Help: looking for... 'The Lion King' - Original Theatrical Version, from VHS or LD?

On you-know-where, I found a workprint version of “The Lion King” that was sourced from VHS. PM me for details.

Excuse me? I know what you’re thinking of. It’s the original theatrical release. Plus, I reckon there are some elements that have been changed as the rest of the Walt Disney Company created a well-restored copy “for the first time ever on Disney DVD”. And considering the rest of the elements of the initial release except some have been deleted in the Special Edition release, these deleted elements taken from the initial release and 1995 UK VHS tape considered for the Special Edition are to have well-restored colours on screen.

Behold the link for the re-release changes page taken from fandom:
https://lionking.fandom.com/wiki/The_Lion_King_series_re-release_changes

The rest of the elements you know in the 1994 initial release column in the left of the table from fandom should be digitally remastered reducing the level of dreadful shaking, dust, grain, scratches and any other sort of unnecessary dirt on the 35mm film with yet the same colours as the 2011 Diamond Edition Blu-ray disc and 2017 Signature Edition. And, uh, hopefully, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will be completely impressed with that. Therefore, the question is: Where on earth do they ever sell the initial release on 35mm film on eBay?

I found a 35mm trailer for “A Bugs Life” on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-A-BUGS-LIFE-trailer-Walt-Disney-Pixar-film-cells-/171709924684?hash=item27fab5854c:g:f6MAAOSwNSxU-yXq

Perfect. That’s a good one, but can’t you try to create a digital transfer of that trailer like Pixar did to the film?

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie - 35mm Re Creation (a WIP)

I was fortunate to attend that 35mm screening in NYC where Drymon spoke afterwards. The film was in… interesting condition. Reel 1 seemed to be a bit more saturated and with some slightly stronger contrast. The rest of the film looked more like the DVD/Blu-Ray versions.

The screening was amazing. The audience was extremely enthusiastic and everyone was applauding and laughing all the way through.

Excuse me? Did you say “The screening was amazing”?

SpongeBob SquarePants - 1997 Pilot Debut Reconstruction (* unfinished project *)

But cropping it to 16:9 will zoom in the image and it will look horrible, FX did it with The Simpsons and they did it with Seinfeld, it crops of the information on the side and you lose detail. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_II-FZXekPQ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFIrsitJW5M will explain a bit better

No, but by reframing it to 16:9, I do not necessarily mean cropping it. However, I literally mean adding missing elements that do not exist because the episode is presented in 4:3. Okay?

Background: The first episode of SpongeBob Squarepants was finalized in 1997. Following the green lighting of the series and the completion of the remainder of Season One, the episode made its debut following the 1999 Kids’ Choice Awards, presented in the format identical to the '97 nickelodeon pitch. Here is a VHS recording of the original airing (password: AHOY):

https://vimeo.com/137892254

In all subsequent airings and home releases, the pilot was re dubbed ‘Help Wanted’, and paired with two additional episodes ‘Reef Blower’ and ‘Tea at the Treedome’. As such, the original end credits sequence was replaced with one that credits all three episodes. The original opening sequence was replaced with the typical intro placed at the beginning we’re familiar with today, and where the title once was is edited out by use of a generic bubble transition. Additionally, a sound cue of a harpsichord playing along with seagulls squawking over a black screen just before the episode fades in, was also removed. The pilot has never re aired or re released in its original format.

Considering it is of some historical value, I’ll be doing a small reconstruction using the 1080p iTunes release of ‘Help Wanted’, and whatever sources of the original pilot are available. I plan to have two audio tracks, one reconstruction using multiple sources, and one of the VHS audio as seen above synced to the final product.

Amazing! Paramount Pictures will be impressed. And I bet it’s going to be a 20th Anniversary edition.
