Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread

I’m making a 3 in 1 of the trilogy once TROS is available, my goal is to center it more around the original characters, with Rey as a viewpoint character sort of like Anakin in TPM or Luke in ANH. But I also really want to focus on the relationship between Leia, Han and Ben. The problem is there are a lot of subplots that will have to go, I’m trying hard to include Finn and Poe too, but probably in smaller roles. As for Maz, I really want to include her, since she is the only main new alien character in the sequels so far, and I think Star Wars needs that.
My edit won’t be a definitive cut because of all of this, more of a experiment.
A Kylo centric version would be very interesting though, sort of a reverse version of the prequels.

this can also work and agreed supporting cast will have to be sidelined unfortunately due to time and the subplots just not being interesting.

this trilogy really needed an alien antagonist to weave through the films as a recurring villain. Something different than a gangster or a bounty hunter, but cunning alien adversary with enough prowess and charisma to keep Poe and Finn busy while Rey was off on her own journey.

wonder if anyone is willing to do Ben Solo: a Star Wars Story focusing on and constructed around mainly Kylo/Ben’s scenes (and scenes which pertain to him less directly for context’s sake) from existing ST footage once all 3 films are available on Blu. Could be a lean/interesting beast of a film, free of subplots.

This would be an interesting idea! I have had this idea of doing a stylized 3-in-1 edit following Rey’s journey, and rescoring the film with music from Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, and others. Seeing a Kylo-centric version would be cool to see too.

nice. maybe even a film which cuts subplots and manages to be something which parallels kylos and reys arcs entirely could work strongly too (for instance tlj edits which do this are really good imo). ReyLo A Star Wars Story??

Mandy - Maven48 edit (Released)
Time

I think what makes Mandy unique and not run of the mill is precisely its meandering, unessential but immersive elements, throwaways, and lewd gags. Beyond the Black Rainbow on the other hand could possibly be enhanced by certain trims and an audio upscale to increase the dialogue volume in many scenes where it was (likely intentionally designed to be) barely audible. No offense to this fan edit, ofc. Just a friendly criticism.

Figure out a way to omit all Maz scenes (which should have originally gone to Lando instead) from both TFA and TLJ. Edit Hans TFA dialogue to omit reference to Maz when Rey and Finn asks where he’s taking them. Restructure TFA cantina scene so that it appears that Hans has brought Rey here to find the basement and the lightsaber on her own.

I think 4 and 5 can be easily skipped. They’re lower quality episodes as far as acting and direction. I think if Dune reunites w/ Mando, it’ll be obvious enough that they have had an amicable history that you wouldn’t really need to have seen ep 4 to figure out. Don’t think I’d ever be able to sit through 4 or 5 again. But 1-3 were quality adventures. Holding out hope for that level to pick back up.

Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Kind of wish these three films were focused on the Knights of Ren being the main villains, after luring/indoctrinating Ben/Kylo from Luke their sole goal is to resurrect Palps and that’s made clear from the get go. But I know that’s not the case and I’m just along for the casual ride at this point. Just bringing back Palps rather that obsessively attempting to bring him back and releasing some more powerful ancient evil is a bit too on the nose but I’m sure it’ll be entertaining enough. The one thing that feels unnecessary is (if leaks are correct) killing off Ben/Kylo. I’d like to see them pull off something different and just have him go his own way, gray, not redeemed, not slain, not completely good but changed, regretful, melancholic.

My prediction is that the first 3 eps and maybe the last two eps (last 3 eps if I’m being optimistic) of this season are important to the narrative, while 4,5, and possibly 6 will serve as filler. Looking forward to a 2hr15min. fan edit of this season more than having to view this episodically tbh.
