1997 SE - Five Star Collection - any interest in a Preservation? (Released)
Time

I have the release of them that came out back in the early/mid 2000's, like 03 or 04.

They are pretty nice, but the color timing is kind of off a bit. Flesh tones are kinda "orangish" at times, and the color saturation is slightly pale.

Brightness is a little too high as well.

A few tweaks on the color, hue and brightness on the TV, and they're great!

The only other issue is that they're not anamorphic.

Does anyone know of any anamorphic versions of the 97 SE's out there?

Yes i would very much like a copy of Empire and Jedi which has the real ending with Sebastion Shaw and not Hayden Christensen thanks to Adywan Han shoots first again are they in 5.1 surround sound?

Dark_Jedi's upcoming SE'97 set will have the laserdisc 5.1 audio for all three films.

" I do not deny that my heart has greatly desired this."

I would love to be made known when these are completed and where to acquire them.  : )

ABC, you or anyone else for that matter, wouldn't happen to have a decent sized picture of this. I just want the image on the lunchbox, preferably in colour.

Though if not, I could probably work with it. It is the image I originally wanted for the back of my Star Wars ANH cover.

P.S. if it is a picture of the lunchbox, that will work too.

Man, I am way late to this thread - but if you still want this in high-res, I may still have it on my work machine.  I took my lunchbox to work and scanned it a few years ago for someone here.  I forgot what they needed it for, or who it was, for that matter.

Anyway, if I can remember tomorrow, I'll look for the scans.

I have the actual original picture the lunchbox picture was pulled from. It's on my home PC though, so PM me your email addy, and I'll send it to you when I get home.

Millennium Falcon Cockpit wallpapers!
Time

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share these little things I made up.

I wanted a "clean plate" view of the Falcon's cockpit, and out of the 3 OT films, I was only able to use the shot in ESB when Han enters the cockpit while still on Hoth, and has to pound the ceiling panel to get the lights to come back on.

I had to remove him from the doorway as he entered, and paste other pieces of the doorway from other parts in the film when they were coming and going from the cockpit.

I got it pretty good, but unfortunately, I was stuck with the slightly different angles of  from the different cockpit shots and had to resize and tweak the image areas as best I could, but not bad considering I wasn't using any high end photo software.

I did one of the access door open, and another closed.

You'll notice the controls differ in color and placement due to the differences in the shots they were taken from, but no biggie.

I hope someone enjoys them!  : )

If anyone wants the full size versions, PM me w/your email.

Converting a 4X3 w/s DVD to either 16X9 or 1080p blu-ray?
Time

Chewtobacca said:

He appears to mean a non-anamorphic widescreen DVD.  Converting to 1080p is a waste of time.  For the GOUT, your best bet is to download one of the conversions that have already been done or wait for dark_jedi's new releases.  Search the Star Wars Preservations forum.

To answer your question though, the easiest way to do what you ask is to download the free version of DVD Rebuilder, load in your DVD and choose HC mode for your encoder.  Then go to

Settings --> Options --> AVS Options --> AVS Expert Options --> Convert LB 4:3 to 16:9

Thank you very much!

That is very helpful information.

Converting a 4X3 w/s DVD to either 16X9 or 1080p blu-ray?
Time

Ok guys, I am looking for the simplest most direct, minimal steps involved, method and software that would allow me to take my 5Star '97 SE dvd's, and also the '06 GOUT DVD's and create a 16X9 or 1080p disc out of them.

I have been looking around the forum, and if there's already info for this, sorry about the rehashing, but I can't find anything.

Please help!

Thanks!

Yes, the GOUT's are better in clarity and accuracy than the LD's.

So I am just waiting for a more accessible anamorphic reworking of these GOUT DVD's to come along.

I can't seem to find any though.

But until then, I am happy watching the GOUT's when I want old school original trilogy!  :-)

Idea: My Perfect Original Trilogy DVD Release
Time

No, those are great specs to hope for!

Except we'd have to wait for the final final final final FINAL special edition that'll be coming to BR that George is probably working on, tweaking the OT yet again.

Cleaning up the FX and the sound, yet again.

Hopefully we'll just get ALL lightsabers properly re-rotoscoped this time.

( Millenium Falcon training scene anyone???? )

1997 Special Edition Restoration thoughts...
Time

That does seem all too ridiculous.

But my other question on THAT would be, in order for him to edit and add in new FX to old scenes, ( ex. Han/Greedo scene) he would have had to scan that footage into a computer to manipulate it as he did.

So at SOME point, even if he did take physical prints of the doctored scenes and splice them physically right into the restored negative, the original print negatives existed in the digital realm before being SE'inized.

Right?

Yeah, anyway.

I seriously doubt he'd go and do ALL that DIGITAL work, and make PHYSICAL prints of it, and splice it into an OLD print, hoping only then he can get it to match up, and THEN re-dump it all into a computer for making prints later.

They have to exist.

He's holding out on us because he's a senile flannel wearing blowfish.

Ok,
So it feels like it's been in front of me the whole time, but Lucas has said that a high quality print of the original films before the SE's doesn't exist to be able to release the OT in a high quality format.
But surely when he took the original prints he had used to be restored for the SE's, they were committed to digital files in a computer to be able to do all the SE's tweaks and fixes.
So it stands to reason that there DOES exist a high definition cleaned up digital backup of all three OT films.
Or did he delete them as he was tweaking them?

2006 OUT DVD to Definitive Collection LD comparison question?

Perhaps it is just because you are so used to seeing the crystal clear, clean and bubbly, overly bright, wet & soapy 2004 versions?

If anything the DVDs are too dark and high contrast with botched colors, they are no way "overly bright". The restoration is actually great aside from the crushed blacks and whites and the color correction. The GOUT DVDs on the other hand, are grainer than any LD preservation...maybe it's just because they are sharper, maybe not. There is certainly some dupe grain on them.

I agree.  The GOUT DVD's are grainer than the lasers.  That I think is because the lasers are so soft, the grain isn't as noticeable.  When you get to DVD with more resolution and a sharper image, the grain is more apparent.

I also agree that the "special edition" dvd's are no good.  Way to dark, messed up color, switched surround channels on  A New Hope, bad sound overall on A New Hope, etc,  just overall a mess.  I took the GOUT DVD's and used the avisynth script that G-Force created and I love the results.  The image quality far surpasses the lasers, and I use a Pioneer HLD-X9 player.  Sound quality on the lasers is still far superior to the DVD's though.

So what is the process involved in using the avisynth script?
