Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)
Time

This was really interesting to read! It defiantly explains why I’m so drawn to the original trilogy and why anything else just never really interested me. Reading this has giving me a better understanding of how I view the SW franchise and my relationship to it, so thank you.

I know the main purpose of this essay is not to discuss where Lucas got his inspiration but I just quickly want to add in regards to addendum#1 that the force is also similar to the concept of qi.

hi!! I’m Koral!

My first introduction to Star Wars was when I watched the specialized edition of the original trilogy back in the early 2010’s.

I have always adored fairytales and mythology, and I have such a soft spot for stories that draw heavy inspiration from them. Which I guess is why I’m so drawn to the OT.
I have alot of feelings and thoughts regarding the OT, but other people have already said it way better than I ever could. Goes to show how iconic and culturally relevant they are, since they have been discussed and analysis so much for decades. I can’t speak about them on an “academic” level, but at leas on a personal level I can say that the OT means alot to me.

I’ve never seen it but I’ve always been curious about the original unaltered version. One day youtube randomly decided to recommend me a video about Harmy’s despecialized edition. I watched them and I honestly didn’t expect that it would be such a different experience. It really made me love the OT even more.

I discovered this forum afterwards. A few months ago I didn’t even know that fanedits and restoration projects where a thing, but I have gain soooo much respect for people who make them.
