Williarob,

Don’t sweat it brother, there is a high probability this is guy is trolling given that a) His join date is literally within the last 16 hours or so, and b) his first post just happens to be the equivalent of poking a bear with a stick.

Many of us understand the hard work you and the other OT folks are doing. I myself am working on colorizing a deleted scene and it is literally a frame by frame effort.

Folks, LIFE HAPPENS. Leave the worker bees alone. If you are in desperate need of The Empire Strikes Back, there are SEVERAL OPTIONS available.

My apologies if this rubs anyone the wrong way.

Very Respectfully,
Erich

Gee, that’s real original, calling someone a troll.
Well, it seems this place also is as toxic as reddit…

Williarob, I think you’re assuming some things.

  • I’m not unhappy with the way things are going. I am not biased towards the progress of the project
  • Yes, I asked for a period of time to complete. You can answer that as you like. Again, I’m not biased
  • Today is the first time I recall visiting originaltrilogy.com. Last time I visited starwarsforums.com was years ago. I never follow the comments to the project
  • I understand this is something not done professionally, as in to make money with
  • I’m not complaining with the progress of the project. Again, I’m not biased
  • If people repeatedly ask for it, again, you’re updating the progress to a forum. Such place is there for people to comment. And people who haven’t followed a forum’s threat from the start aren’t gonna read it all, just so they can catch up with everything that’s been commented
  • I understand that restoring from raw material takes time. Yes, I understand that combined with using spare time it takes a long time. Also, my question was not about if it’s gonna take a long time

Also, I think you’re confusing me with people who came to you with ‘you take too long! I wanna watch now! You’ve already done two movies, and now you take long for the third! Move it up already!’

To clear things up better, I only asked, because I’m wondering. I just come to this website, and ask a question. Like, I know it’s been years since the last two movies were completed (I’m not complaining about 4k80), and I was wondering about the current status of progress. I don’t mind if it means that it’s gonna take years. I was just wondering.
Look, I think it’s best for the project not to redirect people to a forum, because those looking for a heads up, and comment a question, are just gonna be in your way.

Status is updated here whenever there is news to report:

https://www.thestarwarstrilogy.com/project-4k80/

It is still being actively worked on (as was actually explained in the post you quoted), if you check the last updated date, the status wheels were updated yesterday.

It’s done when it’s done, and frankly everytime somebody asks me “When’s it going to be done?” - which is no different to asking “how long is a piece of string?” because nobody can know the answer to that question - you only make it take longer - I could have cleaned another 24 frames of 4K80 in the time it took to answer this stupid question. Again.

You know that you’re posting/updating 4k80 to two forums? If you do not want ‘stupid questions’, then do not post/update to a forum. Post/update some way that doesn’t allow people to discuss/comment/ask questions.
Also, if you do not want people to ask ‘stupid questions’, then how about telling people not to ask for a completion date, or any questions on period of time to complete?
(I really do not understand why you post about your Star Wars projects to a forum, instead of something like a blog.)
(Also, I don’t see a point in saying ‘it’s done when it’s done’. Like, it just keeps things as vague as without saying such. If the case is that there’s no idea on period of time, weeks, months, years, it doesn’t make that clear by saying ‘it’s done when it’s done’.)

There are several reasons why 4K80 is taking so much longer than the others:

  1. There’s only 1 person working on it right now
  2. Most of the prints are in pretty rough shape, compared to those we have for Star Wars and Jedi
  3. We keep getting more prints of Empire to play with and we want to use the best parts from each:

Currently we have the 16mm dupe, a 1980 Fuji print, a 1980 German print, 1 reel from a British 1980 print and a complete '97 Special Edition print, as well as the older scans we made for the Grindhouse. That’s a lot of film sort through, color correct and clean up. We also bought an Italian print of Empire back in June which still hasn’t arrived from Rome, and we know of at least 2 other prints we may be able to scan.

But 4K80 isn’t the only thing we’ve been working on. We also scanned some more prints of Star Wars this year: an Italian print, a low contrast Eastman print with good color, a Mono print with terrible Vinegar Syndrome but hopefully we can salvage the sound, 3 x 16mm prints, Another 97 Special Edition print.

And that’s not all, we scanned another original '83 print of Jedi (which turned out to be pretty beaten up) and we should be getting a '97 SE print of Jedi soon too. We scanned a Czech print of Phantom Menace and a Spanish print of Revenge of the Sith.

We also scanned two more 16mm prints of The Making of Star Wars, 1 more SPFX this week and 1 more From Star Wars to Jedi a few months ago.

Right now, I have over 200 TB of raw film scans backed up to LTO tape, most of which is Star Wars related.

If all of this is news to you, then you should probably head over to forums.thestarwarstrilogy.com to learn more and watch some previews. You can use this code to register: OT-21wceCpKFdYgD1FgHEkjSw4K77-80

What is the current status on 4k80?
Is it still in progress?
If so, what time will it take to complete?
And when it is complete, can somebody share a torrent file for me to download?
(I already asked this on forums.thestarwarstrilogy.com, only the users seem as toxic as on reddit.com)
