How would the GOUT look upconverted on a BluRay player?
Time
I use a PS3 for Blu-rays and a lot of my SD DVD upscaling, but it doesn't have a good way to "zoom" in on letterboxed DVDs like the GOUT. The Xbox 360 has several zoom and stretch(yuck) modes. I watched the entire GOUT last week with my 360, which is hooked to a 46" 1080p Samsung LCD with HDMI. It's quite watchable. It's grainy, but that doesn't bother me too much. You will see some "jaggies" at times, mostly due to zooming in on the non-anamorphic picture. It certainly doesn't look like any Blu-ray, HD-DVD, or even halfway decent upscaled DVD but like I said, it's watchable and quite enjoyable.

2006 DVD OOT
Time
I actually just watched the Star Wars disc last night on my 46" Samsung LCD. The grain doesn't bother me as much as the anamorphic issue. We've seen how removal of grain and other "cleaning up" can actually harm a film when overdone. When you have to zoom in on a 4:3 letterboxed picture you see some jaggies and pixelization. I really hope we get a respectable release of the OOT on Blu-ray sometime.

2004 DVD crap-o-la
Time
The original ewok song is so cool. I used to have the ROTJ record when I was a kid. What was, no is, so great about it is the way that the end sort of unravels and segues into the theme for the credits so seamlessly. Perfect. Of all the changes made for the SEs, RotJ got it the worst. Jabba's palace becomes just another Pixar-esque kid's movie. Complaints aside, I've always said I would have no problem with the changes as long as the OUT was also available. In fact, I say change as much as possible. It's fun. The offensive part was attempting to replace the real movies with that trash.

Star Wars out next year???????
Time
Also the music compression rate was lower in the 80's so I have to crank my player up to 21-22 to get a good loud sound (as opposed to the typical 18-19 for a normal CD).

That's actually a good thing. Throughout the years they've tended to increasingly raise the levels while mastering CD's. This can cause distortion and "muddiness." It's better to amplify a slightly quieter source than to record too loud. A lot of people don't realize that a lot of newer remastered versions of CDs are actually inferior to older versions for this and other reasons. Not that I'm a big audiophile or anything but I do some mixing and I suppose I care about this type of thing more than most.

No Episode III on VHS
Time
As someone else said, VHS is dying fast as a new release format. Digital video recording is going a lot of different directions, but once the average consumer understands their options as far as DVRs and recordable media, it's over. A foul screen pan & scat (sic) DVD is more useless than a VHS however. Please stop making them. Vinyl rules, I really prefer analog when it comes to music and I like mixing and scratching with records. Not to mention a lot of re-releases of older albums are mastered wrong nowadays.

Back to the original topic... I don't own any of the PT on VHS, and I don't want them. But I would assume that there a lot of people out there with 5 Star Wars Tapes on their shelf who would buy ROTS just to complete the set, even if they never watched it. Why would LF not want people buying 2 formats on the first day? Heck, put it out on Super 8, VCD, beta max, cave drawings, etc... We're nerds! We'll buy them!

Of the six Star Wars movie which is your LEAST favorite?

When I first watched AOTC, I just couldn't watch TPM the same way, it felt so bad by comparison, and so far away from anything closely resembling SW. Then I watched ROTS, I can't watch AOTC anymore, I just can't, it's just horrible. So, thankfully, there will be no "episode 3 and a half", so ROTS is the only prequel I can watch from begining to end. But that makes TPM the worse of them all.

That's congruent with my experience, ricarleite.

Clubbing

Wow - 20 bucks for a drink. When I was younger, I used to buy a 12 pack of black label beer for like 5 bucks. Of course, now it's been almost 3 years since I had a drink or any other drugs. I never liked going to clubs unless I was already drunk. I used to go to First Avenue (Minneapolis) a lot, but that was usually because I liked the DJ or something.

i wonder what people would do if gorge reshot ep 4 throu 6 with new actors and CGI all so that it flowed right with the PT.

give him time, he's halfway there...

I always said if they released both versions, I'd like to see the SE's "updated" as much as possible. Why not? It'd be kinda fun. Problem is, he's not going to release the OT. Oh Well, as long as I have my TR47 DVD's...

The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
Ok - I've been here about a week now and this is my first post. I just got my TR-47 7 disc set (and holiday special) last night. Much sooner than I expected. The girlfriend and I just watched ESB - Wow. I was pretty impressed with the caliber of this transfer. Now I'm really excited about the next project.

'Nuff props to Cowclops, TR47, Rikter, and everyone else to whom we owe our appreciation. It's good to know this scene is out here. I think the special editions are interesting in their own way, but not without the originals being available. It was nice to hear Boba's real voice, etc. Can't wait to print some cover art and slap these boys up on the shelf!

Anyway, thanks again to TR47 for the really fast shipping, and I want to say I'm glad to be part of the community.
