Besides, there is something wrong with the compression, because the pans are really weird.
Where exactly did you see those problems? The only thing I can think of right now are the crane-shots in the outdoor scenes, because for those we had to use an (inferior) HDV cam.
You might want to download the full-quality MKV (you can find the link in the video description) to check if the problem is still there.
Choppy movements, at 1.11, 1.16 and 4.22. But I downloaded the high quality file and all of the three mentioned camera movements are smooth. So it's a Vimeo recompression problem.
Congratulations again :)
Really excellent! Way above amateur level. The only thing I did not like was the chosen framerate, which negates a bit the widescreen cinema effect.
Besides, there is something wrong with the compression, because the pans are really weird.
All the rest (costumes, special effects, camera angles, editing, color correction, locations, lighting) was really, really good, imho. Thank you very much, I had a lot of fun watching it! :)
Somehow last year I missed the part about smileboxing movies.
I made a post about it over at hometheaterforum: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topic/318892-70mm-film-transfer-to-bluray-using-smilebox-simulated-curved-screen/page-2#entry3895740
I even made a (crappy) video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3GpFcn-yXg
It can be easily done in real time using this program: http://www.fly.elise-ng.net/immersivedisplaylite2

While reviews of the current BD are good, the aspect ratio is NOT theatrical, measuring 2.24:1 instead of 2.39:1. Dunno why.
It seems to be due to laziness. The 2k master is 2048x858 (2.39) and instead of doing a proper rescale, they've cropped the edges off to make it 1920x858 (2.24).
*headdesk*
Edit: Just tried the iTunes download and it's in the wrong aspect too.
As long as the master is the same for the DCP, that is what they always do with every movie. The ones in the "correct" 2.39 AR on the BD are simply further cropped (vertically) down to 1920*806, so we end up losing 12% of the picture. Check out the BD of Raiders of the lost ark. Nice crap, huh?
This japanese laserdisc is apparently unedited:

A really great job! Thank you for this and your other releases!
Thank you from me too. Really appreciated.
By the way, the quality is absolutely excellent, and makes you wonder why anyone would mess with something so sharp and of such high quality. Grain is really moderate and non-intrusive.
One little things I noticed, though, is that pans tend to be jerky (especially during the clocks scene at the beginning). It it just my pc?
Thanks again :)
I'm very interested too!
Too bad :( Anyway, thank you for the update :)
A little update on what's going on would be nice...
@www12345
Thank you so much for the upload of reel 3! It's already beautiful!
Hi.
I snatched it, and it's really impressive, pq wise. I had no chance yet to check the audio part.
I am seeding it on a very fast seedbox (505 mbit up and 4.43 ratio as we speak), and will seed for some time, so grab it now!
And by the way, thank you Andrea, fellow italian, for the wonderful work, that in my opinion will open a completely new and exciting way to transfer old video material to a new life :)
This is not a single frame scan, as you say you want to do, yet the results from 8mm seem to be of a very high quality.
Besides, it seems really easy to do, so it could be a backup solution (worst case scenario).
These are the results he obtains:
Hope this helps :)
Thank you VERY MUCH for this clip. It looks stunning!
Should you ever manage to make a copy, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not crop it in any way, the way Disney always does. Anyway, it is an absolutely amazing print you have there!
(Oh, and by the way, hi to all! Really beautiful forum here! :) )
