Shea 1979 Bootleg VHS restoration (pre-ANH lettertbox widescreen) (Released)
Time

Just checking into the thread to say hi. I will let those who know what they are doing discuss the Shea 79 Bootleg as I am just a novice when it comes to preservation and variation knowledge. If you have any questions about the tape itself or anything not too technical, just ask.

I want to thank Puggo for his effort in preserving this video.

Info: POSSIBLY FOUND - Star Wars A New Hope Technicolor I.B. dye transfer print - random post on reddit
Time

A few weeks ago a thread on Reddit was started by some one who apparently has reels 2-6 of an I.B. Tech. print of Star Wars.

Yes, there are pics and they are GLORIOUS.

Surely someone here has got word of this print, but if not…

This would be incredible source material for a preservation.

I have PhotoDroid's tape now and will start a new thread after I've had a look at it. Any suggestions for the name of the project? I think "Shea'79 bootleg" sounds nice.

Puggo have you had chance to view what was on PhotoDroid's tape? Any initial findings to share?

 Hi Frank,

Puggo has finished the capture and he has some ideas of what could be on the tape I sent. I'm not an expert so I can't speculate. I know it was letterboxed and I had it in early 1980, which thrilled me to no end.

Do you know if these sort of tapes are hard to come by or or they common?

Thanks,

PhotoDroid

Info Wanted: The New Explorers PBS documentary Series episode "In a Galaxy Far, Far Away" - anyone done a preservation?
Time

Hi,

I just got the tape in the mail. It's a brand new video, so it should make an excellent digital transfer. I am un able to make a VHS capture to digital, so if anyone is interested I'd be glad to mail it out for the transfer.

Here are links to pictures of the video

I just ordered a VHS this week     http://www.amazon.com/New-Explorers-Bill-Kurtis-Galaxy/dp/B000CEMBRE/     Bill Kurtis hosted a PBS Series called “The New Explorers”     In an episode from 1995 titled “In a Galaxy Far, Far, Away”      Bill Kurtis discusses how ILM special effects techniques were used to create medical spin-off applications.     It’s really interesting. Do you know if this program been digitized by the OT community?

Wow, this could be another awesome find - have you had chance to cross reference what it looks like compared to other versions? Maybe you could take 2 or 3  photos from the first five minutes and post them up to show what it looks on the screen?

Hi Frank,

>Maybe you could take 2 or 3  photos from the first five minutes and post >them up to show what it looks on the screen?

Sure, no problem. Please give me a day or so. How about the Greedo Subtitles. and maybe something else as well. Give me specific scenes, things to look for that would be of interest. I am a rank amateur when it comes to the different prints.

ALL I KNOW is that the SE gives me the hives. I (accidentally) put in ESB SE (from the 2 disc retail set) and I nearly stroked out when I saw Zev with blood on his face.

>have you had chance to cross reference what it looks like compared to >other versions?

I have not. Please tell me some give-away stuff to look for as I stated above.

Considering the source, it is my firm belief that this is from a bonafide film chain source and not a camera/tripod affair.

Yeah Yeah Yeah Star Wars is definitely on the tape.

Shea recorded Battlestar Galactica off of HBO (in 1980) AFTER the Star Wars recording. See the record dates and the white-out? Anything recorded over would have been white(d) out?

So It's obviously Recorded in LP Mode.

What gets me is that is was RATHER UNREMARKABLE to Shea and her husband to have a copy of Star Wars and record it in LP Mode

I guess it really wasn't a big deal for them?? How much were blanks 25.00+??

Hi,

I have a bootleg of Star Wars I received from a family friend named Shea who was married to a person in "the business". What may be of further interest is that there is a record date of 17 June 1979 on the label.

Pictures of the  Cassette are here

Shea's initials SB are on the label.

It is widescreen. It has been years since I've viewed it.

Any interest?
