Also, trying to find a coherent explanation of the nature of the Force across the whole Star Wars franchise or the trilogies is pointless, since in Star Wars the Force is treated as a psychological activity (believing in yourself) while in Empire the Force is more comic-like. You may argue SW Vader did not really Force-choke Admiral Motti, he merely suggested to Motti the idea of being telephatically choked, and that SW Obi-Wan didn’t really use mind-control, but there’s no way you can say TESB Luke convinced a few stones to ignore physics. The prequels weren’t the first Star Wars movies to make massive retcons and changes.

From the beginning, the Force has been a religion: a belief system, a spiritual understanding of how the universe works - not a psychological activity. It was expounded upon in ESB, but did not contradict itself.

If we chalk up ESB Yoda to being wrong along with everything else in the PT

Where exactly does ESB match the prequels at all?

I’m not saying that ESB and the PT match. I’m saying that TLJ claims that the prequel Jedi were wrong - but in order to make sense of the ST version of the Force, we have to also hold that the OT was wrong. (3 different versions of the Force) And that’s something I don’t want to do.

(here’s my understanding of the Force from the OT - http://numasprings.com/force-star-wars-explained/ )

The problem with many of these explanations of the Force in the ST, is that they have to ignore the understanding that Yoda gave us in ESB. If we chalk up ESB Yoda to being wrong along with everything else in the PT as explained by TLJ, then it could make sense… but that’s something I don’t want to do. 😃
Because even if we do, who’s to say that in 3 movies from now we won’t get another “Well, actually… Luke and Yoda were wrong in TLJ about the Force and the Jedi and THIS is really how it is…”

We’ll never have a firm foundation if we don’t use the OT - and the ST went too far away from that foundation to be logically consistent, therefore it feels like expensive fanfic to me. 😕

Adywan, every time you post up a pic I’m amazed to see the passion you have through the level of detail in the changes. I selfishly appreciate your passion, obviously, but also highly respect it and am impressed nonetheless.

Thank you sir! Looking forward to relishing in ESB:R in all its glory whenever you think it’s ready!

I guess my question regarding how Adywan (or anyone) plans to keep Vader’s reveal a secret with that one line in ANH (and as others have brought up, a lot more is there) is what started this.

I think a better story can be told if you’re not dancing around keeping things hidden for a reveal later. However whatever Adywan decides, I wish him the best - he’s already given me more with the OT than I ever could have expected… It’ll be near impossible for him to make the prequels worse, so I’m not too worried… 😉

Oh but I wasn’t answering to you with my post! Infact, You posted your text while I was writing mine.

I still don’t understand what reason would be strong enough to completely rewrite of half the saga to keep one moment safe.

I think the PT does need to be completely rewritten… because they suck.

Personally, I don’t think we need to keep any secrets hidden for reveals in the OT.

I asked the original question because some people (even someone major in my Star Wars movie watching life, Adywan) want to have the viewing order 1-6 but still keep the Vader/father reveal for ESB; but it’s ruined in ANH, and I don’t see a way around it. I would like the PT re-written, but not trying to keep any secrets hidden.

I think it would make a worse story if you’re trying to fulfill both goals at the same time. Just make the prequels a good story that you watch after the OT, and you’re golden.

I thought Ken’s thank-you was essential.
I throws the audience into thinking he might need help going home and shows Ken’s world view to be utterly twisted by his Master’s teachings.
He genuinely find’s Han’s sacrifice to be ‘helpful’ and thanks him sincerly.
That’s really F&*ked Up! In a good way.

That’s my issue: the only reason Kylo would say “Thank you” is because Han did something that was helpful. The struggle was the moral and emotional decision, not the physical distance. Han made this struggle more difficult to overcome, so a “Thank you” feels out of place.

If there was no emotional struggle and Kylo just walked up and stabbed him, a “Thank you” would be a perfect line.

Personally I thought the movie was fantastic overall - a soft reboot of the franchise, but a darn good one. I’ve liked it more the more I’ve thought about it, and it’s definitely rekindled my love of Star Wars.

1. Have Finn fight with Captain Phasma on Takodana. This would increase the tension between the two characters as well as add to her prestige. (first time we see a stormtrooper fight with a melee weapon is this special character)

2. Remove Kylo Ren’s “Thank you” to Han after Kylo stabs him. I think even in the midst of the act, Kylo needs to be in emotional, traumatic hell. Han did NOT make the act any easier whatsoever - and in fact, he made it a million times harder… Kylo was hoping that Han would ridicule or talk down to him, say what a failure he was, etc… THAT would have made killing Han easier and a “Thank you” would be useful. But as it stands, Han was an unconditionally loving father in this scene. Only after Han starts to fall (or even after catching up with Finn and Rey) should Kylo’s resolve start to solidify. The “Thank you” line completely jerked me out of the moment and is the biggest, easiest change I would make.

3. Shorten the lightsaber battle between Finn and Kylo. I know Kylo is hurt and Finn has been trained with martial weapons, but this was still a bit too long.

4. Trim a lot of the fan service lines. Most are forced actually detract from the film.

I watched the video on youtube from Belated Media on “What if the prequels were good” and it got me thinking… With Obi-wan’s line: “…Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine before he turned to evil… betrayed and murdered your father.” how can the prequels ever be watched before ESB? I can’t think of a way to get around this while still watching the Episodes chronologically… Unless you don’t care about the Vader reveal.

Has anyone commented on this or found a way around it?

Personally, watching them 4-6 and ignoring 1-3 is my favorite way to watch the saga right now…

Hey thank you so much for everything! It’s been a blast catching up with all the news, and am so excited for everything. I was wondering if you all have seen “The Star Wars Prequels are Secretly Brilliant?” I enjoyed it so much and don’t wanna assume everyone has. It could be some solid inspiration for your prequel ideas…
Hope y’all enjoy!

The movie's already there...He has no reason to redo every single frame, make Dagobah miniatures, and such.

Every time I read comments like this, I keep picturing myself in the van on the way to get ice cream...

You see, we're poor and live far outside the city, so we never get to have ice cream in town - but when we do, it's a real treat!  I look forward to it every time, no matter how long it takes to get there.  I'm so excited!

We're in the car for a while, the beautiful scenery is passing by outside the window, and all I can think about is how great this ice cream is gonna be!  I know it's taking a while, but man, it's gonna be so good!

However, I have a little brother sitting next to me... He is a little bit more selfish than I remember myself being at that age...  Always wants everything handed to him on a silver platter right when he asks for it.  It's quite a pain, really... (you know how it is, I'm sure...)

Then he starts...

"Are we there yet?"

'Oh no' I think... not this... not now...

"Not yet, honey, it's still a while - just sit back and enjoy the view.  Think about what flavor you're going to get while you wait!"

A few minutes goes by in silence...

"Are we there yet?" he asks again.

"Not yet..."

A few minutes later...

"Are we there yet?"

I can see the frustration in my parents - through the backs of their heads.

"Not yet, sweetheart, just stop asking - we'll get there when we get there."

The tension is palpable...

Please God... don't let him ask again...

"Are we ther..."  My brother starts to ask but my father interrupt him.

"That's it!  I'm turning around, no one's getting ice cream!"

...

So everyone in the future please... Don't make Adywan turn the car around...  The ice cream is totally worth the long drive: just sit back, enjoy the ride, and shut up.

Hmm scientific you say...

The glasses have lenses with polarizing filters, which are turned perpendicular to each other, so when you look through both, all light is blocked. These lenses are needed for the 3D head-up display.

Ahhh, makes total sense... yes, the 3D display would require special lenses... thanks!

Dangit Ronster... that's the first time I noticed the black background in the lenses where it should be a distorted view out the window on the other side...

Cannot... unsee...

Someone please give me a "scientific" reason why it's supposed to look that way so I can breath easily again...

The Dagobah miniature is about to get filmed. Some last little tweaks with the lighting, especially the rear illumination, then to fill the room with smoke and start shooting. This is just a quick hand-held test shot and not a representation of how it will appear in the finished version. (Click on image to view it full size)
