Perhaps they’re saving Maul for a hoped-for Obi-wan spinoff film. Although I would vastly prefer it if Maul was done away with as innocuously as he was introduced.
I don’t think so… if I remember correctly, the next scene is Rey attempting to fix the ship and it becomes more of a scene between Finn and BB8, followed by the introduction of Han and Chewie to the film (which is definitely a scene stealer.) Even if there wasn’t a moment of character/ relationship development between Rey and Finn post Jakku escape, it would have been nice to take that moment to let everyone, audience included, breathe for a second. Most of the success of an action-packed film is knowing when to take a breath; I think that moment would have been an excellent opportunity.
Although, one could argue that the scene revealing the map is a good breather - which is true. However, I think that whole sequence, from the Escape from Jakku through the Arrival at Maz’s Castle, could have been edited differently to greater effect.
