Hi. Before entering into a thorough examination of your video, I want to let you know that your final video is at 30 fps. Is it the same for your source video ? If yes, you might want it to be converted it back to 24 fps instead since the IK score might be synchronized to this framerate, which would explain why you are having a hard time for the synchronisation, unless it's a reconversion from Vimeo, which might compromise the data taken with a timecode (I have downloaded the video and opened it in Adobe Premiere in order to provide more precisions for the examination, that's how I found out).

Hi. If you want to do the dual soundtrack, you have this into acount:

Both sound tracks have different cues in different places especially if they were recorded live. If you try to synchronyse both sound together, some will end up with messed up pitches (too slow and too fast) which wiil show in the final piece. That's why I was suggesting to do both sound separately on two different channel and just try to edit a bit the image.

What app do you use to edit ?

Begin with the smaller stuff while synchronizing (Deems Taylor' s narations, for exemple).

I see. That's too bad then. If it was only the Kostal score, you could just cheat a little and adjust the image directly to the sound. Oh well... Maybe if one of us manage to find a print with the complete Pastoral once of this days...

I can tell you something about this secound movement. Near the end with the cherubs & the blue centaurs couple, the music seems a little off synch with the image. Normally, based on the Stokowski music, the characters (and props) shoeud moves seemlessly with the music. It happens nearly at 5:00 mins.

I'm a big fan of film grain and feel Disney's scrubbing has done a terrible disservice to their films, but once you're talking digital sources, the grain is an indication of degradation not fidelity.

Nope. That's also what I think, starting perhaps with some early 1980's of 1990's animated features.

When did the digital work on animation began with the Disney features ?

Be carefull with this pinkish/purpleish blanket, in some places, removing it too much removes some original elements from the images (see picture 1 & 2 for exemples). I know that might be quite a lot, but I think the best in that case (among others) is grading each shots individualy instead of grading the whole film once.

On the same subject, this could explain why the so called "special edition" is lacking this pinkish / purpleish colour that appear throughout the LD/vhs. But was this colour element part of the origimal film or purely accidental (like fade issue, for exemple) ?

Can anybody here, please, answer to that question ?

Don't we already have a print of this title (Dumbo) waiting to be transfered ? If not, do you think it's actual colour faiding will be a problem during transfer and restauration ?

Any other HDTV Disney that are worth mentionning (aside of Aladdin & Who framed Roger Rabbit) ? Maybe we shoud start a list with a short explanation for them ? Could be helpfull

 I've seen the samples and I gotta say, while the voice-acting was mediocre at best (although I might be a little too familiar with the redub, but none the less), I'd really like see some kind of preservation of the entire movie with the original Swedish dub, just for completeness.

Originally, the dubbing was re-done because Dinsney France didn't wanted to pay some original french actors/actress that were still under paid contract, and not just for that movie. One of the actress sue them and won. In some sort of revange thought, Disney France (and probably Buena Vista, the head Disney corporation) did redub all the films to avoid to pay more royalties to artists under active contracts that did their job between the late 50's to the mid 90's. There were, of course, other reasons for the redubs (keep it young & fresh for the target foreign audience) but the biggest one was because of the royalties. This problem occured in all counties were the films were redubs (not just BATB). Since then, every time that people are asking what happened to the older dubs and why aren't they avalaible while it could be a good elements money worth, they always give an evasive answer (lost elements, too old to be used, etc). Funny that some of them were re-used during some of the first vhs/LD releases or can be found on prints selled on grey market or interned and shared among fans. So yeah, wecome aboard the Disney corp. hating ship...

What a shame for a 35 mm film print to get butchered like this...

I'm afraid that you're on your own on this. Trust your guts. Unless one us find an original print, the LD is the closest reference avalaible.

I'm afraid that BATB is one of a kind, SilverWook, the other films weren't presented with a workprint AFAIK, even as a bonus. But I can be wrong...

Speaking of this one, here's sample of my atempt of colour correction. Nothing much, but it's an atempt. At the moment, I'm nearly throwing the towell on this one because there are just too many elements that had been tempered manually & separately over the years. That's why I'm wishing for a print be found.

On a lighter note, does anybody here have been able to locate a good print of B&TB ? It sould be much better quality than the LD, especially in higher resolution for future projects.

Absolutely agreed with falcon on all he said about Fantasia. Let's wait for a better opportunity (like a complete pre-1950 release print, in which the Pastoral will be there complete). For SW, that was the case. Nothing of the original opening and ending cards are known to exist. Scott McQueen, the responsible of the restauration for 2003 DVD, supervised the recreation based on some foreing prints stock (apparently). The result was presented as a bonus on 2003 DVD and spliced directly on the film for the Blu Ray. It's the only film (pre-Fantasia) that had the credits fully reconstructed with all the original elements/informations from it's first release. The other films (Bambi, Pinocchio, Dumbo) are all still fitted with the re-release (1950's) remade credits (althought Disney added somehow to them a fake RKO logo. What a cheap trick). Some, like Cinderella, had their title cards remade completely because they needed to preserve some continuity with the ones they needed to re-use for the bonus features on dvd & BR. You can tell very easily that they were digitally remade by seeing them.

So here we are... Long live pirates, bootleggers & angry fans...

It's nothing new. It's just the segment reprised from the 1990 re-release.

Hi, recently, I tryed to to do some vhs captures but I encountered some problems with image & sound while doing tests.

For some reasons the image have some lines/noise & ghosting on it and the sound had some kind of parasite/noise problem.

My setup is like this: JVC SR-101US SVHS VCR and capture card is a DIAMOND ATI Theater 750 PCIE HD TV Tuner Card.

On this one, surprisingly & apparently, no problem at all. So my question is, what may cause the problem on the JVC and is it fixable ? I tryed to adjust the tracking manually, but to no avail. So...
