.: The X0 Project Discussion Thread :. (* unfinished project *)
Time
probably the WRONG forum/thread to be posting this in. . .but what about some of the more common DVD players (samsung, sony, pioneer, etc). Are there any of those that are a) inexpensive b) progressive scan c) upconvert to 1080i over HDMI and d) play PAL or NTSC (in my case I'm in the U.S. and want to play PAL and NTSC discs on an a 19:9 DLP HDTV)

like i said. . .wrong forum. . .but we were on the subject of upscaling. . .and that's what i'm looking for!

you just spray it on? i'd be worried about that in my dvd player. it works ok though? anybody else "seal" their discs?

Printing out DVD Labels

Anyone know of a cheap CD ONLY alternative? I have an HP photo printer that i absolutely love right now. I used Epsons forever and loved them too, but this new HP beat it out on greyscale photos (i have a lot of old photos). Only thing it doesn't do is cd/dvd printing. Go figure. I don't mind buying an R200, but a whole new printer for just DVD printing seems like a waste of desk space. Any ideas?

Slimline Cover Art?
Time
i had been looking for a program like this!! i downloaded and tried it. . .first impression: it does the same thing i've been doing in photoshop only a lot easier. thanks so much for pointing me in that direction!

i still think, though that we'd benefit from some slimline covers that were made that way from the start. shrinking a spine like that distorts the text. . .which isn't always bad. . .but the star wars cases would look so much nicer the other way!

Slimline Cover Art?

guess nobody's doing this? maybe i'll pm fusionaddict. . .

anyhow. . .i've got to assume that there's someone else in the same boat as me. i've just gotten hold of deleted magic, rarities 1,2, and 3, etc. It'd be great to have slimcase cover art for these, wookiegroomer's set, etc. If nothing else then just the supplimentals! )

Anyhow, just thought i'd throw this question back up there! I can't even find REGULAR case art for the rarities collections!

Info: A year ago I spent $80 on ebay... and a year later I found this site.
Time
Pretty much the same story here. . .EXCEPT. . .

It was September of 2004. . .

I did a little more research (i.e. i found TR47 actually selling these)

Got the DVDs directly from TR47 for. . . . . .I forget!. . .a lot less than $60 CAN though. . .

Found this site before my DVDs eve arrived (was searching for info on TR47. . .there were different sets around and I wanted to know the differences, etc and find some reviews)

Found Rikter. . .and got the Dr. Gonzo Anamorphic set from him.

Now it's (almost) a year later and I've since gotten the editdroid versions on myspleen (thanks rik!) and the wookiegroomer splitscreen set on a.b.starwars. (thanks "The Dark One!!") This is a great place for information and to learn how to get these films. I'm really excited about the X0 project (check it out if you haven't already) and can't wait to get my hands on "the classic edition." My girlfriend doesn't understand why I need to watch 50 different versions of star wars, but at least she ACCEPTS it! LOL

She's like 40 or 45 and probably is not going to be doing "touristy" shopping or bargain hunting. I'm just looking for ideas. Best i've heard is "silk and jade." Well. . .what the hell? "bring me back some silk an jade!"

any more ideas?

good to get in china?

This woman I work with is going to china Sunday and asked me if I wanted anything. Last time she got me this great vase type thing for my living room. My question for you guys is: What's cheap/easier to get in China that is hard to get/expensive in the US? I'm into music, STARWARS (obviously LOL), instruments, all kind of stuff. So any suggestions would be apreciated. Sorry to ask on this forum. . .but at least it's in the off topic forum! ;o)

Slimline Cover Art?
Time
Anyone think of making cover art for slimline DVD cases? Like a lot of people here, I have a few different versions of the trilogy. I have 3 of them in my DVD rack right now (top row. . .TR47, dr. gonzo, and 2004 official) and LOVE to have people ask me "why do you have so many Star Wars?" The problem comes as all of these new versions come out. Split Screen (Wookie Groomer), Edit Droid, Classic edition, etc. They just take up so much room! Half the fun of it, though, is printing out a high res cover to display my copy! Other movies that I do this with I usually shrink (squish) the spine of the cover in photoshop and then put it in one of those slimline DVD cases. I just can't bare to do that with these star wars movies though! Some of you spent so much time on them and they look too good to SQUISH like that!

So back to my original question. Anyone think of making slimline covers? I also have DUAL slimline cases which are slightly larger then the REAL slimlines. Even though i'd only use them for a single disc, perhaps the extra space on the spine would make them more usable? Just thougts. I would love to see some new slim cases!

STAR WARS: the alt.binaries.starwars thread
Time
Let me preface by apologizing in advance! I'm probably going to ask for a few different things here over the next few weeks and don't want you guys to think i'm a nag. I would download all of them from myspleen, but bittorrenting ALWAYS get's my upspeed bandwidth THROTTLED (damn cablevision). I need that speed for my Vonage phone! ANYWAY. . .onto the request. . .

Could anyone be kind enough to upload the Wookie Groomer Split Screen (all 3 Discs) to alt.binaries.starwars? I'd really like to see this version!

My first impression of the new boxset...for what it's worth. (2004 OT DVD SE release)
Time
Well. I watched it last night too, and I have to say it's really Greedo that bothers me.

First of all, let me say that i'm a fanatic just like the rest of you. I'm all for the original trilogy and hate that lucas had to mess with it. On the other hand, I like to be entertained, and if with all these changes he can still entertain me, then i'm happy to own the DVD.

That being said, lets get back to the greedo scene! OK, so he wanted to make Han less of a cold blooded killer and needed to make Greedo shoot first. I disagree, but ok. I can deal with it. He makes them shoot almost at the same time so it looks like Han has better reflexes. FINE. Looks a little off, but FINE. They want to make Han move out of the way so that Greedo missing from 3' away is more realistic. GREAT! That's what we want. The major PROBLEM here is that with all the equipment at their disposal, they didn't get it to look realistic. Don't get me wrong, i can't even begin to imagine how difficult it would be to make Han look as though he was NATURALLY moving out of the way. The result, though, looked like my DVD skipped. It was as Han teleported positions. I watched it 20 times before I finally called in one of my roomates to look at it. I figured maybe i was biased because I know Star Wars. She, on the other hand, does not.

Me: "Tell me what you think of this scene"
(we watch it)
Roomate: "What was I looking for?"
Me: "Anything"
Roomate: "You mean how the disc skipped?"
Me: "The disc skipped? Show me"
(I play it again. . .right as we get to the shooting part. . .)
Roomate: "THERE. . .the disc skipped. . .right? Is that what you're asking?"

There you have it. Someone who had never seen the movie before. She saw that scene. . .Han moving was SO jumpy that she thought the DVD skipped.

THAT's what bothers me. I hope the rest of the discs don't have things that annoying on them!
