timewise doesn't make sense that it was the probe

now if ady wants to edit the timing of things to make it fit that it was the probe it's gonna take some pretty good editing

also i think it would be too dumb of the empire to send out thousands of probe droids looking for the rebel base that aren't capable of detecting human life, they should be able to detect pretty much anything in a given range, that's their only function, the com traffic may have been encrypted but there should have been no com traffic on hoth therefore would have been reported

i'm just saying the fact that the probe droid doesn't approach luke and the wampa adds to the case of it not being just a few hundred yards away at that time - and it is conspicuously absent through the whole of the rescue of luke and han. if it had been around it would have recorded the transmissions broadcast from zev and the other rogues (commander skywalker do you copy? captain solo do you copy?) and transmitted them to the empire rather than just an image of a power generator. it didn't do it coz it wasn't in that area at the time.

what are the chances of it landing within spitting distance of vaders number one target when it would have had a vast (maybe planetwide)area to cover

if it was the probe droids impact luke saw, wouldn't the probe droid have come to have a look at the lifeforms it would have detected so close by?

thanks ripplin, i won't be tackling the laser colour change as a proper project
it was just something to test the water with and see what i can do
despite me posting the pic and vid, i'm not that bothered about the colour

 just keen to help keep the thread alive while ady's away

i recently got myself a new pc with the power to have a crack at my own fanedits
now all i have to do is learn what ady knows so very well

anyway just as a challenge to myself i knocked this up
it's only 6 seconds long but took me about 12 hours to do (including learning time of about 8 hours)
hopefully i'll get a bit faster as i go

just for those who want to see an AT-AT shooting green

for some reason couldn't get it to appear in preview so posted link as well

incidently i'm pretty good with photoshop - but this colour change was a bitch
the filter that changes the red to green also changes blue to red
so where the green of the red of the laser meets the blue of the sky the feathering on the mask is crazily hard to get right
and to do the same on a moving target would certainly drive me nuts - so i think ady's decision to leave alone is a sensible one

i actually ended up wiping the lasers out and redrawing them from scratch

i just asked ady a throwaway question because i had no other questions or opinions about empire that haven't been covered many times over - to be fair it's really only ady's answer on what he considers eu i'm after - if he cares to give it (i expect it will be that he will consider it eu and disregard it)

i guess the truth is that there's so little wrong with empire that we're just looking for stuff to talk about and keep this thread moving everyday

although i posted quite a few times on anh:r, i've hardly posted on this thread but i love reading updates and hearing other fans opinions, whether i agree with them or not. it sometimes gives a new angle on a scene that iv'e watched hundreds of times, and keeps it fresh

some of us do like the eu, and while i understand and respect ady's preference to not including any eu additions i was just really looking for clarification on whether this would still count as eu to him, as outrider was shown leaving tatooine in anh:se.

a lot of people have expressed a desire to see the escape from hoth given a touch of the battle of yavin treatment, it's just something more to look at that does have an (albiet tenuous) reason for being there - hell, ady could even destroy the ship as a middle finger to the eu if that's how he feels about it. his shout entirely as always.

i came across another you tube alt ending where instead of orbiting yavin until 4th moon was in range

tarkin ordered them to blow away yavin itself

so they could have a clear shot at the 4th moon without the half hour wait

laughed my ass off! genious!

of course being a true sw fan i have to believe that the death star mk1 couldn't fire two planet destroying shots that close together
or i may suffer from a negative reality inversion!

Darknikos -  if you can get enough cooks on board you could really turn out something way above what you have already planned

someone recolouring, a couple doing cut outs, more filling in backgrounds and removing speech bubbles etc. a couple of animators, an editor, more working on sound

seems to me there are a lot of talented people on these boards  - a lot of who are repeating each others work (how many prequel edits are there anyway?)
if all that talent worked together who knows what can be achieved - your idea could be turned into an animated movie of sorts (maybe not on a par with the new clone wars animation - but something worthwile anyway)
