kk650's Star Wars Saga: Regraded and Semi-Specialized (Released)

You're not the first to point out that edit point joefavs. I explained on tehparadox why I didn't just cut the whole shot. Here's what I said:

'Thanks for the feedback AwesomeJP! Yes I know the edit point you're talking about, where I cut the swinging Jawas from the blu-ray. The only other option is to cut that shot entirely which I tried but it makes for a very jarring audio jump in the music, where I have the cut now works much better in terms of the music. Its not the perfect cut point in terms of the video I know but it personally doesn't bother me much, the audio cut in the music from cutting the whole shot bothers me much more, so I prioritised the music over the video.'

Well The Abyss has already been done and aired on TV. True Lies has also been done by Reliance. Both are tealed.

The T2 master is from 2003 yes but it's on D-5 HD tape at 1080PsF.

It looks like they're using a non DNRed transfer like the spanish blu-ray this time, with the ratio correct like on the spanish blu-ray and not vertically stretched.

Still stretched, see post #4. :\

Ah fair enough, its just less stretched than the Japanese release. A step in the right direction anyway. I'll have to compare it to the spanish blu-ray later. I think we all know that any new remaster is going to be tealed :(

It looks like they're using a non DNRed transfer like the spanish blu-ray this time, with the ratio correct like on the spanish blu-ray and not vertically stretched. Not sure why they decided to make the fleshtones even more red and sunburnt than the skynet edition though.

Looking at the other releases of T2 on caps-a-holic, the fleshtones appear to all be the same as the skynet edition, so this new release stands out in that regard and not in a good way IMHO.

thanks for heads up.....it is a shame that the img become doesn't work. this is my first so to say real attempt at a regrade. however I have been encoding for quite some time. Hope some will enjoy my release when i post them. May not be the best regrade but I'm very happy with it

Vinnie, if this is your first regrade then you're off to a great start :)

Ultimately the only thing that matters is that you are happy with it, regardless of what others think IMHO. That is certainly how I approach my own work.

I hope that you go on to do other regrades.

tried to compare mine to your screens....im sure timing is little off. will have proper screens up soon. along with the BD50 with BDInfo, MKV Remux, MKV 1080p Encode, MKV 720p Encode with proper media info.

Also will release a 4K remaster of my regrade in BD50...

Looks nice! I'm curious, is this your first regrade?

You have to use the Insert/Edit Image button to add images to posts here, the [img] tag doesn't work sadly.

Looking forward to checking out the full release. I've just put mine up on myspleen in case you're interested in checking it out as well.

Here's a screencap comparison between your last screencap and the same screencap from my regrade. I always find different regrades of the same film very fascinating, its almost like watching a totally different film:

The thread on the Bluray over at Blu-Ray.com has some screenshots from the original Vhs posted by someone called vidjunkie(Page 9), Tcm broadcast posted by someone called mymythos(page 8), someone else tinkering with the screenshots in Photoshop called jacksparrow900 (Page 8 and 9) to give an idea of what can be done with the colors as well as someone called DMRI2006 who is willing to offer a laserdisc copy of the original color timing (Page 9).

Someone else has requested this over at fanres as well.

I've checked out the screencaps on fanres and its clear that a hell of a lot of work would have to be put in to try to restore the colours on a shot by shot basis. I'm amazed at how good a job Andrea's color matching scripts did.

This Dracula 79 project requires way too much time investment for it to be of interest to me but I hope that somebody else will be willing to put in the time to do this justice, those more colourful screencaps from the tcm broadcast do look very nice indeed, the blu-ray screencaps look incredibly dull by comparison.

Was wondering kj650 if you could do a regrade on the Dracula 79 Bluray bringing  back the colors of the original version before the Director decided to mess around with them and almost make them monochrome. I requested it over on another forum but didn't get a reply. Would think it would be a good project for your amazing skills.

I've had a look at the blu-ray screencaps for Dracula 79 on blu-ray.com and I believe it's too far gone, there is basically no colour to speak of in that transfer, no way to bring back the original colours using that transfer IMHO, you'd need access to the footage before it was graded.

There was someone on the forum there that said if you pump up the colors and change a few other things it basically can be brought back, I believe they included some screenshots of this in practice and compared them to the old vhs copy and it looked pretty spot on. Maybe you could have a look with your amazing skills and tools at your disposal.

I've had a look at the comparisons of this film on caps-a-holic and the blu-ray looks the same as the DVD in terms of colour. Can you point me to some screencaps showing how you feel this film is meant to look colourwise? It would give me a better idea of whether there is anything I can do in this case.

I love what you did with both Alien & Aliens. I actually ended up making an edit of your Aliens regrade by cutting out the colonists scene and also the awful bit where Hudson talks about being' 'the ultimate badass'. Left all the other extra bits in the gonna watch it through at some point soon and see how ift works...

Thanks! I imagine everybody has their own preferences for what should stay and what should go in Aliens. There's probably no point doing a cut that just removes the Colony scene and the bit with Newt's family then.

One question, kk650. I am in the process of downloading the parts for your 50-gig Phantom Menace regrained but it appears it may be too large to fit onto a BD-50 disk. Do you know if this will fit on one?

No sadly it won't, my only concern was maxing out the bitrate with the 50gb release, not that it fit on a bd-50.

 Careful now.

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to imply.

kk650 doesn't like it when you refer to a release as 'definitive' - if you're referring to someone else's work, at least.

No reason for you to know about all that though, sorry for confusing you.

Its called showing respect for the hard work of others Jonno. If somebody called any of my work 'the definitive version' of a film I would be the first to ask them not to do that because I feel it is disrespectful to other releasers. I am satisfied with the quality of my releases without having to belittle other releases by considering mine 'the definitive version' of a film.

If you want to post about my releases in this thread, you are welcome to. If you insist on posting off topic and dredging up old disagreements not relevant to these releases in order to start arguments, do us all a favour and move along.

Hey kk650 thanks for the uploads on spleen, i wish you had done the theatrical cut of Aliens, as i think the added colonist and newt's family scene don't add anything to the film.

I've been planning to create a regraded theatrical cut of Aliens for a while now, just for the sake of completeness really. You've given me a reason to finally go ahead and get that done :)

I love the scene where ripley asks about what happened to her daughter, I think it adds a extra dimension to her relationship with newt. The sentry gun bit is also great. I can see why you don't like the added colony scene and newt's family scene because it takes away from the suspense of finding out what happened to the colony.

Is anybody interested in a cut with the the added colony scene and newt's family scene is removed to maintain suspense about the fate of the colony but with all the other added scenes from the Director's Cut kept in?
