Harmy's Despecialized Star Wars 1977 - Color Adjustment Project for v2.7 (released)

There is an mkv release on spleen for 2.7. Look for “Harmy’s STAR WARS DE: 2.7 Remastered (MKV)”.
If you searched for “despecialized” it would not have come up in the search results.

My hero! Thanks a ton, dunno if I would have gotten around to checking without using “despecialized” somewhere in the search.

I also found one on…that other site…but it didn’t have the standard readme.tt etc so it’s nice to get something that looks SLIGHTLY less sketchy lol

So I got this forever ago with the 1981 “A New Hope” crawl, and recently decided I think I’d prefer the 1977 crawl.

I see on myspleen there’s some “2.6 with towne32 color corrections” but that is NOT the same as 2.7 right?

There’s torrents for 2.7 but only as blu rays which I’m not really looking for. Is the multipart rar thing the only good option at this point? I’ve alway just torrented the various updates from myspleen in the past

Info Wanted: 4K versions vs. DEED (Despecialized Editions) - which is better and why?
Time

So my question is, colorwise, is 4k83’s colors kinda “off” because of what they need to do for theaters, or are the DEED (and blu-ray) colors kinda like, artificially sweetened to look more like modern movies? I also suspect I’ll prefer the despecialized in the long run, and probably prefer it to 4K83 based on my initial look, but 4k77 DNR looks amazing

Yeah I get that they’re different projects, I just wasn’t sure which way is more like, Authentic or whatever, though again I guess that’s different too. I guess maybe my question is, is the film’s color slightly “off” or is the blu-ray etc sort of artificially sweetened?

And yeah I thought it looked a little brighter during the bright scenes, like a lot of the Jabba stuff, just darker in some others. Maybe my laptop is weird but the Luke/Ben scene is WAY darker and bluer than the Desp.

So I got this yesterday and compared it to Despecialized and some of the darker scenes (luke & ghost ben, throne room) look way darker and bluer and like, to my untrained eyes, not quite as good, but are those colors more accurate? the ben scenes look appropriately moodier but the throne room just looks darker in a way that looks off when I go to it from the Desp. Also used the Luke/Yoda scene to test and felt like it was also kinda similar. Would love any insights

for the record i can’t stand the special editions lol

i just like the other non-prequel films and it bugs me if SW77 is the only one without the episode number, plus that original crawl DOES look off to me because it’s not what my vhs had.

i certainly understand preferring the original though, and the value of historically preserving it. it just sucks cause i feel like people either fall into “don’t care about the changes”, or “only want the original theatrical 77 version” and it’s tough being not QUITE in one camp or the other when the ONLY change I like is the 81 crawl

boy that escalated quickly, lol

yeah if anyone ends up making the 81 version, let me know or make a new thread or something!

i know it’s not the ORIGINAL, but that’s the version i grew up with on VHS, plus it’s a small change that makes it match the other 2 movies so I really don’t mind it as a change. but certainly i know that’s not the point of most of these restorations, it would just be nice to have the option if someone with the skills and inclination makes it 😃

and yeah i’m definitely rockin that ANH 2.7 😃

that’s actually the main thing keeping me from switching to the SSE or this
