Info: TLJ - Caretaker village sequence
Time

I’m pretty satisfied with TLJ as it is, but this is one deleted scene I feel is crucial and should be added back into the film. After seeing it on the blu-ray I can feel it’s absence when I watch the film now. It really shows Rey and Luke reaching their breaking point and provides a stronger rationale for their actions later that night.

A few questions:

Any fanedits that integrate this scene already?

Has anyone tried restoring it? A few shots with background plates (?) look off, as well as Rey running along the rocks. I assume the latter part can just be edited out.

The Force Awakens - Ridley's Edit (WIP)
Time

I love your idea of including the ‘Kylo searches the falcon’ scene. Do you have a sample of the work you’ve done on it and how you’re integrating it into your edit? What’s the sequencing of events like?

If you’re including the scene where he’s talking to the trooper in Starkiller Base and suddenly senses Han, then you should definitely remove his “Han Solo” line in the falcon since he already says it in the preceding scene.

V2 has all the Despecialized audio tracks, plus fitted for a 25gb blu ray. So the video encode is quite a bit smaller than version 1. Side by side I didn’t notice much of a difference though.

@Dreamaster:

Would you consider re-releasing your corrected version of this project with a higher video bitrate?

This way, folks, here, can load in the audio streams of their choice and not sacrifice the quality of the video, thereby they can appreciate the changes that you’ve made to your work at a higher level. When they are burning the video to a disc, they can decide how much bitrate on the video, itself, to lose to suit their viewing taste.

I second this request.

Dreamaster, this is remarkable what you’ve been able to accomplish with the grindhouse, but the lower bitrate is noticeable when viewing on a large screen. Do you have a version of this with lossless video quality that matches the bitrate of the grindhouse? I can help upload/seed it on myspleen for you.

No worries either way. This is still my go to version of ESB.

Info: Re-mixed audio tracks on video releases
Time

SilverWook said:

I was hoping someone would do that. I recently captured the early 80’s Laserdisc stereo mix.

Well, I tried. If I mux the DVD audio and blu-ray video it starts in sync but by the time characters start to speak after the opening dance number it’s out of sync.

I also tried changing the audio speed with audacity. I changed the length to match the runtime of the blu-ray video file but that makes it out of sync as well.

Here’s the 4.0 audio from the original DVD release if anyone has the blu-ray and wants to give it a shot:

I was going to mux the original 4.0 mix of Xanadu with the blu-ray video but I ran into a problem. I figured it would be as easy as dropping the DVD audio into the MKVtoolnix since both the DVD and Blu-ray video start on the same exact frame and end with the MPAA rating, but the DVD runs at 29.97fps instead of 23.98 like the blu-ray. The blu-ray video is 10 seconds longer.

Any advice on how I can accomplish this sync? I have all the necessary files already ripped if anyone wants me to upload and share them.

Thanks.

Is someone still working on an improved '81 crawl that will be available to download?

Yes, I promise I will get to that as soon as is convenient, but there has been a lot of drastic, difficult change going on in my life, so I please just ask for everyone to be as patient as possible. Worst case scenario is I won’t be able to get to it until Saturday.

Again, I apologize guys.

No pressure. Just wanted to make sure if it was still in the works and was going to be shared with us. Don’t want to waste a 50gb bd-r on the current ISO if I’ll be able to get an improved crawl.

Thanks Darth Lucas, Willarob, and everyone else contributing to this project.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

The timestamp doesn’t seem obtrusive at all. It’s tiny and it’s on the bottom black bar.

If people still find it distracting I can offer a solution to get rid of it:

  • hook up a laptop to your TV with a HDMI cable
  • play the file with VLC
  • right click and go to “video”, “crop”, and select 2.35:1 or 2.39:1 (whichever ratio Jedi is in)

This will put black bars over the original black bars with the timestamp.

The Thing (1982) [spoRv] *BD-25 RELEASED*
Time

I tested the BD-RE onto several BD players, and it worked flawlessy. According to one of my colleagues, that has seen "The Thing", or, better, "La Cosa" many times on TV; "colors are like how I remember them from TV broadcasts of '80s and '90s, and are not so dull as you told me... I like it!"

If someone who could author BD with menus would like to help me, I think "The Thing [spoRv 2.0]" could be done with a little color more, along with animated menus, a remastered HD trailer, and some interesting extras in an additional BD-25.

About to download this but are you still planning a 2.0 release?

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

I was all ready to watch this tonight, and now I have a problem. I watch MKV by putting it on my portable hard drive and playing it through my Blu-ray player USB. I have a PC laptop, but I wanted to download this on my family's MAC, since I don't like leaving my laptop on all day. So it finishes downloading, and I put my portable hard drive in to transfer the file, and it can't be done, and shows the hard drive is read only.

Anyway to get by this? I guess I'll have to buy a BD-R, and burn it as data disc to transfer to my pc?

Star Wars Animated Films based on EU Novels & Comic Books
Time

Why hasn't this happened yet, like how DC releases direct to video animated features like Batman Year One based on the comic book. I can see some of the novels being adapted, like the Thrawn trilogy, and have the original cast do the voices. And I know people would love to see a movie version of the Star Wars Old Republic video games. Why is Lucasfilm wasting time getting on this? There's some serious money to be made and would give fans a chance to see new SW movies without having to spend so much time and money compared to live action ones.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I'm excited for the new release, and hopefully you go through with the MKV release!

I just got a chance to watch 1.0 last week, and Harmy, you are a great person for doing this. When I got it, I just wanted to sample it, since it was 6 in the morning. I ended up sitting there for the entire movie. It was probably the best Star Wars home viewing experience for me, despite the early hour.

Thanks Harmy!

Two random ROTJ observations about the Twin revelation.
Time

I know that there wasn't enough time in the movie to go into this, but does anyone else find Han's reaction to Luke and Leia being brother and sister a little odd? It's like he just gives it 2 seconds thought and laughs it off. Wouldn't he be like "whoa whoa, how the hell did that happen?" and "You made out with your brother!" It's always disappointed me, but I know it happened at the end of the movie and there wasn't enough time to go into that.

Also, I love Carrie Fisher. Her performance as Princess Leia in Empire is great. But, every time I watch ROTJ, I feel like she didn't deliver in the scene where Luke reveals they are twins. It's an important scene for the franchise and I think her performance in that scene is disappointing and not what was needed.
