know it actually looked better than the GOUT normally does, but it had problems.

Before anyone asks I did not do the full movie just some samples.
