I Have said that in the redux thread, but I also find interesting to put that here:

At the final scene, I really liked Rey’s new lightsaber colour, but get frustrated to know it isn’t a double-bladed one. The biggest problem is that the Rey’s saber shot is a closed one, so we can only see one half of the saber, making it impossible to edit the other half to generate a second blade.
Rey could have a double-bladed lightsaber at the end. This is the kind of saber everyone wants to see her using since TFA and is lame that we just see it in a dark vision. If she built one new saber at the end of the movie, what if the new Rey’s saber is a double bladed one and ALSO have the “swiss army” flip function? So in the saber ignition shot, we first see the yellow blade, and after that another blade flips to upside, revealing a double bladed lightsaber that flips and is just like the Dark Rey’s one. The only differences are the colour and the stable blade instead of a crackled one.
What you guys think of the idea? I think it would be really cool, and it would also make everything more tied. Rey see a different kind of saber that fits her more (The double bladed one in the vision) so, when she built a new saber representing her new generation of Jedi will be more different than the others before, that saber will be the most different possible (in colour, in number of blades and in sense of how it works because of the flip function). I will find a time at the next week to work on that, but if you guys have some idea or tip to help I would be really very glad, and if the idea is just lame tell me either, please.

Star Wars: <strong>The Rise Of Skywalker</strong> Redux Ideas thread

Hi guys, there was ALWAYS something in that movie that drives me crazy. At the final scene, I really liked Rey’s new lightsaber, but get frustrated to know it isn’t a double-bladed one. The biggest problem is that the Rey’s saber shot is a close one, so we can only see one half of the saber, making it impossible to edit the other half to generate a second blade.
So I was watching TROS Ascendant by Hal and in the Dark Rey scene I thought:
If Rey was going to have a double bladed lightsaber, she would think in that possibility after seeing her dark self with one in the vision, so what if the new Rey’s saber is a double bladed one and ALSO have the “swiss army” flip function. So in the saber ignition shot, we first see the yellow blade, and after that another blade flips to upside, revealing a double bladed lightsaber that flips and is just like the Dark Rey’s one. The only differences are the colour and the stable blade instead of a crackled one.
What you guys think of the idea? I think it would be really cool. I will find a time at the next week to work on that, but if you guys have some idea I would be really very glad.

I agree with Darth. Even if Hal doesn’t want to put the stablishing shot, it stills a cool easter egg and more than what we saw in the original movie. However, I really think if were able to remove the lava from the Castle, it would change the shot a lot from the original in Rogue one (that plus the awesome changes 21c already have did) and also give the aspect of an abandoned castle we discussed so much about. I really hope Hal give us a try with the stablishing shot if we are able to do that.

This is the last post I’ll make about this I swear haha.
Anyways, I don’t think it’s important that the castle looks menacing. It’s not supposed to be in its prime. Here’s a terrible concept picture I made in 10 seconds on paint:

Wow, really great Jar Jar. Maybe if the castle is presented that way, Hal will consider that shot really different from Rogue One’s original shot and include that in the movie?? Hahah, just hoping. I really wish that in Ascendant. (Also it makes sense we don’t have lava in the Castle anymore because Mustafar is healing and the lava is disappearing)

Also, to my thinking, the lava would continue to flow regardless of the castle being abandoned. I can’t remember all of the other canon/non-canon stories about the castle, but I like to think of the beings that Kylo is fighting as cult members who likely are still inhabiting the castle as a dark shrine of sorts.

Just my thoughts.

Yes, is like what I said. The castle was left in ruins 30 years before TROS, if there are cultists protecting this place, it’s safe to say they maybe have reconstructed the castle and maybe are living inside it.
I just think you did a stellar job, 21C and don’t think it looks at all like an Rogue One shot, kinda disappoints me that we will not see that in Hal’s cut, but it is his decision, after all. I just glad he is doing an amazing job with this really flawed movie.

I’ve actually been working on a few establishing shots…

Wide shot of 3 tie fighters flying to Mustafar in space
Cut to 21C Peasant Castle clip
Then Poppasketti forest flyover
Remove the star destroyer from Battlefront II footage and adding the castle at the end.
Battlefront II Stormtroopers blaster colour change from blue to yellow
Cut to original Kylo fight
Add Castle in Kylo holding Wayfinder

I think it is a great idea, Movies. Really excited to see a video in your channel about that work of yours. Unfortunately we won’t see the Castle in it’s full glory at the Ascendant cut, but I really hope you include that in your The Last Hope edit!

You could flip it around a bit. Zoom in and crop it, reverse the direction. Plus, the addition of those TIEs also differentiates it from Rogue One. Put an overlay of a forest around it.

I don’t think any one would think, “I’ve seen this before.”

I agree with Ziggy. I was expecting Hal to say that, that’s why I suggest we kinda change the Castle appearance (That could make the shot really different and convince Hal) I really want to see Vader Castle in that edit but without an Stablishing Shot that just don’t work, but I don’t wanna Movies Remastered edit to be left behind because all of his heavy work he puts in that.

Oh no, I think you misunderstood me. I do want both to be in the edit, but I just don’t want Movies Remastered to have to do his work all over again 😃

OOOh, so there was a major misunderstood of us all. I do not want that also, the only shot that would “need” to be changed was the Tie’s, Movies Remastered shot is perfect.

It really depends on how ruined we want the castle to appear. Ideally, someone could add some cracks and small pieces missing of it in the TIE shot. That way the far away shot by Movies Remastered wouldn’t necessarily have to be changed.

the Movies shot have the castle really blurred so I don’t think it’s necessary like you said. The only problem with that shot to me is that ALONE it is kinda weak. Is a blink-you-lost cameo of the castle and is not that powerful, but if you put that TIE shot at the beggining, it becames super cool. Imagine if you are at the cinema and just the castle appears in a one second shot? kinda weak. But if the Castle appear at the large screen visible and after that appears again quickly and blurred in other frame, it works because you already are expecting to see more of the castle and you would be just searching for it when it shows again.

Anyways I just hope that Hal decides to include the Tie shot even if its kinda a reused shot from Rogue One

I really don’t feel like the ruins piece is necessary. It would look cool, but not required.

It’s far enough away that you can’t tell.

I agree with you, it would definitely looks cool, but I hope the Castle shot stays even if it is the way it is in the video you share with us.
Poe being a drugdealer makes no continuity sense and they make a stupid excuse to that after the movie came out, so we could say that maybe the Sith cultists that are protecting the castle rebuilt that and that’s why it looks new and cool. What do you think?

If you can provide images of the castle in ruins I’d be happy to try it but right now we are really limited on good stock photos and footage for it to be done without someone recreating it in 3d.

Sure, maybe I could try to make an ruined version of the Castle in photoshop, but I think I just will have the time next week. But you got my Idea right? really hope that shot goes to the final cut

I think everything that is need to be done to the Vader Castle cameo is:
-Include the altered Rogue One shot from the Castle with the Ties and colour correction Ziggy has linked
-Add the awesome Movies Remastered edit of the Castle Behind Kylo when he holds the Wayfinder
That’s it. We got a proper Mustafar appearance with a satisfying Vader Castle cameo (the original one of the movie I barely recognize if I haven’t read it online) and a Coruscant nice easter egg in the movie.
A proper Vader Castle cameo is just so good because ties the sequel trilogy with Rogue One, making the Disney Era more interconnected. We all go to cinema in 2016 and watched Rogue One, wondering if elements from that movie would appear on the other movies of the sequels. To be better than this, only if we find a way to include something from Solo, but I have no idea really.

Oh man I don’t remember seeing that shot of the ties in front of Vader’s castle that looks wonderful. We probably didn’t go with it because we didn’t want to reuse footage from another movie. I could look past that though. Although, I’m still of the opinion that the Battlefront footage doesn’t work unfortunately.

I think the stablishing shot from Rogue One REALLY works, because has the Tie Fighters in it and the different colour scheme, that makes that shot barely recognizable. Maybe if someone talented in VFX were able to make the castle look more damaged and destroyed (because a lot years passed and it would follow the continuity from the expanded universe, that says the castle was left in ruins after vader dies) it would make the shot even more different than it was originally, would maintain the continuity and it would be finally the castle appearance we all wanted to see in the movie. But even if is not possible I really think hal should maintain that in the v2. About the battlefront stuff, yeah it doesn’t work unfortunately :

That might be perfect when Rey is looking at the stars and we hear the voices. Luke is rallying the troops to fight Papa Palps.

Oh, yeah, that could be great. Maybe john could also include some other jedi around luke like mace or qui gon (all the voices, in the scene only kenobi, anakin and luke of course, but at the moment luke calls the troops everyone could show up, maybe even leia, i think it would be awesome) also other oportunity is put there in the moment ben dies, so luke could “receive” his spirit and so ben can appear as a force ghost in the end scene.

That was… interesting.

I appreciate the effort to include the amazing trailer music (you can see my attempt to put it in a different scene here: https://vimeo.com/459982104), but it didn’t fit well IMO and started to become messy with the constant music changes.

The Tantive IV explosion was great! I’d love to see that included in Hal’s edit.

The Force ghosts are a mixed bag. I thought they looked a bit rough (especially Yoda and Anakin who looked like PS3 characters lol) and moved unnaturally. However, I thought the inclusion of Qui-Gon was cool (he’s canonically able to appear as a physical ghost by the time of ANH according to the "From A Certain Point of View book) and if we ever get confirmation that Ahsoka died before TROS and became a Force ghost, I’d love to see her and Qui-Gon added to jonh’s version.

Why does Luke look scared and yell at Rey when she destroys Palpatine? And the Yoda line at 3:02 was hilarious and not in a good way. What even was that? Lmao

It’s a cool alternate version of jonh’s edit and I’d like to see the Tantive IV explosion used, but ultimately I think jonh’s version is still the best by far and an update with Ahsoka and Qui-Gon down the line would be really cool.

The footage from Ahsoka in the Mandalorian could be used!!! Jonh give us an updated scene with Qui, Ahsoka and the Tantive explosion please!

I know this is more a VFX (a really hard one to do actually) change, but what if there was an version of this movie where luke uses both of his lightsabers?
I really miss the green one and it would really be awesome to see he fighting kylo with his green. But the symbolism of Luke holding the Skywalker saber again after refusing it to Rey is pretty good to me and it seems like a waste to not have Luke using the Anakin’s saber during the movie.
And would be the coolest thing ever seeing Luke with the green saber in a hand and the blue saber in another, like Anakin in Attack of the Clones.
I understand this edit is a quite impossible thing to do, but if someone talented like jonh done something like that, it would be really amazing and it’s a shame that Rian Johnson don’t think of something like that because it would BREAK the theater
