I registered here 11 years ago, today. I have mostly lurked over the years. Though it was frequent lurking. I always enjoyed catching up on threads every so often and watching passionate progress. I watched both with interest and as entertainment. It is amazing how discussions have changed over the years. What were dreams of seeing the OT again have evolved into discussions on which viewing of the OT is best. How blessed we are now! Thank you to all who have actively contributed to these efforts.

Community Focus Thread 1: The Phantom Menace
Time

As an old school OT SW fan, TPM was my least favorite SW film…well, at least until the final two. Late to the party, I recently started checking out fan edits. I was specifically interested to see how folks have improved on TPM, as it includes some good stuff. Particularly the content that served as the foundation for the animated series and later cannon. Just gimme less Jar Jar, midichlorians, Annie, etc.

I haven’t gotten far with the fan edits, but the Anti-Cheese edition made a cool change with Neimoidians. It redubbed them with an alien language, gave them a more menacing tone and added subtitles. The redub with subtitles felt very cantina, which was a nice way give the ANH vibe early on in TPM. It felt more interesting than other edits, which simply try to improve those scenes by cutting down the existing dialog.

Info Wanted: Plex Agent for Preservations? (or how to organize metadata)
Time

I am not sure if this is what you are going for, but… I name the files as:

“Star Wars Episode x - title (year) [preservation name & version].mkv”

and put them in my Plex movie folder. Then, update the Plex library and it will show multiple versions available (assuming you have multiple versions of an episode). Use the option to split it into individual parts. Use Info to determine which of the entries is a particular preservation. Manually scrape or edit the metadata, as necessary.

In my case I just customize the titles, names, poster and background art.
