Thank you.

Was wondering, though, what music do you intend to swap with for the end scene?

Was going to slide the TFA end credits ditty that you’re using, like in the previous vimeo link I posted, but with a bit of a bridge/new lead-in notes after “A New Home” to lead in so it’s less abrupt and awkward. May play with the timing a bit and tweak it further. Currently, just a crazy idea in my head. But I have all the tools at my disposal, so I may as well try!

If that fails, Bea Arthur or “Life Day” it is!

Sure, I can do that! I’ll add it to my to do list.

Thank you so much! I’m excited to see how everything comes together! I’ve watched the workprint a couple times, and it definitely has become my go-to version of TROS when I’m sitting down to actually watch, whereas the official release is more a passive watch for me. With the material available, this edit is an incredible salvage job of the jumbled knot that is TROS! I also never got around to saying it, but I love your TFA Restructured edit. Really changes that movie for the better (and it’s a movie I already loved)!

Hal, do you happen to have (or would you be willing to supply) the audio for the last “Rey Skywalker” scene sans music between the end of “A New Home” and the End Credits? I’d like to get to work mixing an alternate music ending for myself to be ready once the final edit is out so I can drop it in. It’s literally the only change I’d want to make to this fantastic project for my own viewing pleasure.

Seriously, you (and everyone involved) are doing an incredible job.

My apologies, I thought I mentioned that I know and understand that Hal is happy with the current choice. I was just posting something I had thrown together for posterity due to my screw up with the link when it was being talked about. I have nothing but total support, admiration and appreciation for Hal and this fan edit, and the choices that have been made. I’m sorry if I ruffled any feathers.

That’s fantastic for being a rough pass! I love how Rey’s theme swells almost perfectly into the “Skywalker” name-drop - it actually makes the moment feel triumphant and dare I say it… satisfying? It really emphasises the fact that her entire journey throughout this trilogy has culminated in that one specific moment of finding true belonging. My only very mild criticism would be that as it is just now, the new music slightly overshadows the dialogue, which unfortunately makes the whole moment sound just a touch too “busy”. If the “Rey Skywalker” line was just a hair or two more forward and audible over the new music, then I think I would be completely sold on this!

The familiar motif as the Falcon flies away also feels completely natural and entirely appropriate for the mildly bittersweet, but mostly hopeful tone. For me this change also successfully refocuses the Falcon flight away from just being centered solely around Rey, to instead center around the entire gang equally. With a strong implication towards all of the future adventures they’ll likely have together (while still feeling like a final, happy goodbye). Imo, this transitions far more seamlessly into the end credits too.

All of this isn’t to say that I don’t like Hal’s current version though! Either one thematically works very well. For my personal preference however, this one really sells the moment and ticks all of my boxes.

Great work!

Thanks! I’d love to take all the credit, but I was inspired by the previous person who posted it. Just wanted to tweak it a bit and let the Force theme lead in to Rey’s theme so it could breathe. If I had been able to devote more time, it’d be a lot more unique and polished. But I’m glad you enjoyed it! It’s actually probably the ONLY thing I’ll change once Hal finishes. That said, I enjoy Hal’s choice, too!

I know the final word is in and that Hal is good on the music at the very end of the film, and I respect that. I just realized the drive link I posted didn’t work, so here’s my rough, ROUGH pass at how I personally prefer the music to line up (using the footage posted in someone else’s concept) in the unlikely event anyone wanted to see it: https://vimeo.com/453090772

Speaking of the ending, the music transition into “Directed by JJ Abrams” still feels weird. I know it’s been discussed a lot, so sorry if it’s already been decided upon and everything. It’s, like, abrupt and there is no flow or the usual “jolt” feeling you get when the credits roll. It just feels jarring and jump cut in the audio. I’m sure it’s incredibly difficult to get a proper timing with what appears to be two seperate audio tracks, but it’s just not feeling right.

Could it just be because of how we’re hearing the music as the Falcon is slowly entering hyperspace? Is the timing just all out of whack for my liking?

+1, I was a strong supporter of letting the music play out a little more because the timing cuts in perfectly.

I VERY much prefer how this transitions into the end credits. It’s really great. I would definitely want more of the Force Theme/Rey mix to start as a lead in a little sooner, but I’m not sure how the fade in would work, or if there’s enough time for it. Are there any shots to stretch to allow that beautiful section of music to breathe?

EDIT: I did an INCREDIBLY rough pass at having the theme start earlier. Again, rough pass by me (my skills are beyond rusty), but I prefer the sort of awkward fade-in to the VERY awkward jump to the end credits in the current version. No offense intended, of course!

Also, +1000 to a Ben ghost. I know he’s coming eventually for this cut, but it was nice to see a version of it. I was honestly shocked and disappointed in the theater when he didn’t pop up.

Just wanted to chime in after watching the new workprint, and let me just say that even though it’s a simple change, the removal of the “16 hours” ticking clock made an immense difference for me! I’m very impressed with so many of the custom shots in this edit, as well as just how well this has been tightened up. Great work all around! Can’t wait to see what the final product looks like!

I hadn’t considered it like that but you’re right: the rush is the logistics of the fleet taking off. My only concern is that this may not be clear until late in the film. There are a few times during the adventure when characters say “We don’t have time to X.”

And that’s an interesting read on the Leia death, with Rey feeling responsible for it. That makes sense! I’ll have to play with the scene, though, unless there’s a mock-up out there I may just not be remembering right now. If Rey stabbing Kylo is followed by Rey dropping headphones, there’d be a lot to cram in from Leia before seeing her give out altogether.

For the first part, yes, they don’t have time for “x” because they need to hurry up and stop the fleet. Why the rush? It is explained at the briefing. We can stop them in their tracks if we destroy their beacon. Once they are out, it’s game over. That’s how they even HAD A CHANCE to win with a small fleet. Destroy the beacon, they are trapped. Game over for the baddies.

I really think this is simple, no other work needs to be done, just remove the timer, which makes no sense. What’s 16 hours in a galaxy? How do you do it if we are talking about different planets, different solar rotations, planet spinning, etc. Just removing that stupid timer is such a breath of fresh air. We get an explanation on the rush. Think about this all, the movie itself doesn’t explain things. How did Palps live? (Disney still hasn’t given a clear answer, they go back and forth.) What did Finn want to say to Rey (RJ Tweeted it since it was explained or talked about in the movie) How did the Wayfinder survive in Kylo’s TIE when it EXPLODED? (Oh yeah, plot armor) How did Ben reach Exegol in a standard TIE Fighter? (Oh yeah, RJ tweeted it was a special TIE with hyperdrive even though its been established those TIES do not.)

Let’s not get too caught up on full on explanations.

Michael Scott “Thank you!” GIF goes here

Seriously. The line of the 16 hours could be removed and the implied stakes and rush are still pretty much intact. Such a simple edit would go a long ways… haha.

Star Wars: The Concept Collection (4K UltraHD)
Time

Hey gang, a couple months back, I made a couple sets of custom covers using concept art (I know, real original…) and just figured I’d share them in case anyone is even remotely interested.

Note: some of the white text seems blown out or hard to read on a couple of the lighter backgrounds, but that’s only on the renders.

They’re all here: https://imgur.com/gallery/ejX3htn

And about the 16 hours thing… It unfortunately is about the only real reason the characters keep pushing on so relentlessly, not going back to base and not staying to reflect for any length of time on Ach-To, etc.

Ah, bummer. Not even a throwaway line edit/rerecord saying “an attack is imminent,” or “they’re preparing to attack on all free worlds” or something like that? Haha

I just feel the 16 hour window is WAY too small for everything in the movie to take place. I personally think the characters’ urgency with the breakneck pace of the movie can be properly motivated by the terror of just the knowledge that Palpatine is back and preparing to wreak havoc:

Palpatine is revealed to be on Exegol and an attack is imminent -> Rey recognizes the name Exegol and knows how to find it based on the texts and Luke’s journals -> there’s no time to lose for the heroes to start the hunt for Exegol, especially since this is what Rey has been training for, and she’s motivated by her dark vision and wants to fight it -> they head to Pasaana to start the journey looking for clues, Rey finds the dagger that reeks of the dark side, which is growing in power by the minute, whispers getting stronger -> they need 3PO’s translation, so they have to head to Kijimi -> the dark side whispers/calls are getting even stronger, maybe flashing more visions in Rey’s head(?) -> this leads them to the ruins of the Death Star II on Endor -> etc.

But I’m just being whiny. I know it takes a TON of work, and I’m super happy and impressed with the work being done! You’re awesome!

EDIT: skipping through the movie, would it flow or make sense to put the scene of Pryde communicating with Palpatine (with minor tweaks) right after he kills Hux ("…HIS foolish act will be in vain…"), and then later just transition from Kylo throwing his saber to Leia’s body at the Resistance Base without that scene in-between.

Info Wanted: the 2 Ewok Theatrical Movies - any HD Upscales?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but just last month I completed my own upscales of both Ewok films (under the pseudonym “Project Ewok”) and both are available on the SWT forums. I see they’re starting to spread around other sites now as well.

Man, at this point, I’d kill to be registered over there. That’s where all the good stuff hides… Haha. I hope to encounter copies of Project Ewok someday.

I’m sure it’s already been mentioned/discussed, but there’s one thing in particular that has bothered me: the “16 hours until the Final Order attack” ticking clock just pulls me out of the movie… is there any way around it? Replace it with “Soon, they will begin an assault on all free worlds” if there’s any way to stitch something like that. I dunno.

Regardless, watching v4 right, and really loving a lot of the choices made with this edit to clarify/streamline/even-out this mess of a movie (that I admittedly enjoy enough already, for what it is).

Blu-Ray and other HD box size STAR WARS covers

I’ve also been a lurker for a while. I made a custom set for I-VI last fall, inspired by one of Video Collector’s sets (but mine was an inferior knockoff for personal use), but now that VII has been added to my collection, I’ve been hit with the bug to do a new set in a new style, again inspired by something I saw. Here’s the WIP of TPM, apologies for the low quality (suggestions/criticisms welcome):

And here’s the old covers:
