4K restoration on Star Wars

Considering the quality of this thread, I REALLY hope that Star Wars Celebration will definitively put these OOT rumors to rest (for better or worse, at this point).

If Disney cannot release the OOT, they should tell us and give the reason why.

If Lucas does have final cut rights (stupid), then we can direct our anger at him and not Disney.

If Fox won't play ball, we can start on expressing our displeasure to Fox.

If Disney doesn't want the OOT out to pander to the SE/PT fans, then we need to remind them they don't really count as people.

We even saw TIE Fighters, not TIE Interceptors in the sneak peak trailer which to me was saying "Return of the Jedi didn't happen, folks!".

ROTJ or not, seeing the same fighters 30 years afterwards is a stupidity from the story point of view.

They brought X-wings and TIE fighters back just so they can play on the "look we are going back to OT" note. I am sure many fans get "orgasm" by seeing X-wings again... LucasFilm knows that and exploits it for marketing reason of course.

Almost everyone likes X-wings and TIE fighters. They just play it safe and reuse the already proven stuff. But the film creativity will suffer because of that.

I won't be surprised if this backfires on Disney. Mainly because the vocal fans who wants the new movie to be one big nostalgic trip down their memory lane aren't necessary reflective of the much larger casual SW fans who didn't grew up with the OT.

PT fanboys are not real people so who cares about them?

The public still thinks of Star Wars as Luke, Han and Leia vs Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Stormtroopers.  Having the big three pass the torch will give the new characters a leg up in acceptance.

PT 3D releases

I really wouldn't be surprised if they re-release all six films theatrically in 3D in September as part of the build-up to Episode VII. Maybe they're not done converting the OT yet but they'll use this occasion to make the grand announcement?

At the very least, I could see them doing all-day marathon screenings in theaters leading up to the midnight release just like Marvel did for The Avengers.

Is Disney really going to want to showcase the PT before the new movie?  The marketing and hype is how much like the OT it is.  I can see them showing the OT, but not the PT.

There are going to be some big announcements come mid-April. I wouldn't be surprised to see the first poster, a new trailer, maybe a clip. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they announced a new show. Probably what the first spin-off will be.

 How do you know this?

Isn't Celebration in April?

Even more changes to the digital versions (2015) of the OT?
Time

Since the figure sets got leaked, it seems that Star Wars will be available on digital platforms next year.  Do you think there will be even more changes to the movies?  What change will join Greedo shooting, Hayden Force Ghost and Noooo! in the hall of shame?

I personally fear for things like this

ANH

More rocks added in front of Luke when he spies the bantha in the canyon

The ronto that walks in front of the landspeeder poos

Jabba now farts when Han steps on him

Naboo Fighters and ARC-170s added to Battle of Yavin

When Vader’s ship spins away he screams “Noooooo!”

ESB

CGI Speeder Bikes added to Hoth Battle

Yoda replaced by CGI to be much more mobile.

Lando mentions “trade negotiations” multiple times.

Even more Vader arriving on his Star Destroyer cutaways

ROTJ

R2-D2 now has an air fight with a Genosian on the sail barge

Yoda replaced by CGI and dialog altered to mention midicholorians, Darth Sidious, the Chosen One Prophecy and trade negotiations.

Mas Amedda added to Palpatine’s advisors

“Obi-Wan once thought as you do.” replaced with “Padme, your mother, once thought as you do now.”

Nein Numb replaced with Jar Jar Binks as Lando’s co-pilot.

<span style=“font-size: 11pt; line-height: 1.4;”>Hayden is made Vader’s unmasked face and he whines about how he was held back and how he hates sand.</span>

Yoda’s Force Ghost now is CGI and dances along to the music.

The TFN community is kind of delusional I think. Not that I'm not also delusional, but I don't really understand how someone could honestly think that there's a reason to let the original versions of Star Wars rot away into nonexistence (which I know one specific TFNer has said before)

I believe some have said that if Disney acknowledges and releases the OOT, then it will "interfere" will the saga AKA George's vision.  Even when the OOT is released on Blu-ray, I'm guessing the 2011 versions (or newer versions) will still remain as official.

Sure, but who really cares about what is "official"?

Well if you are solely interested in OT then official canon is of no concern. However if you are interested in sequels then that might present inconveniences. For example, if for some reason they wanted to have Anakin's ghost, they might bring Hayden back in order to follow the canon. I gave the worst case scenario but still. :)

There is no way that Hayden will be in the ST.  Disney does not want that shitstorm when they are trying to re-make the franchise.

TFN idiots try and argue that Jar Jar is better than Chewbacca.  That alone makes them wrong.

As I've said before, Disney's strategy has been a subtle apologizing for the Prequels and Lucas' more controversial decisions.  Look as Oscar Isaac's interviews.  No way he would have been allowed to even think those things before.  He would have been on his way to join David Prowse in exile.

Lucas doesn't care anymore.  He has a new wife and child.  He's spending a ton of time in Chicago, away from everything. There is no need to pander to him anymore.  The only ones to suffer are the PT/SE Lucas is god fanboys, and I'm not even sure they are really people so screw 'em.  We can get the new kids to have a proper view of Star Wars.

**RUMOR** Original theatrical cut of the OT to be released on blu ray!!

Roger Ebert agrees: http://www.rogerebert.com/rogers-journal/lucas-demonstrates-potential-of-digital-video-with-attack-of-the-clones

He seems to claim that AOTC's fuzziness on film was part of Lucas's agenda to push digital projection.

I remember that.  I saw it opening day after school and it was fuzzy.  Of course theforce.net tried to blame it on my theater.

If all great movies were "improved" the way that George did to Star Wars, imagine what that would do to our great cinematic heritage.  NNNOOOO!!!!!!

Or All About Eve with the dinosaurs the director wanted to include, but couldn't.

The Errol Flynn Robin Hood would be better with Maid Marion replaced with Angelina Jolie.

To slightly take my own thread off-topic...

I've got a 2-year-old-ish nephew with Christmas/Birthday approaching and I was thinking "What better time to indoctrinate him early into Star Wars!" with the new films coming next year :-)

So I was looking around for what kind of '2-3 year old' merch was available. This 9" 'talking' Chewbacca plush seemed the best bet...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtDh9MuGATY

It seems have been recently repackaged with non-PT artwork which is nice.

Any other suggestions? Something that will be in the ST (So not Yoda for example)

The Disney Store has a great Chewbacca plush for about $20.  Its 18 inches. There is also a TaunTaun and Wampa.
