Smudger9's Bad Batch Movie Series [EP1 & EP2 RELEASED]

Season 3 edit!

As the final season draws to a close I thought I’d share a few ideas about my edit. When the season started off I was expecting to make 2 movies out of season 3 because it got off to a cracking start and seemed that every episode was crucial. However, the last few episodes have gone back to the paint-by-numbers mission of the week with very little plot progression. As I’ve started putting things together it’s yet another case of having enough material for about one and a half movies! The idea of a movie trilogy is very appealing so I’ve started putting together a potential single movie edit and I suspect this is the way I’m going to go. The structure so far is:

Act 1: (58mins)
Opening Crawl & Pan (2mins)

EP1: Confined (20mins)
Largely intact as the opening, but with the material slightly condensed from 3 daytime cycles to two.

EP2: Paths Unknown (completely cut)
Dead end plot that doesn’t help the Batch find Omega. The young clones don’t seem to be important.

EP3: Shadows of Tantiss (22mins)
Minor edits

EP4: A different Approach (10mins)
I have used the start and end of this episode. The opening scenes are intact upto the point where Crosshair and Omega reach the spaceport. When crosshair says about taking out half the guards before they realise, I cut to a Tantiss scene from another episode. We then cut back to Omega and Crosshair in the middle of the gunfight at the port and they escape. The cut is a touch comedic, but I think its much better than including the gambling scenes and the accent-switching Imperial Office. Plus it allows me to cut 10mins and gets us to the Batch reunion as quickly as possible. The other thing that I have cut is Dr Hemlock’s presence on the planet, searching for Omega. It’s inconsequential and contrary to Tantiss being presented as a fortress that nobody leaves unless essential. The hunt for Omega is conducted solely by the Stealth Clone.

EP10: Identity crisis (4mins)
A potentially controversial take on this episode. I thought as a stand-alone it was fantastic and dark. However, in terms of a larger movie edit I’ve decided to cut most of it. Bane the child snatcher is something we’ve seen before and is more fan service than essential plot. I’m also cutting the scenes with the kids. One theme running through this edit will be the mystery of the vault, so it will become a recurring theme that we see characters going into the vault but not the vault itself. We won’t see the inside of the vault until Omega does. We get a clue from the images on Emerie’s data pad, but nothing else.
The only scenes that will be retained are the Emerie taking on Nala Se’s role, Emerie talking to Nala Se about the vault and the Tarkin/Hemlock/Stealth Clone scene. These scenes are intercut with the Ep4 Scenes.

Act 2: (49mins)

EP5: The Return (23mins)
Only minor edits. A slightly frustrating episode in that it’s essential because it resolves the issues the Batch have with Crosshair, however, it doesn’t really move the plot along. That being said, this may be where I use a bit of AI dialogue to get the Batch to Tantiss - it all depends on how the last 3 episodes play out.

EP6 & EP7:
Completely cut. This is crucial to the single-movie edit. As things currently stand it’s not essential to the plot. The batch do find out that the Empire is still hunting Omega, but that is already implied, and some M-count exposition, but that has so far been a bit of a dead end.

EP8 & EP9:
Completely cut. EP9 may have to be re-instated if Ventress appears in the finale - it would be a strange decision to bring her back from the dead just for a stand alone episode.

EP10: Point of No Return (19mins)
Just minor edits here.

EP11: Juggernaught (7mins)
Just the Tantiss scenes. Hopefully the Rampart prison scenes can be cut but I guess we’ll see over the next few weeks.

Act3:
The finale - space for about an hour of material - I’m not worried about achieving a 1-hour finale cut, the issue will be whether the finale will require parts of the cut episodes to be included in act 2.

Hey Smudger9,

Very exciting you are tackling now the last Bab Batch season 😉

I have a suggestion to split this season into 2 movies.

I fully agree that story-wise one movie would suffice as you did in your Episode I and II (congrats again for such an amazing job). I feel for instance that Episode II was mainly centred on the political plot with little room for action parts. I am aware of the original material but I didn’t have that feeling of action/adventure that your Episode I nicely accomplished.

I would propose to include Ep6 and Ep7 of season 3 as the end of your first movie. I feel these two episodes are among the best ones I have seen in the SW animation. In addition, Rex and the surviving clones will likely make one last stand at Tantiss. Besides, the conflict between clones hunting each other and positioning themselves in this empire era is to me very solid material to be included in your edits. And, possibly SPOILER the unknown clone assassin might be revealed as Cody (would be important to close that arc as well).

For the second movie, I would include:
Ep9 (trimmed),
Ep10 (combine footage here in your first and second movie, thus Emerie’s change of mind seems more gradual)
Ep11 (full)
Ep12 “Juggernaut” is an excellent action episode that can balance nicely the film
Ep13-15 Grand Finale

Congrats for all your hard work in editing SW material!! Your Andor cut is terrific 😉

Cheers

As for the second half of the fifth episode (Princess on Lothal), I felt like it cut WAY too much and made things move WAY too fast. IMO Leia’s little introduction aboard the ship (0:46-2:00 of the original episode) was much needed, otherwise we just have a legacy character randomly popping out at the scenery; also, it’s important in-universe 'cause it shows the Empire is very tired of Alderaan meddling in their affairs, which makes them going after it on EP IV a little more believable. Also Kanan and Ezra talking to Leia before facing off against the stormtroopers (6:05-6:50 of the original) was also quite important, not only to keep the pace a little slower but to give some more background as to how Alderaan and the Senate can keep supporting anti-Empire stuff. And for last, the cut pep talk between Leia and Ezra (10:54-12:19 of the original) was a pretty sweet moment of character development for both of them, I don’t see why leaving it out.

Honestly my original intention would have been to cut this episode entirely. That’s probably why the episode moves pretty fast, hahaha. I’ll rewatch the original episode and keep an eye out for what you’ve mentioned and may include those scenes back in for V4. Thanks for the feedback Psy! 😄

Hi G00b,

Based on the episode quality I would have removed it as well. However, it’s quite important imo to show some important cameos in this series -especially Leia given her role in the original trilogy- Your whole series gets stronger by adding this kind of episodes as connective tissue. Because of that, keeping all interactions between Leia and the Ghost’s crew seems crucial to me.

As for the third episode of your season 2 edit (Pirates of the Horn), since I hadn’t watched the original episode, I admit that I was quite confused with what exactly was happening here. After seeing the original version, I really thinks v3 cut a little bit too much from the intro. Starting with Ezra and Chopper fixing the ship (1:48 of the original episode) while seeing the rest of the crew going on their mission would give us more context and a much more valid reason on why is Ezra all of a sudden kind of running away to find his own adventures.

Also think the same here

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE] + Subtitles for season one!
Time

Hi Eddie Dean,

FANTASTIC JOB with the TCW-Refocused!!! I am very excited to take over Smudger9 fanedits (specially after he discontinued them). I find your work way superior and more comprehensive. Really, I cannot praise enough your ongoing project!!

Unfortunately, I don’t have much time to follow up your new versions of these edits and provide regular feedback, something I would love to. So, this post is an exception to me.

Review on “Dissent of Umbara v.2.0”: It’s the first time along the viewing of TCW-refocused I notice too many cuts and a rushed pace. The first 30 min of the episode goes too fast. Importantly, the hatred towards general Krell is not smoothly built. I remember when I watched for the first time the Umbara arc 4 years ago. It worked nicely to me and it made me hate this general as much as these clones. This feeling is missing for me in your edit. Especially, I missed the conflict how some clones are willing to follow orders no matter what and how other decide to think independently.

I definitely think this arc would improve vastly in the extended edition you plan to release. I would remove the goofiness and the flying test, the rest I would leave it untouched. It’s probably the best action arc of the whole series.

That’s being said, I want to highlight again what you are building in this project is outstanding and I am loving it! It’s a blessing for any SW fan.

Once I finish the whole series viewing I will leave a proper review in Fanedit.org

Best,

Manu

(RE)RELEASED - S03E08 - Dissent on Umbara (v2.0)

  • RELEASE VERSION, now brought up to my more polished v2.0 standard.
  • Our eighth episode of season three.
  • (Note the new ordering if you’ve been away from my edit for a while.)
  • Comprising the original episodes Darkness on Umbara, The General, Plan of Dissent, and Carnage of Krell.
  • Running 52 minutes.
  • DOWNLOAD LINK is in the tracker spreadsheet, PM me for access.
  • Note: It’s recommended that you download this before watching, rather than streaming it directly from Google Drive.

A very popular episode, with gorgeous graphics and a good meaty shades-of-grey plot.

Noteworthy changes:

  • This episode is titled ‘Dissent on Umbara’, mainly because I wanted to preserve the name Umbara (as I’ve done with many of the most popular arcs) and, y’know, dissent.
  • Regarding placement, this originally aired around the middle of the show, and I’ve pushed it just a little more towards the ending. Mostly to balance the season, but also because it’s time to start refocusing on complicated clones, and it shows both Dooku and the Republic getting more desperate.
  • I use the opening text to emphasise the Republic’s limited supply of clones (thanks Padmé), and keep the Umbara plot clear.
  • Structurally, I’ve made quite a lot of trims - though I’d hope that the episode feels the way you remember it. The original arc had a lot of action, which looked gorgeous but really didn’t serve the plot, and watching it as four episodes I think it really drags and the pacing suffers. I’ve chopped a bunch to let the emotional core shine through, but with far tighter pacing, whilst still keeping this as a very action-heavy episode that showcases the gorgeous graphics. In particular I trimmed the combat-heavy opening where Anakin’s leading the clones, up till Krell takes over, and I only had Krell send the clones on one suicide mission (versus the walker tanks) rather than also in a straight line against the capital. All the meat, a quarter of the time.
  • But yes, for those of you who miss it, I will eventually release an extended version with all the combat back in.
  • I trimmed a little of the infiltration of the airbase as well as some of the surrounding combat and discussion.
  • After the clones take the airbase, I trimmed some of the discussion there, most notably removing the scene where they test and crash the aircraft, because it doesn’t change the status quo.
  • Throughout, I trimmed most of Krell’s more overtly villainous hatred of Clones, making it seem (at least early on) more like he’s just a hardliner with extreme tactics.
  • In the final episode, I preserved the majority of it, mainly just cutting down the hunt for Krell in the forest to remove his cartoonishly evil villain speech and to speed up his capture, while preserving a lot of his physical threat. I also slightly trimmed his jail dialogue to imply he’s already a Separatist rather than just doing this all on the hope he’ll get recognised. I think this all tightens up his character nicely, whilst keeping him ultimately the same.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone [Revisited] (Released)
Time

CONGRATULATIONS. I have just watched the revisited edition of the “Sorcerer’s Stone”, impressive work! Audio editing and footage edition are notch level. I wonder if it´s possible to release a Bluray format or if it´s too messy. Definitely, this cut replaces for me the original one.

I cannot wait to see the revisited edition of the “Chamber of Secrets”. Apparently, the download file from Fanedit.info was removed. Please, can you send me a link to get the second part of this saga?

Thanks in advance!
